Design Challenge: Star League Era Heavy Cruiser

Alright guys, time for another design for the AU.

In the decades following the Reunification War, The Federation reviewed the performance of the Star League Expeditionary Force's Combined Naval Task Force's performance. Many valuable findings were developed including the incredible importance of a modern heavy cruiser force.

It was then though that the Federation examined their Cruiser force and remembered that their dominant Cruiser Class was old with the first ship entering service in 2400. They also made the realization that a significant chunk of their Aerospace Force's Medium Tonnage assets were going to be entering block obsolescence overnight. As such, with the the approval of the Skymarshal, a procurement request was put out for a new heavy cruiser class.

The design called for is a Heavy Cruiser of between 800,000 and 870,000 tons that they want to be superior to an Avatar class in capabilities. The intended role is to be the leaders of Frigate and Destroyer groups though since the previous cruiser class made up a significant chunk of the Federation's expeditionary force deployment capabilities, they want a large DropCollar count to make up for that loss of capability.

Well you want an Avatar replacement, so I give you the Korra! 

Weighing in at 850,000 tons she boasts armour beaten only by the Texas battleship, a vessel nearly double her size! Over fourteen hundred tons of the finest Ferro-Carbide armour grace her hull leaving her able to withstand barrages from any enemy force for some time before having to retire to powder her nose. Much like how the Avatar was built to be faster than it's predecessor the Korra increases that speed yet again, able to sustain 2 Gs of acceleration for as long as the crew comfort and fuel supplies allow. The lithium-fusion battery has been retained to allow for fast reactions to any local crisis.

For weapons the Korra relies primarily on Heavy Naval PPCs and Naval Lasers with a quad battery of each in each quarter, although it does also have a broadside of Naval Gauss Rifles for some extreme range shots and White Shark Missiles mounted fore and aft for any running chases. The designers were unsure whether to support the capital weapons with anti-fighter guns or missile defense, in the end anti-missile defense was deemed more important and in any case the ships NL/55s and onboard fighter complement should be more than capable of guarding it from any fighter attacks.

Interesting ideas and I like the design but not quite what I was going for. This was less intended to be an Avatar replacement, more a design being built with the Avatar being the yardstick of a modern heavy cruiser of the early Star League.

I like the ideas though. Especially with the High Speed and Heavy Armor, though I think dropping one for a stronger arsenal may be beneficial.

Not sure what opposition it could be facing that she couldn't either outfight or outrun, but feedback has been taken on board. Based on the fact she is intended as a Frigate or Destroyer leader, and that none of those vessels have L-F batteries at this time it has been removed from the proposal. Also a handful of the White Shark tubes and the Naval Gauss rifles have also been removed, the latter replaced by eight Thirty-class Naval Autocannons on each side, mounted in pairs along each broadside. Also some of the cargo space and fighter complement was forced to be sacrificed.
