Advanced 3025 tech?
« on: 06 February 2021, 00:15:33 »
I apologize for asking a question which shows my ignorance of about the last 15 years of timeline progress, but do we have a listing of what "rediscovered" tech could be retroactively available in 3025?  Do we have a thread anywhere that features designs along this vein?

Liam did a bunch of work on this and plenty of the designs have weapons and stuff that was retconned back to the OG era

The short answer is: Blazer Cannons, Artillery Cannons, Recon Cameras, Remote Sensor Dispensers, Rocket Launchers (at least the prototype versions), and thermobaric munitions.  I probably missed a couple, but those are my favorite ones.

Man, I would love a new 2, 3 PDF X-TRO Series about this stuff: just some canon redesigns with blazers and such.  like the succession wars TRO had, but not one-offs, stuff actually fielded.

Vindicators with Blazers?  yes please!  ;D

Hell yes!   >:D

The easiest button is 0.5 ton of MG ammo for a Recon Camera for pretty much every mech mounting MGs (plural, since they all have 1 ton of MG ammo).  Or, you know, a Remote Sensor Dispenser (this probably makes more sense for the Locust).  And don't forget heavier 'mechs!  What would a Victor look like with Blazer instead? Or a BANSHEE!!  >:D

Urbanmech removing its AC/10 for a couple dozen RL/10?  Slightly longer range, higher surge damage, and by the time it runs out of rockets it is likely low on armor too

It loses out on the steady 10-pt hits of the autocannon, can't use any advanced autocannon ammunition, but the option to just spite the opponent with a Big Red Button can be attractive to some people

Try a Thumper Artillery Cannon with Thermobaric munitions... sure, it's in 5 point groups, but it's AOE...  >:D

AND you get 2 tons back!  8)

Or how about scout Mechs with commercial armor?

That works amazing well at the low end.  If you can't stop a PPC anyway, BAR 10 armor isn't doing you that much.  Of course, it does mean weapons with less than 10AP can do more damage than they would otherwise...

Well, I dunno, Daryk.  Should I add a medium shield or a supercharger to my hatchet Banshee...after using commercial armor? :)

Code: [Select]
Banshee BNC-3E

Mass: 95 tons
Chassis: Star League XT
Power Plant: GM 380
Cruising Speed: 32.4 kph
Maximum Speed: 54 kph
Jump Jets: None
     Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor: Starshield
Armament:
     1 Small Laser
     1 PPC
     1 AC/2
Manufacturer: Unknown
     Primary Factory: Unknown
Communication System: Dalban Commline
Targeting & Tracking System: Dalban HiRez-B
Introduction Year: 3145
Tech Rating/Availability: D/X-X-X-E
Cost: 9,440,177 C-bills

Overview
One of the oldest assault 'Mechs still in general usage, the Banshee was created to fill a close-combat role within Terran Hegemony forces. Although initially a powerful design, the steady advance of technology soon relegated the Banshee into militia or training roles. Many would survive the ensuing Succession Wars, offering lackluster but steady service up until the design was brought back to the forefront in 3026. A new Banshee variant, offered by Defiance Industries through their factories on Hesperus II, would completely change the BattleMech and its lasting reputation. The BNC-3S, by reducing the design's engine size, finally allowed the Banshee to mount an array of weaponry well-suited to its size. Nearly all future variants would use this successful adaptation of the model as their base, proving that the Banshee could be viable once more.

Capabilities
Most Succession War-era Banshees share the same oversized engine and light firepower. While still capable, the design often finds itself outperformed by similarly-massed BattleMechs, and as a result tend to be rather unpopular rides. The slower Banshee dynasty, more akin to the Awesome, Atlas, or Stalker, can singlehandedly dismantle entire lances of lighter 'Mechs. With the firepower to fight at all ranges and the heat dissipation to handle most of the weaponry, they were quickly accepted as a premier assault BattleMech.

Deployment
The original Banshee found its way throughout the entire Inner Sphere and Periphery during the Succession Wars. Fielded more by obligation than by choice, the Great Houses finally ceased usage of the BNC-3E after the devastation of the Jihad and the disarmament that followed.

Well... given that it HAS 10-point punches, I'm not convinced it wants a hatchet.  They hit on the full body chart now, while the punches still hit on the punch table (see the cover of TRO 3039).  I'd stick with standard armor, and go for the Supercharger.  THAT will scare the pants off anything it moves towards...  ^-^
