A lot of what you can do with the Eagle has already been done with the Transgressor, but that new ‘mercenary’ upgrade intrigues me.  It really does.  Now, I don’t deny that the ERPPC gives the thing a potent combination of range and punch, but it also does... unfortunate things for the heat-balance.  I’d like a bird that can deliver the punch of all three of its main guns into Medium range without worrying about flying out of control, anti-tail-gater weapons would also be useful, and additional armour-protection is rarely a bad thing, so let’s see what we can do....

Code: [Select]
Class/Model/Name:  Eagle EGL-R12
Mass:              75 tons

Equipment:                                                              Mass
Power Plant:  300 Fusion                                                19.00
Thrust:  Safe Thrust: 6
      Maximum Thrust: 9
Structural Integrity: 7                                                   .00
Total Heat Sinks:    16 Double                                           6.00
Fuel:                                                                   10.00
Cockpit & Attitude Thrusters:                                            3.00
Armor Type:  Ferro-aluminum  (250 total armor pts)                      14.00
                           Standard Scale Armor Pts
   Location:                            L / R
   Nose:                                 91
   Left/Right Wings:                  53/53
   Aft:                                  53

Weapons and Equipment      Loc        SRV    MRV    LRV    ERV  Heat    Mass
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 ER Large Laser           Nose         8      8      8     --   12      5.00
1 Medium Laser             Nose         5     --     --     --    3      1.00
1 Medium Laser             Nose         5     --     --     --    3      1.00

TOTALS:                                                    Heat: 48     75.00
Tons Left:                                                                .00

Granted, you lose the ‘ten-point punch’ of the PPC, and a fraction of crit-seeking capability in a Strafe or Strike attack, but you keep your hitting range, and your new ability to engage with all your Medium-range ordnance without broiling in your cockpit is arguably better for your longevity.  Not to mention that if someone starts gnawing on your tail like a hound-dog, you can give him two ERMLs’ worth of rolled-up newspaper.  ;D

It's got the heat sinks for three PPCs and two lasers at medium range for -1 heat, with a full 60-point centerline volley being only +4 if you intensify forward firepower.  Heavy Ferro-Aluminum made for some nice additional armor in the package.

Baby's first ASF, so I don't yet know what I'm doing wrong but I'll find out sooner or later.

The first thing you need to do is move six points of armor from the aft to the nose.  That makes the nose PPC-crit proof (from threshold), and doesn't lower the threshold of the tail...  ^-^

A 7 threshold in the Aft would be nice.

You could go that way, but I think a 10 threshold on the nose is worth more.

At 92 points on the nose, wouldn't that just be a 9 threshold?  Or does it round up?

Point excellently made, and edited thusly.  Future fighters will pay more attention to the rounding.

You typically want to place the big guns in the nose as well, since the nose arc supersets the wing arcs.
