Kage V Light Battle Armor
« on: 18 August 2020, 21:35:34 »
I wasn't thinking far enough outside the box with the Kage II.
The discussion about combining partial wing and jump booster to get 5 MP got me thinking more.
As long as I'm mixing tech bases, I could use VTOL movement!

The final result of this brain nugget is a total cheese curd. VTOL MP doesn't cost much weight per MP. So that leaves enough space for each trooper to have their own AP Gauss, which is just too good to turn down! I could have gone with 6 MP, but decided to leave it at 5 to add more reconnaissance gear: a Heat Sensor and a Light TAG as a squad support weapon (yes I did need to make it a SSWM to fit it on).
The 6 MP would be really nice though, so possibly there is a cavalry variant of the Kage V that drops the recon gear for more power to the rotors.

Edit: Okay well MegaMekLab lied to me, so, the cavalry variant actually becomes the standard and the recon variant goes to the dustbin of failed prototypes. So I have switched the OP to the cavalry stats.

Yeah, that's a pretty nice "Kage IIC" (well, I refuse to play with it. But that's because I will not accept IS chassis with clan armor). ;)

Thought your slots are way off - the APGR is 2 slots, and the SSWM LTAG is 2 total as well... 10 of 8 slots used. :(

Hmm well it appears MegaMekLab is bugged. It says the AP Gauss only takes one slot, which is wrong.

It also doesn't allocate a slot for the SSWM. And while I do see TRO entries where the SSWM takes up a slot on its own, the Tech Manual is not at all clear that it does. On page 270 it says "each suit in the squad must have enough equipment slots in a single location to mount the entire weapon and it's ammunition." And then on the equipment table on page 347 the slots are listed as "Var**", which just references the construction rules on page 270 again. This is ambiguous to say the least.

Anyway it appears the Cavalry variant is the only legal one. Up, up, and away!

I asked about SSWM a couple of years ago and got "one slot for the mount" as answer. Thought it might have changed since then.
