Something like this Colt?

Its not a bad refit, a little oversinked to my personal taste. I wil ditch the MGs for a Flamer, change to LFF and 13 DHS to add 4 JJs. But as i said, i prefer hot mechs.

My personal preference would be to dump the MGs for SPLs and do some of that as well but I was going for non-optimized being close to the original- FREX, the MLs would preferably be ERMLs which would use the DHS a bit more for the range.

This ..., why RL if you already have MML? As a measure to deceive the adversary by firing the RLs at first and make them believe that it is a primitive 'mech.

What about the Flamers instead of the MGs I coincide with Mekorig, you save ammunition explosions which is already a point in favor

Yeah, SPLs are nice. But i prefer Flamers for the capacity to begin fires. As for the ERML, the range is nice too. The heat is a little trade-off, but as i said, i like hot mechs (also TSM).

Sure, it would be a option- in fact to avoid the things that go boom in crits it might be a better one.  I just wanted to stick as close to the -5S as I felt reasonable.  They might make HPPCs going off the CN9-Ar so I felt replacing the LL for that was right.  The LRMs/SRMs get replaced by a MML.

I always like rockets on the Thunderbolt to give it a "Trojan horse" feel - a single RL/15 in place of the LRM rack frees up a lot of weight for other upgrades, advanced tech or otherwise.

Which is another good idea . . . since the Marians might produce the HPPC and LPPC doing a RL15 in the 'old' missile rack and making the 3 MLs LPPC might not be a bad idea the other way.

This is a quick-and-dirty Trojan Horse version with the aforementioned PPCs, all on one frame.  Too bad most of the secondary weapons had to go.  I could probably make a much better version, but I'm not sure what technology is "Marian" other than rockets and LPPC/HPPC.

Overview
The Thunderbolt, from its inception, has always been a reliable workhorse of heavy formations. Standard design paradigms for Thunderbolt variants focus on combining durability with a wide and flexible array of firepower. An excellent reputation and service record lead to the modernization of the chassis, bringing the primitive BattleMech up to modern standards. Subsequent improvements of the base design would periodically follow, keeping the Thunderbolt at the forefront of every war in the Inner Sphere for centuries on end.

Capabilities
As the Thunderbolt was initially designed for planetary assaults, a strong combination of armor protection and intimidating firepower was paramount. In this, the Thunderbolt did not fail. The weapon array of the standard variant is well equipped to deal with opponents at any range. Additionally, the RCA Instatrac Mark X targeting system is suited to dealing with multiple targets at once without sacrificing accuracy. Finally, the innate ruggedness of the Thunderbolt chassis has always been once of its greatest strengths, vastly reducing the amount of upkeep needed to keep them running.

Deployment
Few BattleMechs are as widely used as the Thunderbolt. Factories scattered throughout the Inner Sphere and Periphery bring large numbers of the design into service every year, with the toughness of the design naturally reducing attrition rates. Every military of note uses the design, and the Thunderbolt is undoubtebly one of the most common heavy BattleMechs to be found in the Sphere. The TDR-5S, as the base variant, was most widespread during the Succession Wars, though recent technological improvements and the manufacturing of new variants have reduced its numbers of late.
