The only one I can see with that sort of wisdom, given his experiences, is Anastasius Focht.
Vir wasn't really the wise, experienced character. He was the everyman, the nebbish, the microscopic cog in the catastrophic plan, Londo's Jiminy Cricket. That was what made his occasional moments of badassery so effective in the narrative - he was a regular guy who got pushed around until he couldn't take it any more, then pushed back
hard. The Battletech equivalent is a minor character, not a faction leader. The first guy who comes to mind in the Battletech universe who has the subordinate position and moral authority to deliver that line is Michi Noketsuna before Misery.
