LAM Air-Mech mode... Am I reading this right?
« on: 01 March 2021, 05:29:03 »
So the Phoenix Hawk LAM that has a 30"g move in Air Mech mode is not considered to be jumping and has a defensive modifier of +5 (+4 for move and +1 for WiGE)?

Is this correct?

I thought the Phoenix Hawk LAM's TMM was 2, not 4.  Did I miss a detail in the LAM rules?

AirMechs have a +2 target number to all attacks made by them. (ASCE p177).  They are effectively jumping all the time as far as their attacks.
AirMechs have a +1 to TMM for being in AirMech mode, and a +1 target modifier for being airborne. (ASCE p178)
So a Phoenix Hawk LAM that normally has a +2 TMM, would have a +3 TMM in AirMech mode with a +1 modifier while airborne.  Effectively a +4 (but not a +5).

Oh thank god, they did balance them in AS! I hadn't looked at them in detail since AS:C, where they had no AMM.

I missed the fact that LAMs in AirMech mode are considered airborne units, and I also managed to forget the errata adding the +1 TMM, so my LAMs have been way too easy to hit.

I've also noticed they take motive checks as well. If they are reduced to half movement what is their defensive modifier then? Is it only +3 because half of 10" is 5". Obviously they still have 15" of g movement in AM mode...
