Mad Dog Mk III laser turret?
« on: 17 March 2022, 20:55:36 »
So I read about the Mad Dog Mk III, how it's basically a canonization of the MechWarrior 4 design (though for a much later time period). Awesome! However, what leaves me perplexed is that despite such, and despite the official art for the Mk III showing the CT lasers mounted to a visible turret mount, there's no info I can find on it having any sort of Directional Torso Mount. So my question is, why is this? Is it an oversight, perhaps?

The Mk. III ist not the MechWarrior 4 version. That would be the Mk. II. It didn't change in function, just a bit in looks, because the Ghost Bears moved their production lines to the IS.

As for the turret: an actual turret has a 360° radius and can fire in all directions. If you look at the Mk. III, that would be rather difficult. It would shoot at its own hip.

Thank you for the reply! I am aware of the Mk II, but that is not what I am talking about. For the time being, I'll just chalk it up to the sarna.net being extremely inaccurate, until I get another reply.

That is the full extent of the legit answer. The question came up in TRO development for a completely different Mech recently. Basically, if the weapon mount doesn't have a clear 360° range of fire, directional torso mount doesn't necessarily apply.

Just view it as a mount that is particularly good at achieving the usual good angles of fire that BT torso-mounted weapons have.  :)
