Clan VTOL transport options
« on: 04 November 2021, 19:10:00 »
Hi everyone,

I’ve just got my hands on the Kickstarter elemental box. I’ve got a Smoke Jaguar force and I’m trying to figure out ways of deploying stands of elementals into the front line via VTOL transport. We would be playing during the clan invasion timeline.

Elementals have the CAR4 ability, so in a perfect world I’d want the VTOL to have IT8.

After going through the MUL I can’t seem to find anything that makes sense other than the Anhur which has IT7. Unfortunately that only means one stand inside.

I’d be very great full for any suggestions of how to get these guys mobile!

Thanks

Clan Elementals are CAR5, because they come in Points of 5 Elementals each.
Take a note which AS card you're using in MUL, the first one is the IS card, Clan and ComStar cards are lower on the page.

And yes, the Anhur is basically your only VTOL option, at least until the Anhur BA debuts in... well, sometime in the 3070s IIRC.

Do note that the Clans do not normally utilize VTOLs or vehicles for transporting Elementals in combat, in instead they use OmniMechs. For speedy deliver, the Fire Moth (Dasher) is a common choice.

EDIT if you want something fast but are OK with non-VTOL option:

Alright, I’ve just figured out what the 3 cards mean on MUL! That makes a tonne more sense now thank you.

Thanks for the tips on the vehicles as well, very appreciated!

Who needs V-Tols when your mech force is Front Line Omnimechs.

If you want to deploy deep just use Firemoths, Mist Lynxs, & Arctic Cheetahs.

The beautiful thing about Elementals is they don't need vehicles. Particularly in the Clan Invasion era, they hitched a ride.

You'll notice the "MEC" ability on the Elementals? Means one unit of them can "ride for free" on any unit with OMNI - eg. pretty much all the KS clan minis. There's even a formation - the Nova - which is 5 Omnis and 5 points of Elementals. I just took ASCE downstairs for tomorrow's game, or I could quote the page. There are rules for mounting, riding, and dismounting from Omnis.

And yes, particularly for Clan Invasion era, your Smoke Jaguar vehicle choices are limited. Clan Hell's Horses have more vehicle options, but why would a proud Jaguar deign to look at Hell's Little Ponies kit ?  >:D

Do note that the Clans do not normally utilize VTOLs or vehicles for transporting Elementals in combat, in instead they use OmniMechs. For speedy deliver, the Fire Moth (Dasher) is a common choice.

Actually, unless the Elementals are in a Nova they will have their own transport though for tactical reasons they might ride on Mechs.  Note a star of Mechs & star of BA working together do not function as well as a plain nova.

Other options among the Clans:

Cobra VTOL-  SLDF leftover and the basis for the Anhur
Peregrine (Cargo)-  As a Wolf's Dragoon creation, it is a question of if the design came from the Clans like other designs they developed.
Kestrel-  'Originally a Clan design' . . . have to see what that might turn out to be if we ever go a sheet.  Since the WD version used a ICE; if the Clan used a SFE or even XL, FF armor instead of Std, and Clan weapon weights?  They might be able to haul a point of BA.

There IS one more option for aerial delivery of Elementals...

Check out the Kirghiz Omnifighter's 'C' variant, get past the dizzying firepower, and look at what those ten tons of cargo space are for. ;)

I mean, Kirghizes *are* VTOL-capable, but I assume you're referring to units that use the ground vehicle VTOL rules, as opposed to vertically-landing aeros. :)
