So I had this idea. Take a tank and instead of giving it lots of different weapons give it like...two effective big guns and something to swat infantry. Thus, a Clan Ghost Bear 70 ton MBT mounting an over-under configuration of Gauss Rifle and ER PPC. 3 tons of slugs give the tank some legs in most matches. A Micro Pulse Laser wards off the little guys. All three weapons are tied into a 4-ton Targeting Computer.

While expensive in C-Bills this tank manages to come in at just a hair under 2000BV2, which I think is pretty good for something with dual 15 point hits at a -1 to shooting. 14 tons of Ferro wrap the tank in a fairly protective shell, with it mostly weighted towards the front as normal.

I like it - as long as I´m not the one those guns are pointed at.

Looks like it would pair well with the lighter Axel IICs of both variations well.

Oh I like. I like muy mucho.

70 tons and 4/6 (or 5/8 in the case of the Pixiu) is one of those odd breakpoints before hitting diminishing returns.

Very nice indeed: 2K BV ain’t bad. I’m not personally a fan of the Micro Pulses but I also don’t build vehicles too often so I’m not sure what I would switch it out for if given the chance. Also the fact that they operate run pairs would be pretty nice as well. Also turrets 👍

I'd drop the MiPL for an AMS... A top-end clan tank will probably have BA escort anyway so taking a few less missile hits is likely more useful than maybe shooting up an infantry platoon.

I'm going to suggest you imagine something even MORE awful.

Take a base model Rommel tank, swap the AC/20 and ammo for an Arrow IV system-guided, okay?  now swap the secondary weapons for a TAG, and run four of them in a lance.

and compare it to your 70 tons of Clan goodness.

Just..imagine it.

got that image in your head and you can't get it out?

good, because it's even sicker using Clantech.

for the form-factor-a single tube main gun.  The base concept of running a tag/arrow in pairs like that, is that they can spot for each other.   Tank A lases for Tank B while Tank B is lasing for tank A, (or any combination you might want to use) the point is delivering 'staggering' hits that also brush the accompanying infantry and battlesuits off.

I know what you were getting at, that's why the design HAS a TAG supporting the two Arrow launchers. You could even spot for yourself for range 9 to 15 and just use the non-homing standard ammunition for ranges below 9.
But if you go down that route, I still think it makes sense to double down on the concept.

Point.  This is probably why we don't see canon designs using this sort of layout.  Still, the tonnage of that second Arrow could go into an old-school PPC or a clan-type LPL for dealing direct-fire damage, or into armor, or maybe both (Or into AMS systems, to make sure you can GET to that 9-15 hexes.)
