Why Not 2? The IS Micro Pulse Laser...
« on: 31 May 2020, 14:58:26 »
I just reviewed my IS Micro Laser thread, and one unanswered question from there was "Why not a Pulse version?"

After quite a bit of consideration (and no less procrastination), I present what I think an IS Micro Laser would look like:
Code: [Select]
Heat Damage Range Weight Space Tech Level Notes
  1        2 0/1/2/3 0.5   1      D 1d6 Anti-Infantry damage

It has the same damage and range as the IS Micro Laser I proposed, but also the typical Pulse Laser bonus to hit and increased AI damage for the cost of another quarter ton.  Against the bog standard Small Laser, it does one less point of TW damage.  Compared to the options from my Remote Weapon Station thread, it has less range, but more TW damage than the Support Laser RWS, and less weight and range but twice the TW damage of the Heavy Support Pulse Laser.  I think that adequately reflects the difference in priorities between AI and "normal" weapons.

By the time many Inner Sphere tech system start ,  it happens so far down the timeline that mixed tech becomes advanced not experimental.  So buy what limited numbers of Clan weapons from the Sea Foxes until by the dark age or before you reversed engineered  the weapon  and make it yourself . In short No to Zero incentive to develop an inferior weapon system that you are already trying to reverse engineer.
