The original version of this design was created in the distant before times for the old naval archive. Unfortunately, somehow, the original credit was lost? So I'm not sure which one of us made it (I know it wasn't me). If the original creator wishes to make themselves known and provide input, that'd be great.

In the context of the General War AU (additional details coming), the Sunburst would be the Federated Sun's first destroyer class and possibly second WarShip class overall, and was most likely intended to screen the Defender class battlecruiser. By the time of the Malagrotta war, the class would have been replaced in service by the Davion and Davion II, but mothballed ships (maybe twenty in number?) would be reactivated after the war to replace some of the Suns' horrendous losses.

The stats here reflect its 2470 refit, which is both closer to the original Naval archive version and also an upgrade over what I imagine the Sunburst would have looked like as a contemporary of the Defender.

I'm being vague here because I didn't make the original, and while I'm okay with using it for the setting (that is pretty much what the Archive is for, after all), I'd feel weird completely rewriting its history to jibe with the current canon and the AU. I prefer a lighter touch when it comes to other people's writing.

(in addition to record sheets for both this and its pre-refit version, I'm attaching a text file of the original stats and fluff written so long ago)

Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

Isn't there a Naval Blazer? ;D
"Wars result when one side either misjudges its chances or wishes to commit suicide; and not even Masada began as a suicide attempt. In general, both warring parties expect to win. In the event, they are wrong more than half the time."

I'm willing to suspend my disbelief, but I'm not willing to hang it by the neck until it's dead, dead, dead!

If it wasn't you or me, that leaves... like... three other guys.

So maybe?

That's one of mine.

This was meant to be the 2nd FS warship- after the Audacious class corvette.

Feel free to rewrite whatever you need- I assume for the 2470 refit you upgraded the engines- I had originally used the 4/6 weight for 3/5 engines.

Broadly speaking, i think it would still fit as the second FS warship, except this time as an escort for the Defender. Though potentially it could also be the third if the Audacious was also built.

Either way, since the Federated Suns had already determined that Defenders were slow and expensive to build, I imagine they'd want smaller, cheaper warships to bulk up the numbers.

For the engine I just used the 4/6 drive, since canonically primitive jumpships were already using modern drives by 2300. Basically we were all right in assuming that the earliest ships would use heavier transit drives, we just weren't clear on how quickly the inner sphere would make better drives.  ;D

The weapons were based on the idea that weapons tech actually advanced over a period of time- rather then having pretty much everything other then the Naval Gauss rifles available from the get go and warship tech basically stagnating by 2300.  The NAC/20s were a new weapon mounted on the Sunburst, while the NAC/10s were older, reliable guns used as secondary guns.  Given how canon has dealt with warship tech I have no problem if you change the weapons around to be a bit more powerful.
