Design challenge: Dead Man's Hand

Okay, so as some of the you may know, I've been writing a series of fan-fictions about a Mercenary lance known as Dead Man's Hand. They have a captured Loki/Hellbringer, an Archer, a Shadow Hawk and a Wolverine II, the three Inner Sphere 'Mechs having been fully refitted with Clan Tech.

However... I've never actually worked out exactly what each is packing, and have only made references to the Archer still having twin LRM racks and the Shadow Hawk an autocannon. My PC is essentially dead (I'm getting a new one, one capable of playing the Harebrained Schemes BattleTech game soon), so I don't have the option of tackling the project myself.

So, if anyone would like to give it a go, and get credit in future stories, now's your chance. Let's see your best Clan Tech refits of the three Mechs.

Here's the ARC-5R (C) Archer with all Clan weapons. It's still twin large laser, but clan pulsers this time and the LRM15s are now clan tech. A DHS and a rear-firing medium pulserr have been added

For some reason the file on Solaris Skunk Works was under weight by two tons, so I tricked it out by adding CASE, two jump jets and extra ton of ammo while removing one heat sink.

With the Wolverine II I switched all of the weapons to Clan while switch the single SRM6 to a pair of Clan Streak SRM4s. I also added a ton of armor.

Just double the LRM racks (80 LRMs) on the Archer — Clantech is half the weight of Spheroid — and add freezers.  Use ferro and/or trade rear lasers for more ammo.  Upgrade the remaining lasers to ER if you want (but not necessary with no minimums on the Clantech LRMs).

Given the model of the Archer he uses is the 5R it has LRM15s originally. I went with a straight switch of weapons and doubled the LRMs.\ and did away with Artemis IV.

Yeah... Artemis just means more expensive ammo to mercs, after all.

I can't help but feel the Shadow Hawk could do a LOT better, though...  I'll have to think on it.  Too close to bed time right now...  :-\

I tried to write a bit about what each of the refits entailed and I tried to focus on keeping the mechs similar to what people expect from them.

I think that the biggest change that I made was deciding that one of the secrets to their success was a C3 network that they don't talk about.

I felt free to modify all of the mechs, except for the Loki which I kept "stock" and just focused on changing the equipment according to the Omnimech rules. I think that the biggest change for the Loki is that I moved one of the PPCs to the torso and moved the SRMs to the arm so that I could give it lower arm and had actuators.

I stuck to IS Endo Steel and thankfully each of the mechs had models that used Endo Steel structure. Otherwise I would have used Prototype ES to reflect the prototype nature of their systems. I kept the Double Heatsinks IS tech since I wasn't going to try and justify swapping to standard Clan fusion engines from IS standard fusion engines.

Joker's Loki is still the eggshell of the group with its paper thin armor.

If you decide that the Archer's CASE II systems are too new for Aung to have grabbed then I'd swap the ER Small Lasers for ER Mediums with the extra ton of space.

I also decided to stick with IS CASE for the three refitted mechs.

I hope these machines have the "Main Character" feel for your stories without having pushed too far into "Plot Armor" feelings range.

I envision that the Wolverine and the Archer are the front line brawlers in the unit. While the Loki and Shadow Hawk hold back and snipe as needed.

Loki "Ace of Spades"

As some wayward wartime orphan Joker relies more on instinct and superhuman aptitude when it comes to piloting and leading her unit. Her custom Loki reflects her personality, she kept the two Clan built ER PPCs and the advanced Clan electronics that support those weapons, she replaced the Streak missile launcher with a pair of simpler SRM launchers the moment she learned what the advanced missiles would cost. The ER Medium lasers were removed to be installed on her lancemate's mechs in their place is a trilogy, in five parts, of ER small lasers. Because her mech has the very impressive Clan built ECM system she decided to add a single piece of Inner Sphere built equipment. A C3 Master computer was installed in her mech's left torso the day the Draconis Combine started selling POD capable equipment. While on Kowloon after a night spent drinking with the Duchess and an unnamed former Falcon warrior several Falcon technicians spent the better part of a week reconfiguring the sensor systems on the Hellbringer. This has given it the Improved Sensors quirk (p 195, SO)

Archer "Ace of Clubs"

The Archer piloted by Jay Aung may have started as a refitted 5R model with its twin ER Large Lasers but the mech that would become known as the "Ace of Clubs" was gradually refitted with Clan spec technology. The LRM-15s were replaced with larger and lighter LRM-20 launchers the square nature of the former Mad Cat launchers have given the mech's torso a more boxy profile. The mech has three tons of missile ammunition stored in bays protected by a prototype CASE II system. The traditional center torso lasers have returned in the form of Clan built ER Small Lasers and a C3 Slave computer had been installed in the mech's head. The cooling system of the mech was enhanced with extra Double Heatsinks and a Combat Computer (p193, SO) was borrowed from a Stalker to finalize the mech's refit.

Wolverine II "Eight of Spades"

The Wolverine of Emilio Scilicorn was slow to develop. The initial SLDF Royal Mech was very well designed. But when it came time to refit the machine Emilio guided by the parts bin on the Ante Up decided to stick with the mech's strengths. The Medium Pulse Laser was swapped out for one of the ER Mediums from Joker's Loki the SRM 6 was swapped with a lighter and more compact Clan model and the heavy and jam prone Autocannon was replaced with a larger and heavier jam prone autocannon. To make up for the mech's rather thin armor the vintage SLFD Ferro Fibrous Armor was replaced with Clan Made Ferro Fibrous armor. Finally a C3 Slave was installed in the mech's Center Torso. Because the Mech's ammunition bin is located in its right torso the mech has the Fast Reload quirk (p. 194 SO) and a Damage Interrupt Circuit (p. 68, IO) was installed in the Mech's cockpit.

Shadow Hawk "Eight of Clubs"

The refit of Bobbie Kelso's Shadow Hawk started with an Endo Steel skeleton sourced from a 5M model. Despite claims that a new frame meant that it was a new mech Kelso insists that this is still the same machine that she started with. Staying true to the original 2H with its hodgepodge selection on weapons the Eight of Clubs has been outfitted with an ER Medium Laser in the place of the original, a LB10X in place of the original a LRM-10 in place of the old LRM 5 and a head mounted SRM 2 was swapped for a lighter model. A C3 Slave was installed in the mech's Center Torso and CASE was installed in both of the mech's side torsos. Finally the mech's armor was replaced with Clan made Ferro-Fibrous Armor giving the mech a slightly refined appearance. Bobbie has spent many hours fiddling with the calibration of the Autocannon's shoulder mount giving it the Accurate Weapon Quirk (p. 193, SO)

After much consideration, I've decided to go with Shrapnel take on Aung's Archer, shadowdancer take on Scilicorns Wolverine and kindalas for Kelso's Shadow Hawk.

Joker's Loki stays primarily configuration because that's how she rolls. And essentially having her running a Clan built Warhammer fits thematically.

After the zellbringen show with the paont I thought that the archer was armed with several SRam racks, either in combination with LRMs or substituting them entirely.

I'd recommend a Probe since Shadowdancer's Wolverine already has an ECM.  Those two perfectly complement one another, after all.
