BF to AS card conversion?
« on: 18 September 2013, 19:58:13 »
I've tried to find this in the bulk thread, but it's just to big to easily navigate.

What's the steps that have to be taken to convert existing BF cards/stats to AS?

I'm mostly thinking about the cards at PRI that could be brought over to AS for things like Dropships, but I'm sure there are other ways this could be useful. Honestly, it seems like the kind of thing that would be great as an Alpha Strike sub-forum sticky.

No need to go through the conversion process yourself... The vast majority of the cards are available through the unit descriptions on the Master Unit List:

To get a printable version, click on the card image and you will get a single image of just the card.

well, aside from incorporating the errata which should be made available soon, the difference between BF and AS is....

multiply movement for none-aerospace units by 2".

That's it.  An AS7-D has a MV of 3 in Battleforce and 6" in AS.  Anything with the aerodyne, spheroid, airship, or stationkeeping movement mode keeps their stats unchanged.

What about some of the BF special rules that appear in the format:
(type of weapon) x/x/x
How are those figured into the ranged combat stats, and what if there's more than one such special rule on a given mech's card?

all special weapon values are folded into the main damage value in AS.  Any special weapon abilities listed are taken away from the main damage value when used.  For instance the AS7-D has a 5/5/2 attack and AC 2/2/-.  At medium range it could use 2 points for an AC special ammunition and have 3 points of "normal" damage left.

So one could in theory use a 3rd party unsupported program like Solaris Skunkworks Battleforce section to make the process easier and faster?  The master list is a great help but sometimes its easier to drag and drop

The only problem with SSW is that it calculates damage separately by weapon rather than adding all damage together.  So you can get some rounding errors where even if you add in the weapons listed under the special rules, the damage value of each rangeband can be off by a point.  It doesn't happen often, but it can happen.

Move in hexes x 2 = inches

and

Double check weapon damage rounding

Those are the two things you'll need to keep in mind when using BF stuff for AS.

Can you give me a page ref for this?  This question came up for us...

Alpha Strike, page 78 explains how AC specials and alternate ammo types are handled. It should also help explain how other special damage types such as LRM or SRM are also part of the existing standard damage rating.
