MATURE CONTENT DESCRIPTION
The developers describe the content like this:

MechWarrior 5 contains Vehicular combat violence.
You are a pilot in a ‘Mech and you shoot Enemy ‘Mechs, Tanks, and Helicopters which explode.
There are destructible buildings throughout the entire game as well as enemy infantry on the ground that the player can step on or shoot.
Some enemy infantry blood is shown.
When the player's ‘Mech is destroyed it topples over and the screen fades to a mission failed menu.
Specific story moments containing Violence (spoilers)
Intro video, the player's father's ‘Mech is destroyed and he is considered dead.
Picture of an injured pilot with blood and bandaged wounds and a picture of a hostage tied to a pole.

It is a shame, but the MechWarrior series doesn’t typically support macOS. I wish it did. I want to play MechWarrior games again.

Two other games that are (as far as PC's go) 'windows only' use Wine/CrossOver to get 'native' macOS support. Probably adds 1-2 months to initial build, signing, testing, etc. to get one set up. After that, it's a build script and would increase their profits by more than enough to cover the costs associated with it.

There is SOME performance drop from it, especially with older Mac hardware, but at least it would open up a new customer base. Could also use the same build and publish to linux and hit the trifecta of PC platforms.

I'm just crossing my fingers that the Steam release incentivizes some better mod support. The newsfeed from Battletech Extended for the Paradox game is a massive necessity that MW5 severely lacked. I do enjoy the core gameplay and I think there's a great game in there, but MW5 feels like it came out in a beta form or something. It really needs a hell of a lot of work to bring the whole package together into a cohesive idea.

Until then I guess I'll just keep putting myself through hell to get MW3 and MW4:Mercs running again.

Depends, some of the existing mods won't make the jump. Navid A1 has indicated he is done with Reloaded so unless he changes his mind it won't work with the Stream version or even Epic with DLC.

I think Kuze is hoping it'll attract enough new fans and new modders or bring back the interest from old. Though I feel like it'll be MWO's steam launch all over again - far too little too late to really attract a significant increase in players since the game has been out so long.

What's more depressing is they are using Unreal to power it that also supports Linux and macOS yet aren't taking advantage of it. A few weeks extra work to open up 2 more platforms.

I love the trailer!!
Can`t wait to play the game. I liked the old MechWarrior games, but the last one was released long ago.
For me as a fan of Mechs, its great that there is a new single player game cooming soon.  :D

GoG was promised by PGI alongside the Stream release before EGS entered the picture.

Seems to be. All three versions seem to have Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC separate item to buy rather than integrated.

I did enjoy it tho. Just frustrating at times



I got in a few hours this AM, one cool thing is when you blow up the helicopters if their debris hits you on the way down you take damage.

 I'll be honest and say I knew what I was getting Into. Game game is obviously more fun if you play it with others, graphics look like mwo and mw3 had a baby.
 But!! I was pleasantly surprised to see the career started in 3035,since me and restless decided to go frr,that means Ronin wars!!!!
 Edit: I'll also admit I laughed pretty hard when I took a Vtol out with a gauss.

 If you're fine with A.I. teammates you'll be fine? The main draw of the game for me was co-op so naturally that's gonna make me like it more.

well I just installed the update and man the lay out changes and the content looks nicer ( not been able to play yet ) sadly I had to redo the config of my mechs which is odd. but that ok..  and unless I wrong I actually got the tech manual too for free lol. I not inspected all the files so far but I might be happier  lol...  in long run ( if i can keep getting free time to play )

Yeah hearing "Well it really gets good if you play with friends" about a game is the kiss of death for me. I don't have any friends who play games and if I want to play a game I want to be able to just play one when I feel like it and have fun, not be dependent on someone else happening to feel like playing at the same time. Or, God forbid, trying to schedule a time to play.

My plan was to pick this up once the DLC was out, find mods to fix/improve it as much as possible, and play through it with my HOTAS for nostalgia's sake and some extra challenge but from what I'm reading the joystick support is horrendous. Guess PGI can go without my money a while longer!

When you do finally pick it up give TableTopRulez AI MOD a try. Good fix for the broken AI.

Also a big fan of Merctech. Waiting for both of these to be updated before I play again.  The above uses Merctech's mech roles, which can be changed during refit, to define their behavior.

Might have to wait a bit. Mods got broken by free update for all platforms, so much so I had to uninstall/reinstall to even get the game and DLC to function because mods had made too many changes, though some were able to delete mod folder reverify and play. PGI is trying to assist mod makers to get their wares updated but that's not a day one thing.

the AI that i've only heard bad things about?
It's one of the bigger ones for me.
Case in point, I had a defense contract.
I was supposed to keep some buildings safe.
My AI lancemates go running around, slamming and destroying the buildings to position themselves.
I weep openly at the health bar of the objective take a dive before the enemy even shows.
Stone wasn't cryo frozen. He just got stuck in a freezer Hans Moleman style and we felt bad about it. So we made up this lie.
