"Forenad" Quad Assault Battle Armor
« on: 29 October 2013, 05:27:57 »
Meaning "United" when translated from Swedish into English, the Forenad Quad Assault Battle Armor is Clan Ghost Bear's attempt at providing an assault class battle armor to the mainly Rasalhagian in origin Second-line and Garrison forces of its Touman.

Sporting 450 kgs of Clan grade Reflective armor married to an "Inner Sphere" style Assault class chassis (which basically means that the Clans' self repairing Harjel system has been omitted), the Forenad can withstand a direct hit from a Gauss Rifle as well as recieve only half damage from any energy based weaponry meaning that it can survive a simultaneous blast from a Clan ER PPC and Heavy Large Laser.

Using the lighter Inner Sphere style chassis in conjunction with weapons mounted on Detachable Weapon Packs, the Forenad can carry an Inner Sphere grade Medium Laser, two Clan made AP Gauss Rifles and one Clan made Battle Armor LB-X Autocannon.

Oh come on, that's just cheesy.
Everyone can combine clan armour and an IS chassis. Each to his own, I guess, but it's too munch for my taste.

Ooo! OOOOOOO! That was a bad one!...and I liked it.

Have you seen the latest TROs?  If the Inner Sphere can do it (put Clan grade Armor and Weapons on their chassis) I don't see why the Clans shouldn't take advantage of the same kind of "cheesiness" too.

Yowza -- she's got the weapons loadout of a 40-ton Vulcan battlemech.  Five of those unloading on your flank from an Eldingar, Tyr, or Maxim (C) is a serious threat.  And the thick reflec armor helps offset the loss of survivability from their lack of speed a little.

I'd try a variant that packs as many Clan LRMs on as possible.  IIRC, you can get two LRM-5s on quad with 3/5 movement and 15 points of armor.  Maybe with this approach, you can get up to 15 or 20 LRM tubes per quad.

Impressive -- nice job.

The small weight savings gained in losing Harjel really isn't worth it IMO- but as it's not something that comes up unless you're in the RPG, I guess it's Min/maxing.

Personally, I find the I.S Medium laser more 'cheesy', and a Bear Hunter would be more of an aesthetic fit... but again, in a game that focuses on BattleMechs instead of the individual (like the RPG), I guess Min/maxing plays by a different set of rules.

A full Clan Point can now have the equivalent of 2 LRM 20s, 1 LB 20-X, and 1 "Hyper Assault Gauss 15" at its disposal, in addition to limited ECM capabilities.

Actually, I meant dumping the entire weapons load for as many LRM tubes as will fit.  But you're probably nearly be there with only three slots left for the ECM and DWPs, which can't carry LRMs, anyway.

Yowza, Mk. II.  I think I like this even better than the original (and it does away with the medium laser munchkin accusations).  Serious reach against mechs, tanks, and BA for a slow suit with standard armor.  AP Gauss keeps infantry at bay, and the ECM is a nice touch.

P.S.  You meant LB 10-X, not LB 20-X, I think.

Each BA LB-X is an LB-X 4.

/immature giggle at the 'forenad' imagery

As far as cheese goes, using a less massive frame is quite light. Or rather, using Clan armour on an IS frame. It's 3145 and people are buying Clan XXLs now.

This is a beast... uhh wait, why is the IS Medium Laser 375 kg? I thought it was 500 kg?

Eh, even without cheating with clan armor on IS chassis you can do pretty well. Ditch the ML for a turret holding an APWM and either a LRM2 with 4 rounds or a SRM2 with 4 rounds.
