Hatchetman

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries

I think that now there can be no doubts that the new 'Mech really is Hatchetman;)

I don't think that's the issue, the current gameplay doesn't allow for physical combat.

I wouldn't want to run around in a Hatchetman and not be able to do physical combat with the hatchet. MW5 does but not MWO currently anyways.

I think that's why they are showing two separate 'Mechs on each game twitter account and Hatchetman is on the MW5 one. MWO will definitely get the Crusader, MW5 which does have melee will definitely get the Hatchetman. MWO will of course miss out on the Hatchetman but MW5 might also likely get the Crusader too. If PGI stick to no Clans and third DLC is still pre-Invasion then both are fair game and with MWO on lesser development status doing most of the dev on it for the MW5 DLC at the same time make sense.

I used Twitter I just went to the links. I didn't put together that they were for each other's game. Then again that makes sense if they have two platforms they're trying to support. Secretly I wanted to see them add me combat to MWO online. I mean it's not impossible to code, they must have this sort of physics in the original game that MWO line uses.

Maybe I'm weird, but I wonder if this'll actually end up being the Axman. It's not like PGI hasn't made lanky heavies before.

Well we haven't seen the right torso yet as that'd probably tell us the difference between an AC/10 and an AC/20 mount, but the left arm laser looks more like a Medium rather than a Large. Mauler proves cusp of invasion is not impossible, but that was a pre-existing MWO design where Hatchetman being available for more of the in-game timeframe would make more sense than an Axman I feel.

The hatchet has the back edge of an Axeman, whereas the hatchet's back edge on the Hatchetman is more pointy.

I think this is actually going to be an Axeman.

HBS version was a little too high for my tastes and Axman level makes to too prominent and Hunchback like, the new refreshed art of practically arm-pit level seems likely. Guess that left hip is next then hatchet, right torso and head.

This is exciting - I might spring on MW5 on sale after all!  First the punching, and now the axing!

It makes me wonder now if all 'mechs with hands will be able to mount a hatchet or sword... >:D

Forgot with the whole MW5 has melee that its all just normal limbs. Either they opt for original TRO3025 no hatchet and may just give it an exclusive "hatchet" fist or we'll see if actual proper hatchets for other 'Mechs.

One of the reasons why I like both the Hatchetman and Axeman - they look like a xenomorph that chooses to murder people with an axe!

That looks great!  I just installed MW5 hoping to take my first spin tonight.  I'm looking forward to seeing this getting in-game!

Sad to see the unified art style that linked the modern games start to break down after the HBS Invader JumpShip appearing in MW5 showed it wasn't all one-way PGI to HBS but suspect probably harder for 'Mechs or simply PGI didn't feel it clicked with their style enough.

Compare what you can get for 15 bucks in MWO and in MW5:Mercs:
  • In MWO you get "one" (1) stock Vulture (that you probably already own), a few cockpit trinkets and some colours for a skin that is already in the game.
Oh, and you get one extra engine that you can not use in the 'Mech that you have just bought ...  ::)
  • In MW5: Mercs you get a brand new 'Mech (Hatchetman),  new game mechanics (Melee weapons) that you will not find in MWO, new skins, new Hero 'Mechs and new maps.

For me, the choice is pretty obvious ...

I'm curious if if the game works the same way as tabletop.  While I've been able to fire all my arm weapons and do a melee attack (before or afterwards cool down)  will melee weapon self take up the weapons slot.  Sounds like it would.  It be nice to ask.

Me too, but then you would have people complaining that the game is too short and not a lot of replay value.

But be sure to check out Coyote's mission pack for more mission variety. Super great work all around!

I've only done instant game play so far, but its certainly harder.  I go in with 2x assaults, 1 heavy, and Hatchetman on 44 difficulty.  Came back 1/2 assault, 1 heavy.
Scrap yard certainly....interesting place to fight.

I enjoy the new DLC content, at least out of what I've played on Instant Action so far. By objective measures, the Hatchetman, at least on its own, is about as weak as I expected it to be for its weight class; its intended use is not of much utility in MechWarrior gameplay. Couldn't even clear "Takedown" solo with it. Still, I like it, and my friend is very happy it's here. ;D

I'm more happy about some of the changes that came with the DLC, namely the changes to how hand and lower actuator slots work compared to how they did when Legend of the Kestrel Lancers came out. No more missing hands on ’Mechs that definitely have them*; you get a melee attack whether there's a weapon in that slot or not!

* This was a bit of an issue in some cases where some scripted ’Mechs in the campaign would not have their hand/lower actuator attacks until after a save reload because those parts didn't "exist" before. I'm not at all talking about ’Mechs that are lacking them in the game but should have them according to the tabletop; those ’Mechs, which I'm pretty sure is just the King Crab and its variants, still can't melee. At least the AC/20 variants have an excuse; MW5/MWO doesn't split the crits on weapons, so there's literally no room for lower actuators and AC/20s in the arms at the same time, let alone hands.
