I'm happy for the MWO community that there is a new mech, and it is one of the classics.  Enjoy all.  I think I'm probably going to pass as I haven't played much in years, but it is a good addition.
Why not to try it again?  ;)

I wonder after all these years, how many $70 purchases PGI is going to get on this pack.  I would guess not many, but we shall see.
Well, this is a difficult question:

On one hand, those prices are not exactly low. On the other hand, I can imagine that many players are bored with their existing 'Mechs and they could be willing to pay a little extra, just to try something new. After all, the last new MWO 'Mech was Dervish in mid-2019 - almost three years ago.

For some players the price could be worth saving them the waiting - Crusader is going to be available fo C-Bills a week before Christmas.

Also, a player who does not care about badges, cockpit junk or decals can skip the "Special" package - especially if he is sitting on a pile of C-Bills and does not need that C-Bill bonus.

And if you do not expect to brawl with MGs, you can skip "Crael" too. Without those boated MGs, the Hero 'Mech seems pretty similar to the basic CRD-3R.

Patch notes up and we are starting to get ingame images of the model

Here's the Crael where you can see all the machine gun barrels poking out around the now only cosmetic claws.

I suppose it's not exactly surprising that the claws were replaced with MGs. Hopefully, the MW5 version-if and when it gets added-gets working claws.

Hope they introduce this mech to MW5.

I didn't buy the pack, but I killed a few with my Dire Wolf.  It was satisfying  ;D. I'll be sure to get one for cbills at some point!

So, Longbow when?   :D

Its good for PGI that people have been buying the packs.   I do say there too many hero variants out there however.

Probably never

The Longbow has the drawback that all of its variants do more or less the same thing and have surprisingly little variation when broken down into MWO terms. They all have a small number of Missile Hardpoints and a couple of Energy Hardpoints to back those up. Even with other 'Mechs like this, such as the Cataplut or Archer, there's more variance which has in turn lead to them being viable MWO designs.

Not really a problem, they can just use other ballistics (close enough).

The Longbow is realistically fully covered by the Stalker in MWO, outside of a dakka-heavy variant.

People like variety, even if it's superficial.  I would prefer MWO had done better job keeping standard mechs getting over customizable. Their nearly OmniMechs, thus why Stalker seemly can replace the Longbow.

Its why I like MW5's ecosystem better.  its not as  broken or unbalanced, people get spoiled.  I know they have to people already that way.

I won't either, but I was just saying.  Modularity nature of Mech is too much but that's what people with cash wanted.

Either case, I'd like see couple more original designs unless they blew their entire budget to just get more than two made.

What budget? MWO makes about enough money to keep the about five guys working on maintaining it on the payroll, and not much beyond that.

No, that is what Russ Bullock wanted ten years ago.

PGI wanted to play it safe with the Crusader and I can not say that I blame them. The reception of some of their homegrown designs has not been always positive.

Given that the game is still running, I'd say it makes a fair bit more than that.

The game is in a state now where the owners are interested in keeping things running and profiting as much as they can from the existing playerbase. You will know when the profit declines because they will start locking game functions behind paywalls, not just mechs.

EG7 can pull the plug at any moment.
According to their last quarterly report Piranha Games as a business unit turned profitable for them in Q4/2021 and has been such since then; revenue was about 1.5 million USD in Q1/22.

They have bigger problems, mostly divesting themselves entirely of Innova. That also means reducing their portfolio to only ten live games, one of which is MWO.

That's exactly my point, they haven't pulled the plug, and they haven't started any of the overt profit exploitation that's SOP for these companies.

Big picture? Unless PGI wants and is allowed to do MW6, likely MWO kept alive until license expiry. Aat this stage of its lifecycle even if they could get more resources no major changes are likely, maybe another new 'Mech pack once a year being the absolute highlight, again likely not to be an original to tap into existing interest. Paddling around in spaghetti code to tweak things, and cause more unintentional messes like they did matchmaker, but more of the same.

Which makes me wonder what they could paywall harder on beyond a new 'Mech chassis that was never released for MC or C-Bills. Exclusive modes would cause endless problems with population the way it is, not enough art resources to lean more heavily into the cosmetic route and the original 10 year old answer of Repair and Rearm to force premium time and drain people's reserves of MC/C-Bills just to play is not likely to come back...

Omni pods.

That's done as new variants though, and even that has faded in favour of the Platinum Packs which are just C-Bill bonus versions of existing variants.

I do not think we will see MW6 made by PGI. I guess that the best, what we can hope for, would be some expansion pack for MW5:Mercs.

Most likely unless the new owners will see value beyond maintaining what they already have.
It depends on how well their Lords of the Ring thing works out for them.

Perhaps they will recycle their Clan 'Mechs models to offer MechWarrior 5: The Clans.   :)

I'd like that!  Though the only reason I'm really playing MWO at all right now is because of the Clan machines.
