Guess we will find out in an hour or two what "select" 'Mechs have been selected.

Gonna be pretty biased toward the canon-ish heroes, myself, like the MAD-BH2 and CN9-YLW. Assuming they're selected, of course. ;D

And in that order!

Looks to be just about every Hero save for Crael (no surprise there)

My main issue is which one to pick.

WOW! PGI meant what they said, if you bought any Platinum Packs 1 to 4 ever you get 25 bonus redeems no matter if it was today and at release. So that and all up Crusader means I've already reached the 300 Lootbag limit and can unlock everything without a single match.

Or that's a lot of lootbags for even low rent whale players...

It seems to me that the number of LRM-boats is not so high as it used to be during similar challenges.

Ironically, I swapped my Mad Dog Prime back to stock configuration during my grind, and recently refit my CPLT-C1 with Artemis IV LRM-15s, so I’ve been running LRM boats pretty frequently these past weeks. ;D Been playing pretty aggressively with them, too.

That being said, I think my best-scoring games the last few weeks, I was in my Bounty Hunter Timber Wolf at the time…

While the Crusader canonically LRMs, none of the current Platinum 4th wave (event also running along with lootbags) are excessively Lurmy.

Now I'm at the stage of trying to pick a Hero 'Mech reward. The real challenge begins

I picked up a Dire Wolf UV - or what I like to call "Ultra Violent".  I got that because it's the most expensive 'mech in the game MC-wise and unlike the other hero omnis has a unique CT missile hardpoint, so you can run at least 4 SRM-6 with a C head pod and an A side torso.

But lately I've found the power and range of the SRMs very limiting so I'm trying to switch to ATMs or Streaks, though the benefit with ATMs is that they can be dumbfired if needed.  In the head missile pod I put a Narc in there to fire with my LBX so I can shut down ECM.

What are your priorities looking like?

For me, it's canonicity; stuff like MAD-BH2, CN9-YLW, and VND-1SIB tend to grab my attention. Only the last one doesn't actually carry that designation in canon – the actual St. Ives Blue is a modified VND-1R, though it was eventually standardized within the Compact as the VND-1SIC – while MWO's CN9-YLW has some fudging to account for the fact neither melee nor rear-facing weapons exist in this game. ;D

For you, maybe performance is what you're looking for... I heard good things about Mad Cat MK II "Deathstrike" and Dire Wolf "Ultraviolet". Locust "Pirate's Bane" and Piranha "Cipher" are a pretty frequent sight for some reason. If you prefer heavies, maybe check out the above MAD-BH2 or the Hellbringer "Virago".

Otherwise, just pick what speaks to you the most. ;)

What do you do, if there is a good non-canon 'Mech?  :)

Indeed. Although I’ve gotten a bunch of 'Mechs of the Month now I have just four 'Mechs that I really like and play all the time, and three of them are standard variants: ARC-2R Archer, AS7-D Atlas, MAD-4L Marauder II; the fourth is the KTO-GB Kintaro "Golden Boy". Oh well, and on #5 there’s my occasional amok runs in a Marauder IIC or (rarely) Mad Cat Mk II as runner-up.
I don’t feel I need any Hero Mech, and truth be told I have oodles of MC and C-bills in my account and could buy anything I wanted anyways.

MWO is terrible when it comes to finding a chassis’s attributes, let alone comparing them.
I opted for a Stalker "Misery". Let’s see if I can find a config that works for me.

I went with the direwolf UV since its 9000 mc. Never gonna use it but at least if I get the inkling I wont have to pay for it.

Sometimes I buy those too, but they aren't high priority on my BattleMech wishlist. ;D

Like, I actually do want an "Ultraviolet", "Deathstrike", or "Virago" at some point, but am I gonna go out of my way to buy any of those before I can get "St. Ives Blue"? Probably not.

You can do both short- and long-ranged builds. I am sure that you will find one that will work fo you.

Good choice, if you do not mind the low speed of the 'Mech.

I do not see too many Vindicators in the game, so it is nice to know that somebody still likes that 'Mech.

Its not been officially announced and the redeem page still only says 1 to 4, but the new Platinum Wave 5 packs both get you an additional 25 bonus redeems each...

I don't see them often either. As a chassis, I'm kind of ambivalent to it myself, and to the best of my memory, the last time I saw one was the April Fool's Day event, when I was leading a charge to the enemy's Assault base in my "Angry Hazen".

That being said, from a lore perspective, I think the "St. Ives Blue" specifically is really cool, and I've toyed with the idea of rebuilding an "Avenging Angel" to something actually somewhat useful, so I'm considering pioneering them in my games. Like I said on the MWO forums, they probably aren't seeing much use for good reason, but that's nonetheless the one chassis I haven't seen a whole lot of in the whole game, and the one time I did see it was pretty memorable in itself. I want to see it around more often; time to be the change I want to see in the game. ;D
