I love adaptations of existing, canon designs, and the Saladin is in-universe a very common design; replacing that humongous autocannon with an artillery piece makes for a very low-priced support unit.  I can just see a lance of three of these alongside some other bodyguard hover rushing into enemy-held territory for a quick guerrilla-style bombardment.

Been using basically same thing for many, many years.  And they're best used in battery strength with a lance of escort as part of an artillery company.  Two lances of artillery, with a lance that's half hovertank and half large infantry carriers like Maxims.  Arty deploys quickly to spot within range, escort disgorges infantry to set up hasty perimeter to prevent infantry attack, hovertanks move out a bit to intercept incoming vehicles or mechs giving arty time to bug out.

I've considered that Thumper mod before to make fast artillery platforms.

I've used artillery hovercraft for years, but I never thought about putting it on a Saladin. Bravo.
Half the fun of BattleTech is the mental gymnastics required to scientifically rationalize design choices made decades ago entirely based on the Rule of Cool.

The other half is a first-turn AC/2 shot TAC to your gyro that causes your Atlas to fall and smash its own cockpit... wait, I said fun didn't I?

I made a Kanga-Arrow long ago that I have always been very fond of.
Prior to the YellowJacket-Arrow that we got it, was the most mobile Arti platform I could come up with.

Considering how short a range the Arrow IV has compared to artillery guns like the Thumper or Sniper, mounting it on a fast hover platform like a Saladin is a perfect way to bring it into range and avoid counter-battery fire.
