A MechWarrior for a project i'm working on, this man, or woman, its deliberately hard to tell does not exist, they are listed KIA/MIA and are part of a black ops unit who's loyalty to House Cameron is absolute. Whereas the Black Watch are the noble shield of the Star League. The Soldiers of the Special Operations Executive are the dagger in the dark.

Each Mechwarrior undergoes full special forces training and is expected to be able to operate any 'Mech or vehicle without issue, but their main weapon is the 'Tuatha series of Stealth BattleMechs.

Operating outside of the juristiction of the SLDF, even the Commanding General does not know of the SOE's existence and the SOE does not appear on any records or budget allocations. Instead, they report only to the Director General of The Terran Hegemony (who would be the 1st Lord) and the Director of Star League intelligence. Here this MechWarrior is outside of their Cockpit, possibly during a bit of down time on mission, but are fully armed and equipped to deal with any situation.

No its just a polarizing faceplate, the part above the eye section comes down when operating as a Neurohelmet. But...if they were injured and needed them, considering how hugely valuable (in terms of training etc) these Operatives are, cybernetics would not be off the table.

Not to the level of the MD of course.

A Dullahan disengaging its Chameleon and Null sig but being rather flashy about it prior to firing, the system works perfectly fine in the rain, enough to fool sensors but it can be detected by the human eye.

Now I'm imagining Predator, only with Mechs.

Also, the DTHI Mech looks like it might be a conventional version of a Tuatha design, meant to give them more cover.

Well the problem is that when you answer to two people and one of those is an ineffectual idiot..it messes up the chain of command. And the SOE were otherwise 'occupied' in the Taurian concordat at the outbreak of the Coup.

I'm looking forward to seeing what your Special Operators look like. I contend that the Star League had the single most expansive Special Forces branch ever before assembled. The SLDF's Special Forces Command (detailed in the SLSB pg 129) had several elite units that included;

Special Armed Services (the Blackhearts) counterespionage and counterterrorism
All-Weather Combat Corps (the Foul Weather Fiends) nonstandard battlefield Mechwarriors
Special Forces Aero Wing (the Flying Lions) elite AeroSpace Fighters

This was expanded by the House Davion SB to include;

Rapid Deployment Mixed Armed Forces (Deneb Light Cavalry) troubleshooters

You can essentially expand on this group for just about any need with a good hook as the DLC was never really detailed elsewhere before and was an 'off the books' regiments of the SLDF. Of course, I did this with my Deep Space Cavalry (DSC) which was essentially a Deep Periphery security force for distant Terran colonies during the Star League era.

Love to see what you come up with marauder648.  ;)

Well funny you should mention those.

Because the SOE are, in this book, part of the the All Weather Combat Corps which is actually the other focus of the book.

The AWCC on paper is a Royal formation, so equipped with all the latest toys, but they also have here, a slew of non-standard Mechs, ones that were either not accepted for widescale deployment, or were undergoing testing as well. The idea being that the AWCC's various units would be spread out to act as a quick reaction force to get to a situation as quickly as possible, and that having non-standard stuff would be an advantage against the Great Houses or Periphery states who wouldn't know what the suddenly unknown Mechs they're facing are or their capabilities.

And hidden in the AWCC is the SOE formation, totally and utterly separate of course, the SOE is more akin to the ultra-specialised special forces that we have today (Seal Team 6, special squads in various militaries etc) who are tasked with dealing with a threat quickly and quietly, or going for decapitation strikes and the like. Operation GLASS HOUSE is an example of this. The Kuritans got their hands on some SLDF royal aerospace fighters that were grabbed by 'pirates', and to stop the Kuritans getting their hands on the advanced tech, the base they're at is hit by an SOE squad and is levelled with the personnel killed and any data there destroyed. Some evidence might point fingers at the lyrans or Suns, and whilst the combine might suspect House Cameron/SLDF, there's no evidence to say otherwise.

And its the same if there was a buisness exec caught selling secrets, and the head of SL Intel (appointed by the Director General) or the Director General themself thought that this person could escape punishment in the courts, then there's a terribly tragic accident, or a brutal mugging and that problem is 'dealt with'.

The Hegemony and SLDF are often remembered as veritable saints of great morale fortitude and strong leadership (that laughing you can hear is from the Periphery) but they were human, and the Director General is a dictator. They have the courts, and senate, but at the end of the day, they are the one with all the power, and will do what is needed to ensure that power is kept and secure. And so the SOE is very much the idea that A knife in the dark is worth a thousand swords at dawn. And for bigger ops, they'd operate behind hostile lines, going for critical targets (HQ's, strategic weapons etc)

Precentor

An interesting find on an old data core, we're still working on cleaning up the data and quality but there's some footage of an SLDF field test exercise and there's a rather rare sight, a Percival is clearly seen for a few seconds as it jumps to clear an obstacle. I will send you our data on this machine once we have cleaned up the footage. The exercise could be useful for ComGuard personnel.

We are coming up blank here, we've been searching data logs and whilst this 'Mech is unknown, we belive it is a proof of concept machine, please not the unusually short PPC, at first we thought it was a similar weapon to those on the Thug but we cannot verify this, it is possible that it could be a different version of the Tigart PPC but the energy linkages and barrel are too different. Once we get clearer footage we will pass on the results of our investigation.

So smoke LRMs for getting close and then unleashing the SSRM2+3MLs+SnubPPC. Also I am wondering, does the cockpit rotate?
