Alpha Strike cards?
« on: 28 August 2013, 21:38:59 »
Hey all, maybe I'm just missing this somewhere obvious but are there Alpha Strike cards yet?  I have a few of the quickstrike card sets that came out, are those still viable and accurate?

The answer is no and no.  ;D The MUL should be updated very soon so that most (all?) of the units are available for AlphaStrike but they intend to upload them all at once.

Actually, the answers are sorta and sorta.

Alpha Strike cards do exist, but they are currently sold out. The speed at which they sold bodes well for CGL's willingness to make more, I hope.

QS cards are not 100% accurate, but you can manage 'close enough' pretty well by adding special damage back into the base damage. For example, an AS7-D's damage of 2/2/0 plus LRM 1/1/1 and AC 2/2/0 should be a base damage of 5/5/1. You only split off the special damage when using its special rules, as detailed in AS.

any particular reason they aren't sold electronically?  it's weird you can buy the rules but not the cards in an e-version.

I hear a lot of talk of the MUL and I've scanned it once or twice but is there a printable version of those cards on it?

My guess is the plan is for the cards to be available for free on the MUL, though the popularity of the Ad Hoc deck may lead to further production on that end.

Yes. They're QS cards right now, but in the unknown near future they're going to update them to the AS standard. Look up almost any 'mech(such as the Atlas), go to the page of a given variant, and scroll to the bottom of the page. Odds are very high that you'll find a QS card there that you can screencap and print out for your own purposes.

I compared some of the Catalyst cards with the QS cards on MUL. For the same model, they were very similar though the moves were different and the special equipment items were pretty different. I havent read up on the conversion process to know the difference. It will be great when they have the AS cards on MUL, and more packages available for purchase .

Special equipment-wise, you can ignore SRCH, SEAL, ES and SOA on any Battlemechs, as the BM type covers having all of that. If they have separate damage abilities such as LRM and SRM, etc, you add those into your base damage value instead of being separate. (The only time those being separated is important is if you are using special ammunition.)

Thanks for the info!  I have just played one quick free for all intro game with a couple friends. I look forward to trying out more scenarios. I've for years said I was wanting some rules like this and even worked on my own rules using the DA stats. Now I get to see if I truly wanted that , or just wanted to whine about something :)  But I will always love Classic BT, been playing too long not to.

Once all the unit conversions to AS have been calculated and checked they will be posted up to the MUL.

This thread has kind of been the clearing house for information:
