A Time of War Companion
« on: 28 May 2011, 00:12:26 »
So what's the scuttlebutt on A Time of War Companion?  A friend at my FLGS mentioned it to me.

Well, the only things I have noticed is that:
A) There was a poll about what kind of AToW products people wanted to see sometime last year.
B) Herb mentioned this product on battlechat.

hunt bandits and support corrupt rulers and to reinforce the evils of the Inner Sphere that drove our ancestors from it so long ago."

Could this be related to Herb's answer to my question here?

What would this 'companion' be exactly? Would it include pregenerated npcs and mechs? A small startup story? Something else?

Yes.

And judging from the creature sheets found in Handbook Liao and MPS, there is likely to be expanded rules for animals, as well as a potential creature-creation system.

If we're lucky, the Manei Domini rules might be revised therein, or they might be ported to the next and final Jihad book.

the "expanded architypes"  could be as simple as for example:  adding some of the dead clans/and or unlisted modules that got left out of atow but some people have been asking for.
or it could be some additional precreated charactors example:
clan mechwarrior
clan pilot
washed up mechwarrior
grizzled tech
solaris mechwarrior
lostech prospector
dropship captain
young noble
etc

those are all sample chars that were made in the past

expanded weapons could include, additional generic, and or specific weapons like the one shot cc gauss pistol etc.

more gear could include more "non generic equipment"
like the sldf neural helmet with its +1 bonus to piloting skill checks err -1 bonus to target # in this version

now what I personally would like to see is some blurbs on specific weapons similar to the

"Mandrake holdout gauss pistol
developed for laio's Maskirovka, the mandrake gauss pistol is an easilly concealed single-shot gauss pistol.
Covert agents especially prize the Mandrake for its carbon-ceramic casing, which prevents standard metal detectors from detecting the weapon (though the ammunition must be carried seperately and disguised). Additionally, the Mandrake cannot be detected by chemical or spectriscopic analysis because it uses a stored charge rather than chemical propellants. Concequently, Maskirovka operatives can carry their Mandrakes through any spaceport in the inner sphere without detection. Once fired, the weapon cannot be recharged or rearmed and is usually disgarded.
Aparantly both the miio and loki are attempting to duplicate the mandrake, but neither has been able to produce a working facsimile. Rumor has it that the NAIS is offering a reward for a functioning Laio Mandrake.

quoted from LOSTECH book 1722 pg 31, and 32

The other are in TROs & RS
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights errant, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

I'd like to see it include some support for creating Dark Age-era characters.
