MUL AS cards - questions re: Elementals
« on: 12 September 2022, 15:08:42 »
Greetings. I searched the posts before creating this topic, please forgive me if I overlooked a relevant one.

Consider me among the players who wonder why no cards for Elementals were included with the miniatures in the "Clan Invasion" box.  :flame:  ANYWAY, I am trying to understand some info in the Name of the 'Elemental Battle Armor' for which I searched.

What is meant by "(Sqd#)" in the name, for example "Elemental Battle Armor [Laser](Sqd6)" - to what does the number 6 refer? To what do any of the numbers - 3, 4, 5, 6 - refer?

Since each team of Elementals begins with a starting size of five warriors, I don't think the (Sqd#) refers to the number of warriors in the unit, but maybe I'm wrong. I see that the PV usually changes for the different #.

I'm asking so I can select the appropriate Name for a card to represent the base of Elementals during a game. All help is appreciated, thanks.  :)

It’s the squad size, number of troopers.  Clans usually use five, but it’s possible other squad sizes could be used, even for Elementals.  When the IS steals some for example.

yep. the squad size also governs the transport capacity needed to move the unit. so a squad size 4 unit would be IT4 (infantry transport, 4 tons), a clan squad size 5 unit would need IT5, etc.

generally:
Squad size 4 is used by most of the IS factions
Squad size 5 is used by clan factions
squad size 6 is used by Comstar and the WoB.

though some exceptions exist. (the Marian hegemony for example uses a "contubernium" of 5 BA troopers similar to the clan system. and some individual regiments within a faction might use atypical squad sizes. thus why all the suits have the multiple options. because a comguard unit using captured elemental suits would be in 6 suit units, while a clan force in later periods might well have some captured IS suits in use using 5 suit units, etc.

(annoyingly, there is a faction that uses 3 suit units, but the MUL does not support them currently. then again, The Society is such a short lived faction)
