I recently mentioned my

old thread about Laser Arrays in the Succession Wars. That made me think about some of the crazier 31st Century IS engineers trying to revive the research, hence the below.

ER Laser Arrays

ER Lasers don't actually require anything more than the original array technology (which is to say, one link between EVERY weapon in the array). Of course, they result in MUCH more heat (though no change in range)...

Laser Array Links (so you don't have to refer to my old thread):

IS Small Laser Array: 0.5 ton, 1 critical, 1 heat per link

IS Medium Laser Array: 1 ton, 1 critical, 2 heat per link

IS Large Laser Array: 2 tons, 2 criticals, 3 heat per link (thus only three Large Lasers can be linked on a 'mech)

2 IS ER Small Lasers: 1.5 tons; 3 criticals; 5 heat; 3 or 6 damage (3 aero)

2 IS ER Medium Lasers: 3 tons; 3 criticals; 12 heat; 5 or 10 damage (5 aero)

2 IS ER Large Lasers: 12 tons; 6 criticals; 30 heat; 8 or 16 damage (8 aero)

Configurations of 3

3 IS ER Small Lasers: 3 tons; 6 criticals; 9 heat; 3, 6, or 9 damage (6 aero, only 3 threshold)

3 IS ER Medium Lasers: 6 tons; 6 criticals; 21 heat; 5, 10, or 15 damage (10 aero, only 5 threshold)

3 IS ER Large Lasers: 21 tons; 12 criticals; 42 heat; 8, 16, or 24 damage (16 aero, only 8 threshold)

Configurations of 4

4 IS ER Small Lasers: 5 tons; 10 criticals; 14 heat; 3, 6, 9, or 12 damage (6 aero, only 3 threshold)

4 IS ER Medium Lasers: 10 tons; 10 criticals; 32 heat; 5, 10, 15, or 20 damage (10 aero, only 5 threshold)

4 IS ER Large Lasers (Large Aerospace Craft/Vehicles/Test Stands only): 32 tons; 20 spaces; 66 heat; 8, 16, 24, or 32 damage (16 aero, only 8 threshold)

Pulse Laser Arrays

Unfortunately, trying to array Pulse Lasers resulted in the loss of some accuracy. Pulse Laser arrays only gain a -1 target number to hit vice the -2 Pulse Lasers normally get. And the array hardware was also significantly more complex, resulting in increased weight and heat, if not space, requirements. Range stays the same here too.

3 IS Pulse Large Lasers: 27 tons; 12 criticals; 39 heat; 9, 18, or 27 damage (18 aero, only 9 threshold)

Configurations of 4

4 IS Pulse Small Lasers: 10 tons; 10 criticals; 20 heat; 3, 6, 9, or 12 damage (6 aero, only 3 threshold)

4 IS Pulse Medium Lasers: 20 tons; 10 criticals; 34 heat; 6, 12, 18, or 24 damage (12 aero, only 6 threshold)

4 IS Pulse Large Lasers (Large Aerospace Craft/Vehicles/Test Stands only): 46 tons; 20 spaces; 58 heat; 9, 18, 27, or 36 damage (18 aero, only 9 threshold)

Clanners can do their own math. It should be clear most clanner weapons are superior to any of the above (on space, if nothing else)...
