Custom Centurion from The Galtor Campaign
« on: 29 January 2023, 04:15:45 »
Rereading the old Galtor campaign book, and noticed that one of the FS battalion COs is running a jump-capable Centurion that, AFAIA at least doesn't have an RS. So;

Overview:
"Jackrabbit", the modified Centurion used by Leftenant-Colonel Eloyis Finnegan
of the Raman DMM. Senior battalion commander during the Galtor Campaign,
Major-General Baden-Powell's death thrust Finnegan into command; and although
he only outlived his chief by a day and a half, Margrave Sheridan Douglass
credited Finnegan with buying critical time.

Capabilities:
"Jackrabbit" removes the long-range missiles, replacing them with a six-tube
SRM launcher fed by a single ton of ammunition, an additional heat sink, and
four jump jets built into the legs.

Battle History:
"Jackrabbit's" most notable battle was on Galtor. After Baden-Powell's death,
Finnegan took over command. Despite "Jackrabbit" having taken heavy damage due
to an autocannon misfeed early on, once his 'Mech was back on its feet,
Finnegan never stopped, bounding between positions dispensing inspiration and
ammunition to his own and Leftenant-Colonel McNeill's Battalions. It was during
one of those leaps that sho-sa Elazar of the Seventeenth Benjmain - supposedly
declaring, "That officer in the grey Centurion is a host unto himself" -
directed the fire of a company of assault 'Mechs against Finnegan, blowing his
'Mech - and him - apart in midair.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Eloyis Finnegan was a Veteran-rated mechwarrior (Gunnery 3, Piloting 3), with
the Jumping Jack and Weapons Specialist: AC/10 Special Pilot Abilities.

Additional:
Note: Is subject to the following Design Quirks: Improved Targeting (Short);
Non-Standard Parts.

Nice, though I'll say the extra heat sink is wasted.  It should have gone to more armor instead...  ^-^

I'm trying to find anything about this Centurion but there's nothing in the original campaign book except the description from Colonel Finnegan's last battle. "He leapt from position to position" and "during one leap, his Centurion received hits from three different positions."

I think the SRM swap is a fine choice and, while more armor may be nice, the modifications are very simple. I am just curious what reference there may be for this customization.
Thunderbolts and Falconers and Templars, oh my!

Mainly those descriptions. It doesn't read to me as ground movement, and mechanical jump boosters are thirty years from even being experimented with.

Plus, well, any excuse to open up SSW and get to work.  :)
