Bloodnamed Players - A Player Etiquette Question
« on: 06 August 2021, 14:41:47 »
Something I wondered even years back but never really touched on.

Players earning bloodnames/having bloodnamed characters.

I know that there are Bloodname Tournament scenarios (though the most recent I can find any reference to is for the Roshak bloodname in 2019).

But beyond that, is there a generally accepted 'etiquette' to having bloodnamed characters?

I played in several Mechwarrior 4 leagues years ago, most notable NBT-Mercs and NBT-HC - in both as a member of Clan Coyote.  Eventually I fought for, and earned, the Kufahl bloodname.  In fact I've carried the Kufahl name in my Btech/Mechwarrior related screennames ever since.

But, I don't want to use it in a tabletop setting if there's an issue, since it was earned in a computer game, not tabletop.  I was going to put it in my signature, if not even request a name change (I know the chances are very, very slim but figured I'd ask) but again, won't if bloodname useage is taken seriously among the players here.

Or y'all may not care at all, I honestly don't know!  ;D

I speak for everybody: we don't care.

However, if you really did earn it after an online tourney? Well that is one hell of an achievement,  and is worth displaying and telling people about.

Phew.  ;D ;D

Thanks!  Figured it'd be a quick answer one way or the other, but had no idea.

Some groups in some games take that sort of thing very, very seriously...I know I carried the name from one league to another and had to temporarily drop it because it wasn't earned in that league.

Figured better safe than sorry before I tick someone off accidentally!

Ha!  If someone got mad about, I'd laugh.  And you should, too.

It's one of my constant sources of humor about some Wolf fans and their anger over Alaric Ward having the Ward bloodname.

Salute to another NBT-HC player! I miss that league. I played as an allied pilot with Clan Coyote a couple of times so we may have dropped together. As for the question, I think Rebs covered it. It would take a pathologically bloody-minded cave-grog to even raise a grumble, and most of those left when the Dracs took New Syrtis.

A lot of them had devolved into trolls, anyway.  Good riddance.

NBT-HC was great while it lasted! I was happy to help my group of MW4 adapt to tabletop.

Generally, unless there is a specific ritual amongst your gaming group regarding that stuff, take whatever name you want.
