The Marines want an IFV with a twist.

So, a nation with Inner Sphere tech wants for their Marine Corps an IFV with some very particular requirements. Unlike most IS Marine Corps, this one in addition to ship board security and boarding is also tasked with securing landing zones for DropShip Assaults and Planetary Beach Heads. As such, they want a jump capable IFV so that Marine Infantry Units can be instantly mechanized upon hitting the ground in an orbital drop or a hover drop.

The only weight requirement is that it must be able to fit in a light vehicle bay.

Era is Immediate Pre-Clan Invasion (Late 3040s).

sounds like they want a WiGE, most of them are kinda built around that concept although they do require advanced engines which would be very rare in the 3040s

I was aiming more towards something like the Kanga of the old SLDF since that one is more achievable with 3040s tech.

What extra functionality, besides being able to hover in place and go faster, does a jumping hover tank gain over the WiGE which can already clear some basic obstacles that hovercraft cannot?

As you said, it lacks most of the dependency on rare/unavailable technology for the era. Other than that, I don't know due to being unfamiliar with WiGE rules and capabilities.

They quite literally couldn't figure out how they made it work the first time?
To the point so much so that it was no longer rules legal at the tournament level?
Sort of how LAMs disappeared, only, even more-so.

This is for an AU. While the Kanga was LosTech, the discovery of several pristine examples in an SLDF Cache by the Successor State in question lead to them being prime targets for reverse engineering by Military Industry.

Personally I would more rely on Jump Infantry deployed via VTOL.

As on the Kanga: The Key for the Kangas Success was its revolutionary Computer system which  was able to precisly control the Jumpjets. Anyone could put some Jets on nearly any Vehicle. But you have to precisely control the bursts. Since you will also need them to soften the Landing Impact, hence the reason I equipped an Armored Motive system on the Mako. It lessens the possibility of impact damage on said motive system.

StratOps pg 23 on the old printing, not sure where it is in the new one, WiGE's can expend 5MP to stay airborne (I guess Wigging...) or land, additionally any VTOL can do similiarly
