Overview
Tired of relying on a combination of importing BattleMechs from potentially hostile neighbors, or alternatively scavenging seventy-year-old irratiated battlefields for salvagable 'Mechs, the Niops Association finally took measures in 3150 to begin rebuilding their vaunted Project Workshops to provide military hardware for the Niops Association Militia.
Capabilities
The TDR-1C, like its later descendants, was a solid trooper BattleMech design, with identical firepower to the more famous TDR-5S model, though with poorer heat management.
Deployment
The NAM Procurement Board has yet to downselect a single version of the domestic Thunderbolts, instead ordering a lance of each for evaluation. Insiders suspect that they will not, in fact, do so, and will instead continue to order both mechs, with the -1N variant fulfilling the need for general-purpose trooper, and the -1N2 a heavier shock trooper.
