Overview
The development of the Flash was a cheap idea to experiment with a gun platform.  Dedicating 48% of the Mech's weight to armament.   The 4 LRM5s produced an adequate field test model for the development of the platform.  The weapons could keep Flash at a respectable range and the C3 would call in the support of its larger brethren.

Capabilities
When Flash is within medium range it acts as a spotter for the C3 network. A specific Platoon can call in the 'Dark Sky Surprise'.

Overview
After the development of the Flash the next step was putting a big gun on the arm mount. The first experiments was with the humble AC20, this proved quite viable in surprising foes with the big boom cannon. Eventually the design was upgraded with the LBX20 with 3 tons of ammo mixed 2:1 solid and shotgun. However, the original design name stuck it will always be an Auto Cannon 20 on Legs

Capabilities
When ATOL is within long range it acts as a spotter for the C3 network. It can take advantage of rear armour on larger foes.  If any of the network is closer ATOL makes good on its LBX20.

Following the development of this Platform came POL (PPCs on Legs)

An upgrade to the standard chassis was an additional Heat Sink and they were converted in to doubles.

A few other designs were contemplated and not all of them were properly researched but the result of adhoc field modifications and replacement part limitations.

UCOL

Code: [Select]

1 C3 Slave Unit HD 0 1 1
1 Ultra AC/10 LA 4 20 9 15

Battle Value 1: 887
Battle Value 1 w C3: 976
Battle Value 2: 924
Cost/BV: 7527 C-Bill/BV

UCOL1

Code: [Select]
Weapons & Equipment Loc Heat Ammo Crits Mass
1 C3 Slave Unit HD 0 1 1
1 Ultra AC/5 LA 1 60 8 12
  (Ammo Locations: 2 LA,1 LT)
1 Cargo Storage LT 0 2 2
1 Targeting Computer LA 0 3 3

  TOTALS: 1 14 18

Calculated Factors:
Total Cost: 6`829`013 C-Bills
Battle Value 1: 624
Battle Value 1 w C3: 671
Battle Value 2: 762
Cost/BV: 8962 C-Bill/BV

COL was a scaled down role of CCOL the doctrine was thought that Recon Makes could be linked together in a Lance with a Command mech supporting but keeping up with the Recon team.

Code: [Select]
Weapons & Equipment Loc Heat Ammo Crits Mass
1 Rotary AC/2 LA 1 135 6 11
  (Ammo Locations: 3 LA)
1 C3 Master Computer LT 0 5 5
1 Targeting Computer LA 0 2 2

  TOTALS: 1 13 18

Calculated Factors:
Total Cost: 8`530`013 C-Bills
Battle Value 1: 640
Battle Value 1 w C3: 690
Battle Value 2: 781
Cost/BV: 10922 C-Bill/BV

And that's the whole 'On Legs' family.  The designers never could come up with a catchy name and the Pilots enjoyed calling them by their acronyms.

idea weenie

So it is a 40-ton 7/11 platform, 10 Double Heat Sinks, with 14 tons and 18 crits available.

What are some other options:
Jumper surprise (aka Lasers-On-Legs):
7 Jump Jets - 3.5 tons
1 Large Laser - 5 tons
5 Medium Lasers - 5 tons
1 Small Laser - .5 tons
14 tons & 14 crits, can pop over weird terrain.  Has a Large Laser to keep the enemy semi-honest, and that Large Laser can be upgraded to ERLL to get a few more hexes of range.  If it can get in close to backstab or gut-punch, its five Medium Lasers will do an excellent job.  If it is to be part of a C3 Network, dropping a single Medium Laser is the common method.

Ginsu special:
7 Jump Jets - 3.5 tons
1 Medium Vibroblade - 5 tons
1 Small Vibroblade - 3 tons
1 Small Laser (.5 tons)
2 Medium Lasers - 2 tons
Backstab (or frontstab) with this is literal.  The goal is to get close to an enemy target, and use both swords to inflict as much as 17 pts of damage at a time.  As before, removing 1 Medium Laser is the method used to convert this into being a part of a C3 Network.

Sword & Board:
7 Jump Jets - 3.5 tons
1 Medium Vibroblade - 5 tons
1 Medium Shield - 4 tons
1 Small Laser (.5 tons)
1 Medium Laser - 1 ton
Backstab (or frontstab) with this is literal.  The goal is to get close to an enemy target, and use both swords to inflict as much as 17 pts of damage at a time.  As before, removing 1 Medium Laser is the method used to convert this into being a part of a C3 Network.

Not sure how big these HTH mechs can go on weapons.  But there is a 17-18t weight swap with or without the C3.

Hey gang, thanks for letting us know about the posting mishap. Do you want me to merge the two threads or just nuke the original and let this one carry on?

Cheers!

Done and done.

For future reference, you should always feel free to either PM a mod about relocating a topic or just report the post and, instead of telling us that it broke a rule, just use the explanation field to ask to have it moved. The first version of this thread was on our radar for a couple hours before you guys PM’d me thanks to a report.

And with all that said, now I’m off, on my next mod adventure.
