Shrapnel Issue #3 Pistols for TW
« on: 12 June 2022, 07:33:39 »
I had some time this morning, so I decided to knock out the pistols.  Craig absolutely gave us even more interesting options here.  That said, I'm just amazed at the number of pistols chambering rifle caliber rounds (4/4 and heavier).

The Taurians gave us a Desert Eagle analog that WILL injure a character not strong enough to fire it properly (you'll need to pick up Shrapnel #3 for the AToW details, of course... it's only $6!).  The Lemison and AA Gemini were challenges to convert, but I think I've done them right.  I can only imagine the AA Gemini has a foregrip.  The RFW Galahad is one heck of a "lead pipe"... it's melee damage matches a No Dachi!

Like I did for the Sniper Rifles, I added a column for Extended Capacity (XCap) magazines (from the AToW Companion) for those weapons impacted by the Reload Factor.

The Momo is insane with that special ammo, which is insane in and out itself since it somehow make the bullet quieter and do more damage.

It is interesting how many of them are 4 or 5 BD. Might have to see how they fare in ATOW.

Just don't get caught with a Momo unless you're a Death Commando!  8)

Yeah, seems to happen with some of nicer weapons. Bad for others to have or limited deployment.

Well, this is an interesting new look at it. In ATOW, the Ballistic pistol short range value go from from 2 (hold-out) to 8 (Revolver/Harpoon Gun).

The Shrapnel Ballistic pistols go from 3 (hold-out) To 40. That's uh. Interesting.

I don't think I'd give the Dreamel J-4 Derringer an extended-cap magazine.  I'm 90% sure it's modeled after your typical two-barrel derringer...well, a hammerless double-action two-barrel derringer (which do exist!), meaning it's a break-open, rather than having a magazine.  I mean, I guess your "extended-cap" mag could be a speedloader, but that seems like it's stretching the point.

Which reminds me.  I'm still trying to figure out what the picture is between the Dreamel J-4 and the Yănjìngshé.  It doesn't seem to match the descriptions of any of the pistols in the book.

What gets me on a lot of these pistols is they have TW performance comparable to the standard generic auto-rifle.  That's...something.

I think its more of a thought experiment with regards to how the conversion process works rather than because he thinks the Derringer should have an extended clip :)

I think that's the Needler Pistol from Destiny, but I'm not sure if it appeared someplace before that.

Yes and no. Comparable to range alot of them match the Auto-Rifle, but damage is a little bit more diverse. Sure, the Momo with its  Special Ammo and the Gemini firing both barrels is comparable, but the normal Momo is taking a 20% hit in damage compared to the Auto-Rifle and it just gets worse from there.

Then again, the Auto-Rifle is firing a 15 round burst...

I was thinking more Total Warfare performance.  For example:

Auto-Rifle (Generic): 0.52 damage/trooper, 1 base range, 4 kg weight.
AA Gemini (both barrels): 0.56 damage/trooper, 1 base range, 1 kg weight.
Mòmò de Bàoyìng (Special):  0.53 damage/trooper, 1 base range, 1.1 kg weight

Oh yeah, I'm not disagreeing with those two, I'm just being pedantic and saying its not many of them, just two before there's a steep drop off in firepower (and one of those two requires firing both barrels at the same time).

That problem is MUCH worse when you get to Laser Rifles...  :o

More of a ATOW question, but does anyone really think the Whisper's use of subsonic ammo is kind of pointless? That much of a hit for a more -1 Perception check when its already getting -4?

Every +/-1 on a 2d6 scale matters.
