Well... Not entirely since the Clan Buster Knight has hardpoints that even the MWO models don't have and it's a bit outside of MW5's timeline.

But I will tease that there is one particular timeline appropriate IS Black Knight Hero that famously has a Melee weapon...

So Black Knight Partisan version closer to Ian McKinnon's axe wielding custom it seems.

Only issue canon wise is that mech showed during the Clan Invasion, which they said they won't be going to with MW5.

Davion Mary Sues can never be evil in BattleTech - and if they are, it's just because they were corrupted by Steiner.     For example in MechWarrior 4.

I'm hoping that the next DLC will allow anything with hands to carry an axe or sword.

I'd love a Beemer with an axe in place of a PPC...  Or a Beemer with a PPC in one hand and an axe in the other hand

I just got a new-to-me GTX 1070 installed and now I can play MW5!  I just finished the second mission and I'm just enjoying punching enemy buildings with my Javelin!  That's how I finished the mobile ECM system in the second mission

In my new playthrough though as the tech scaling has been reset its almost like what a unit would have felt following the fall of the Star League every weapon or Heat sink lost is replaced with inferior equipment slowly degrading your capabilities

On Reddit some mentioned some disappointment about there not being an Axman or a Clans expansion.  I think PGI should kill two birds with one stone and have a DLC focused around the 1st Somerset Strikers 

I'm still looking forward to this one though!  I'm really hoping we'll be able to put physical weapons on anything that has hands...

I noticed that they’re coming out with a more canon-compliant version of Yen-Lo-Wang with this one, given melee weapons exist now. And of course, the Partisan is getting a similar deal.

I should probably get around to actually finishing my campaign that I started.

Using the MercTech mod, I'm early in the career mode and just did an IE quest where I had to take down that mean merc leader.  During the battle my Centurion 9AH's AC/20 bins malfunctioned - without exploding thankfully - and left my main gun dry. 

So I had to close into close quarters and engage him hand-to-hand.  Both of the enemy Hunchback 4H's arms were shot off so he couldn't punch me back, but he still had plenty of gun.  However, his head armor was gone!  So I viciously backhanded his Hunchback in the face with my Centurion and killed him    That goes up there as one of my most memorable MechWarrior moments 

(For those who aren't familiar the Centurion's punch animation looks like a backhand!)

Well, I'll be the first to say it: I'm disapointed.
I really thought we'd get more then this and seeing the content, I guess this is the last bit we get out of MW5 (guess I can start looking at mods once they sync with the new DLC).

Melee is nice but to me it's a pretty minor part, the 5 missions mini-campaign looks somewhat interesting and new biomes are nice...but just one mech and no real overhaul of the basic mechanics? So much more could be made out of the sand-box element and all.
I'm not too critical about PGI's job, at least we got another offline MW... being such a niche market, it was already good enough just to get something.

But this is disapointing.

I'm definitely waiting for this DLC to go on sale.  I find the hatchet/sword animations to be refreshing compared to mods with melee weapons just using the punch animation.  Nothing like holding an axe only to punch your opponent with that same hand
