Mercenaries versus Diamond Sharks
The under-strength company known as “Mike’s Manglers” got their start on a desolate system out in the fringes of periphery space listed only as P7X 221. The only reason why House Steiner claimed this former Rim Worlds Republic system was due to the rich mineral deposits found on the only planet’s southern continent.
Other than dealing with the occasional pirate raid, life passed rather uneventfully for the denizens of this cold, marginally-habitable system. The Clan Invasion changed all that. While the residents of P7X 221’s lone mining colony missed out on the first and second wave of Jade Falcons and Steel Vipers, they were soon discovered by a merchant vessel owned by the Diamond Sharks.
Where once isolation had been their saving grace, the corporate security force found themselves in a desperate battle with a Star of Diamond Sharks who were incensed at not being part of the main invasion force. It was during the initial furious battles that the security force’s command structure was decimated. But in their darkest hour, MechWarrior-cadet Michael Brundage in his Chameleon training BattleMech challenged the Diamond Shark Star Captain to a duel. Initially the Star Captain laughed in his face until Brundage responded by using his large laser to shoot an Elemental trooper off the Star Captain’s OmniMech at long range. The battle was short and brutal as the infuriated Star Captain could not kill the Chameleon. Despite his best efforts, the medium ‘Mech would move at the last possible second, spoiling the Clanner’s attacks, while scoring one lucky shot on the Thor OmniMech after another. When the Thor had finally cornered the Chameleon, the lighter ‘Mech’s pilot broadcast a simple “bye bye” over the general comm channels as its large laser fired past the Thor into the fuel tank behind the Clan omni. The explosion signaled the end of the Thor, the Star Captain, and the Diamond Sharks’ invasion of P7X 221.
Special Rules and Objectives:These Optional rules from Tac Ops are in effect:
- Backward Movement (Expanded) [changing levels while walking/driving backwards] (p.22)
- Movement Dice [white=walk, red=run, jade=jump] (p.27)
- Floating Critical (p.77)
- Firing When Down [one-arm prop and fire] (p.85)
- Expanded Flip Arms [torso-twist AND flip arms at the same time] (p.87)
- Rapid Fire AC [light and std AC's can double fire] (p.100)
- Energy Weapons [dialing down lasers] (p.102)
- Rapid Fire Machine Guns [higher rate of fire] (p.102)
- Hot-Load Missiles [no minimum on LRM] (p.102)
Basic Zellbrigen is in effect. The Diamond Sharks will only fire on multiple targets after fired upon by multiple targets. And they will only engage in physical attacks if they have received a physical attack.
Several 'Mechs on the board will have Special Pilot Abilities.
