more reasonable challenge than my last one.
« on: 22 August 2020, 12:23:42 »
I want to know how fast you can make a suit go.  Weight, motive type, whatever, is up to you, just put everything you can in to raw speed.
The core rules for interacting with me:

1.) I am not a moderator, game developer, member of Cryptic staff, relative of any members of cryptic staff, not close friends with anyone involved with the game, not a distributor of product, not an employee, employer, professional reviewer, or member of any powerful conspiracies.  What I think is my own and has no impact on the Battletech franchise in any way, shape, or form.

2) If you don't like something I've said, refer to rule 1.  If you do, god help you poor soul, you're screwed up.

Unfortunately, as challenges go, this one doesn't quite work due to how strict BA construction rules are. And the canonical Buraq is already as fast as possible at 7 move, a rare case of min-maxed canon unit.
It is not possible to improve upon that really. And the Buraq is very good at what it does already, though if one wanted a bit of range, swapping MGs for an AP Gauss rifle would be a simple and boring option.

Highest possible jump is a light or medium with 3 jump and jump booster or partial wing for total of 4 jump, and there are examples of good ones already.

Fastest possible VTOL movement is a PA(L) suit with 7 VTOL movement, making it faster than the Buraq in practice (due to flying over obstacles that would slow the Buraq) but far more useless.
Min-maxing with IS chassis, Clan Basic Stealth armor, using mixed manipulators and a Fire Drake Needler we have a flying infantry unit that dies before it can do damage reliably probably.
I'd rather take the Buraq.

A-ha!

Are you willing to accept cheese?  Long story, but the Tortoise II art got me thinking, and I created wheeled BA.  What JJs and partial wings do to them is something I had to put on hold, I had only gotten to BA trailers before RL forced me to deal with other priorities.

So, want to see what I can come up with?  And what's the date you're looking for?

Oh.  Well.  Ok, then.

So, any suggested weapons?  Any clue about general physical appearance (tall, short, fast, slow?).

Ok, sorry for the wait.  Some caveats;
* Ground movement is naturally faster with wheels, if you're familiar with the Tortoise II, you see it here.
*The design uses Jump Jets and a Jump Booster as, well, rocket boosters.  The concept here is, get close with the standard ground speed, then fire the Jets for a burst of speed to make it to close range of the target.
*Just for giggles, the design uses a partial wing as a REAL wing - how it would look in 'real life' I have no idea, but the idea of a 'Dukes of Hazard' charge and Jump appeals to me.  I suppose it would look something like the new flying car concept under development, a folded wing like a navy fighter aircraft whose wing folds up and out, then folds back in.
*Ideally, this was to mount a ECCM suite or C3 booster, to allow it to carry a detachable weapons platform, to carry one or two HellWasp drones.  Look them up on the forum; they're pretty awesome, and meant as terror weapons against civilians.  I made sure to get permission to use them in a drone project on hold right now.

So, the construction.
1. IS
    750 kg
    IS - 100 kg
    Wheeled
     Space (As Quad) - 7

2. Ground move - 3 free + 5 (20kg/Hex) - 100 kg <---200 kg
    Non-Ground - 3 (Max) - 75 kg  <---275 kg
Special - Partial Wing and Jump Booster - 325 kg  <---600 kg

3. Basic Manipulators - 0 kg

4. Armor - 3 pts, standard armor - 150  <---750 kg

Hope it helps.  Good luck writing, enjoying what you've gotten so far.
