Stresses on Jumpships
« on: 28 January 2021, 23:49:25 »
I was wondering what kinds of stresses act on JumpShips during hyperspace jumps.

I think I can figure out what kind of stresses they might experience in normal space depending on materials, length, and applied forces but I just don't know where (or if there is any information) to look in relation to hyperspace travel.

Thanks

*edit - Tidal stress apparently acts on the JumpShip when entering and leaving the Jump.  By 'Tidal stress', the best I can figure is the pull on the bow and aft to separate in the middle, but please tell me if I'm mistaken.  Thanks.

Not much, since they have a low structural integrity and don't need to make SI checks during jumps.

If the jump goes correctly then there shouldn't be "tidal" forces. A JumpShip should rotate through hyperspace at once without leaving any bits behind. The KF core and KF booms should map the mass that is being taken in the jump.

If you made the jump correctly. Jump failures are usually aborted by the controller before they can mangle the JumpShip, only costing a charge. See p. 87-89 of StratOps for effects.
