I can see that, at least with replacing the arm lasers with LPPCs.  But that's starting to get in to Fan Design at that point.

Being able to fire multiple Medium Lasers at will is always worth the investment in DHS, bracket firing or no.
Oh I agree, I was just saying that its pretty solid even w/ SHS unlike most mechs.

I hadn't thought of LPPCs but that might be worth going MML5's to compensate for the range loss & keep both long/short range bracket firing.

Considering it has to look like the WTH-1, I think you have to do the LRM10/RL10 split like they did with the -1H's SRM6/RL10 refit.  It frees up the tonnage to give it LPPCs in the arms.

And the new art has clearly delineated between ACs and MLs.

Going off say...the WVR-10R, why can't I replace an energy with a ballistic? as far as getting in better autocannons, I could tinker around with Heavy Ferro, dropping the head LAC, and adding in a laser. I would then make the other two LBXs.

Agreed!

This also makes me think of a Field Refit level that uses Ferro instead of Endo.

You loose the ECM but keep all the C3 Assisted sniping going down range & get a slight armor upgrade.

Because the -9R is the gun port match, the new art has had clear distinctions between energy weapons and ACs.  Energy weapons look different, and the Whitworth's lasers are barely there on the old mini anyway.

I kept the MedLas in the head, as Medium Lasers are a reliable back up weapon for 'Mechs.

Otherwise, Endo-Steel and Light Engine are used to reduce weight, along with a half ton of armor shaved off the arms and legs (it's a fire support 'Mech, while not as proportionally bad as the Rifleman, it also doesn't need to be in close like the Rifleman, either).

This saves the weight needed to add the 4 extra tons of weaponry and the full ton of CASE.  I suppose I could have move the ammo bays in to one torso to keep the 1/2t of armor, but it didn't feel right.

While I like what Sartis did . . . it's designation says Marian Hegemony.

I am not home with a mech designer, what about giving it a XL engine and Hardened Armor while keeping the weapons the same or at best ERML update?  How much more protection does a Whitworth get by doing that sort of armor change?

Yeah, but for a 40t mech that is nearly maxed on armor anyway, it allows it to 'cheat' and get the protection of a heavier design . . . what if the head ML is changed for a ERSL?   How many points of protection is that comparing the WTH-1 vs the theoretical WTH-xH?

160 SFE is pretty light, same engine as the Locust.
6 Tons.
So it goes from 8 Tons of Standard to 11 Tons of Hardened.
And at the same time has XL crit vulnerability.
I think its too small of an engine to get much effect.
Something like the Champion would be a decent option for it I think.
