Stone Rhino Gauss Rifles
« on: 25 August 2011, 13:55:38 »
I'm a little confused. The legendary Stone Rhino (Behemoth), is armed with 2 Large Pulse Lasers, 2 Gauss Rifles, and 1 Small Pulse Laser. Correct? However, in the pictures of this mech, there's only one large barrel above the cockpit instead of two. Can someone please explain to me why there aren't two above the cockpit to fit the description of the mech instead of one?

Because back in the day FASA was pretty bad about making a unit's loadout match it's art. The Behemoth is one of the best examples. Likewise, where are any of the weapons on the Phoenix Hawk IIC, Shadow Hawk IIC, or Griffin IIC?
I have spoken.

the large gun barrel is a SMALL PULSE LASER

it is there simply to annouce that the Behemoth HAS A SMALL PULSE LASER!

the the Gauss Rifles are hidden behind the circular pads in the torso.

BTW I am trying to create a Meme on the leve of THOMAS HOGARTH!!!

Well then they need to hire new artists!

they did.  http://www.sarna.net/wiki/File:3055U_Stone_Rhino.jpg  see TWO gauss rifles, and no SMALL PULSE LASERS!

Yeah but that was on the Stone Rhino 2. I'm talking about the original configuration.

maybe but it solves the problem of lack of two distinct gauss rifle barrels.  all you need to do is replace the Bevy of Heavy lasers with a large pulse, and then a chin mounted SMALL... well you get it

If you reread what JPArbiter wrote, the message is actually correct, despite the fun. The miniature of the original Behemoth helps a lot - the side rear torsos feature large gauss breeches.

Fluff describes it as a single barrel tube with 2 barrels inside.  Theoretically, there should be a divider in the middle, but the art does not match.

I really want some art for the Stone Rhino 3

Fluff is also (generally) based on an insistence that big weapons be highly visible.  Heavily protected interior rifles, and an intimidating SMALL PULSE LASER LOLOL on the dorsal mount make more sense, given the Behemoth's intention to be resilient enough to not afraid of several anyones.

Well it COULD be what the fluff said. About how the gauss rifles were put into one barrel. A good thing about that is increased accuracy of it. However, I'm not sure that's the case here.

Fluff I haven't read outside of sarna.net; it's not in either printing of TRO 3055.

Thats what I don't like about TROs sometimes. They don't give enough information. And yeah, sarna and solaris7 are my main and only sources of my information.

If its not in the TRO or some other print material it isn't canon....Sarnas entry on it is likely wrong.

Well you see, the TROs are where saran gets their information from. They are very strict on whats canon and whats not.

And yet there are mistakes over there. It's a wiki, you can't rely on it being vetted properly.

Sarna is a wiki.  Like any other wiki it can be filled with erroneous information.  Like this nonsense about the gauss barrels.

which is also end user, and thus subject to false information.  if you want canon info, buy the books

I don't have the money. But I LOVE battletech regardless. Here's what we all can agree on. The Stone Rhino has two gauss rifles, two large pulse lasers, and a small pulse lasers. And it also has a 300 rated standard fusion engine.

Which can be problematic; neither source is canon. As I have explained to some of my players in the past, they (Solaris & Sarna) are great resources, but take the info as a point to start from, using them to show you the canon sources (e.g. TRO, Source Book, etc.)
