Lords of Ruin verse: Helghan Republic Aerospace units
« on: 29 October 2020, 00:53:43 »
This is a more open place for people involved in the Killzone/Battletech Quest on SV to make and discuss units. It will keep the main thread from being filled with everyone trying to post random designs and it stops people from accusing me of running a cabal with the PM group. There will be a thread for Battlemechs, Battle Armor/Power Armor, and Aerospace units as well. Here is the link to the main quest and all current units that have been made will be posted here over time or when I can go through and find them again.

This one is for everything flying. If you got a jumpship, warship, ASF, or even just a conventional aircraft this is the place to post and discuss. We have a few special rules though.

1. The Helghan Republic has anti-gravity and gravity tech. That means our fighters don't need reaction mass if equipped with an anti-gravity ring.

2. The "warships" of the Helghan Republic are without gravity decks for the same reason and until new technologies are developed vastly underpowered.

3. The current warpdrive is the same mass as the compact K-F drive but is far more tactical in use.

4. Petruiste weapons are BS and overpowered by design.

A summary of the construction rules would help. Like how much tonnage and space do the anti-gravity ring take up?
Is it the same ratio for smaller combat craft like ASF's and VTOL's and larger ones like dropships and warships?

The Ring and warpdrive are one and the same for the FTL ships. The only jumpships we create are normal K-F ones but that requires us to research the K-F fundamentals before we can start making them. All our ships basically come equipped with compact drive weight and transit drives are the same mass based on the size and speed of the ship they are built for.

The anti-gravity system scales in size as the unit gets bigger but not enough to make it weigh extra as it is part of the control systems. The big thing is that they allow for stupid Ace Combat level flying without killing the pilot, the drive allows for no extra fuel needed, and it increases the base speed up by 1 MP over what the engine size should allow.

VTOL isn't a separate thing unless the craft lacks the anti-gravity system as equipped units can just lift straight up.

Dropships only have the grav-ring and no FTL drive so the weight is much lower. Only about 5% or less should be left to represent it. It also allows the fuel to last longer as the dropship would act as if it was of lesser mass.

Aside from that, all other rules would be the same. Some of the Helghan tech and weapons require place holder weapons as they don't exist in BT.

That is for the current level of gravity, anti-gravity, warp drive tech we have available. Once we advance the tech to standard, improved-advanced, and improved-advanced respectively they become lighter/smaller/more efficent.

Here is one of the first new Aero units that eventually got developed by the Helghan Republic Navy. The Picture shows the units without the Grav-ring but with the space open for it. The Daga is a dogfighter at its core the maneuverability and surprising range of it Helghast Lasers means it can kill and fight much better than it has any right to. It also mounts higher levels of armor than normal. The Daga and its larger brother the Serpent have only just recently been made possible with the acquisition of the final techs required to develop the ASF for the Helghan Republic Navy (HRN).

With the conclusion of the Aurigan civil war, Helgan Republic High Command was forced to swallow a bitter pill: They were not ready for a real war. While the Helgan military dominated the battlefield, analysts quickly realized that this was due to facing merely a portion of what many considered a second if not third rate power and doing so with overwhelming numbers. This lead to the launch of a number of programs meant to both enhance the military and improve Heglan's security; one of which was the Next Generation Arsenal program.

The NGA program was made of three research Divisions: Battlemech, Aerospace, and Conventional warfare. While the Titan rendered the Battlemech effort the most famous, the Aerospace division was able to come up with its own success story in the Daga Space superiority fighter.

The Daga was developed by Helgan State Arms with the assistance of a veteran mercenary Pilot by the name of Reuban Hale. under contract with the Helgan empire to escort logistical convoys during the days leading up to the Terracide, Hale was caught up in the event and forced to throw in a with a rebel group during the Empire's failing effort to maintain power in the face of mass rebellion. In one of the final battles of the conflict, he was shot down by a Loyalist ace who had fixated on his bomber.

His public criticism of Helgan's fighter designs drew the interest of the NGA-Aerospace project leaders and saw him recruited out of retirement to assist with developing an Aerospace fighter capable of filling the gap found in Helgan's fighter fleet.

At its core, the Daga is built as a high mobility dogfighter able to maintain absolute control of engagement ranges against slower fighters while still having the armor and weapons to make attacking it suicide for anything faster than it. The comparatively long range offered by the Stahl Arms Pike-12 Large Lasers allows a flight of Daga fighters to pick apart enemy bomber formations with ease from beyond their escorts effective range unless they break off from their charges and attempt to force a dogfight... thereby playing right in a skilled pilot's hands.
