which could just be fluff for the vehicle bay installations and their doorway(s). i'm imagining the VTOL assigned bays being at the top of the ship, and their access doorway being basically the roof opening up.

The top of a Triumph definitely has enough real estate to launch a helo or two per turn, and even a Small Craft I think...

With 5 of those Triumphs fully manned, that would leave 130 for the JumpShip (and ASF/shuttle) end of the business.  I think that's more than enough, and Marines can certainly make up the difference.

A Star Lord has 30 crew, 4 Small Craft Bays (for 20 more personnel), and room for 30 more without modification.  A bog standard Mule has a crew of 20.  Putting two medical teams (of 5 each) aboard each vessel rounds out the 3,000 volunteers perfectly.

thinking on it, i would suggest that the amphibious dropship not be entirely restricted to ocean operation. there is little reason why it couldn't include landing gear for landings on the ground. it just wouldn't use them as its primary. IRL flying boats often include landing gear for using regular airstrips where needed, and having the ability to take off and land at regualr drop ports would make construction and repair easier.
plus aerodyne dropships have VTOL ability, so having the systems to be able to safely park on the ground would be beneficial.
