Hi there. Another of the 40k diaspora here. I haven't been able to pick up the rulebooks just yet. I've mostly been playing around with SSW.
Comments, critiques, and suggestions are welcome.
Based on the unconfirmed reports of a 75 tons Stalker variant, the Fatapult could almost be considered a frankenmech put together from leftover wrecks on Solaris VII. The original -1S7 used by a solaris mechjock would go on to serve as the prototype for a limited production run by Irian Technologies from their facilities on Shiro III. The -2P used a smaller engine and cheaper components that, while reducing the walking speed and jump distance by a quarter, cost only half of what a full reproduction of the -1S7 would entail while retaining the full amount of firepower.
The primary weapons of the Fatapult are a pair of snub-nosed ppc flanking the cockpit that can each melt off over a half ton of armor at a range of 270 meters with surprising accuracy. At longer ranges an octet of lrm5 launchers are each divided into their own pod, making it less likely to cripple the long range firepower in one go and allowing the spoofing of antimissile systems with staggered flights of missiles. Pilots are discouraged from firing all the weapons at once, as the resulting heat spike would greatly tax the 11 double heat sinks built into the chassis.

I'd rather have some MLs for short-range combat, but SNPPCs aren't a terrible choice. :) It's just that you'll probably be wanting to fire the LRMs at range 7-9 anyway, so the SNPPC's massive short range won't be very useful.
However; CASE? Both variants will have a pretty decent chance of surviving an ammo explosion with it.

How vital would you say CASE is? Factoring in the legs are more armored than the side torsos and less likely to get hit unless something starts kicking.

Kicks aren't exactly uncommon, and if you get a crit it's a 1-in-3 chance of ammo going up. I's not super likely, but IME it tends to happen at just the time you don't want it to... :P Also, if you're using floating crits the legs isn't as safe.
I'd spread the ammo out across the side torsos and arms, with CASE on both sides. It's a little more likely to blow up, when it does you'll still have half a mech left that's capable of walking away, rather than a smoking crater. xp

You make a convincing case for CASE. I can fit it in the -1S7 by swapping the light ferro for an XL gyro, and the -2P can drop back down to 4 tons of ammo to make room. 12 rounds of lrm fire may not be quite enough, but that sweet 9 hex short range on the snubs helps.

I prefer to have the Lower Arm Actuators removed and the snubs moved to the arms. If you get someone behind you flip the arms and blast them in the face with the snubbies. Move half the LRM racks into the side torsos for crit padding and retention of firepower if you get an arm blown off.
Both of the last two designs have enough free slots for either light (7) or heavy(21) Ferro armor.

I'm just wondering why the 20 tubes when the mini only has 15 on it.
I think I'd have gone Artemis for LRM15 & if I wanted 20 then I'd still go an Artemis-20 rack for better chance of a full 20 for PSR
I think I'd go Light PPCs too for the big guns in the Side Torso so you can keep to a standard 300SFE engine for both speed & durability.
Then match it with 4 MLs in the CT w/ Compact Gyro if your using full TW/Jihad era options.

While that does seem more optimal, it doesn't match the visual aesthetic I'm trying to go for

True. The -1S7 though would be out of crit slots so the only thing I could even do would be to spend the half ton freed up on the last 3 points of armor. The -2P is supposed to be the production model, along the lines of all the various canon designs that are cheaper even if not wholly optimized. Even if I did go endo steel (which would save slightly more tonnage and only 14 slots), there's not much I'd want to add to the design.

It's not supposed to match anything specific, though the TRO pic for the Catapult II matches a lot better, even if it does have two barrels that go unused with my design.

I went with 8x5 for the weight savings on total number of tubes.

I'm went with snubs + lrms because I liked the idea of combining the former's very long short range and relatively low max range with the latter's annoyingly long minimum range and very long max range. They just seem to compliment each other well. The lrms' range issues is also why I stuck them in the arms with lower actuators, to try to help compensate for the penalties.

How does that compensate exactly?
You loose the Flip Arms ability.
And gain?
A weak punch & some odd looking catapult arms that would stick out w/ an extra hinge like a Warhammer's Arm?
Going back to the LRM racks...... LRM15+Art weighs the same as Quad-5's, has the same damage, 3 less heat, 33% more ammo endurance per ton, can still use specialty ammo, and only gets worse in terms of Damage if you run into heavy ECM/AMS.
IDK, I get the snubbie overlapping range thing but its lacking HS to fire them both so you end up being a slower mech using Snubbies which isn't really where they shine.
I like sticking them on something moving 5/8/5 at least if not faster. Let them dictate range of 9

Hmm, I did not know that about the lrm15a. Think I'm gonna have to go back to the drawing board with that info. Could change to 13 tons of light ferro in order to get another freezer in the engine. Still would only be enough to fire 3 of the 4 weapons at once. Hmm...

Well, I'm stumped trying to get enough cooling to alpha, let along squeezing in 5/8/5.
Swapping to a set of medium pulses and an extra freezer means you can jump and fire all the pulses, jump and fire the missiles, or potentially fire at range 5-6 with both missiles and 3 pulses while only building up heat for movement.
At this point it's more like a knock off Rakshasa, but what can ya do? :-\

I decided to take a stab at it. Kinda min/maxed.... A quartet of LRM-5 racks in each arm with two tons per arm. A total of SIX ERMlasers, a Small X Pulse for anti Infantry work, Full jump, 12.5T of standard plate armor, CASE II in each arm is the ammo goes off, 14 DHS to handle the heat. It's not too bad I think. Thoughts?

I definitely like the CASE II. Personally, I'd drop one of the erMlas for another ton of armor, since you'd be overheating if firing all 6 anyway.

Well, Full ERML strike is 30 heat, with 28 sinks, add to that 2 for run, you'd be 4 over heat. That's acceptable. When designing it, I really wanted 15 DHS, but didn't have the crits available, so I added the SXPL.

Alright, been deliberating on this for several days and this is what I'm going with for the -1S7. 11 freezers allow it to run and fire either both snubs or one snub and both missiles while remaining heat neutral. Ammo and CASE II in the arms so explosions don't go to the sides.

The -2P is still supposed to be the lower-tech mass-production model, so it's good enough with regular CASE and eight LRM5s over the LRM15+a. And, of course, the standard engine and 3/5/3 profile.
