THS California
Nanking, Sarna March
Federated Commonwealth
02 January 3066

The gathering fleet over Nanking was impressive for anyone that could have seen it.  Already Fleet Commander Candice Mancuso had the fleet reorganization into full swing.  The California was slated to be her flagship and with the reserves now fully mobilized the new fleet structure was falling into place.  A new and reinforced Hegemony Command Group was waiting in orbit of the inhabited planet.  Twelve Warships split to provide multiple operational capabilities.  The Admiral’s own California was the head of a division set on space combat operations.  Two Light Cruisers and a pair of Destroyers completed her divisions main fighting strength.  The Duchess’ new escort would be her flagship the Lakota a new Temeraire-class frigate.  Escorted by a pair of the new Typhon destroyers and one of the surviving Robinson IIB corvette transports.  The Kearsarge would transport a significant portion of the Duchess’ Guards enabling her to move about the Inner Sphere with some form of protection.
At the zenith jump point Second Fleet was reorganizing.  Replacing losses suffered at Atreus with fresh ships from the reserve and retiring older worn-out ships.  The new reinforced fleet would receive an additional heavy transport and armored transport ships.  The same was happening at the nadir point with Third Fleet.  In this case losing both of its assault transports – the Bataan dying at Marik and the Kearsarge transferred to the HCG – Third received two heavy transports and four armored transports to replace losses.  While also fielding several reactivated ships.  The fleet was in better operational shape than it was when it first went into action in support of the Federated Commonwealth during the Marik-Liao offensive of ’57.
Mancuso watched the display updating.  The Fourth Fleet was already in system and she noticed that the majority of the March was undefended from naval power.  This was planned.  “This might not be a good plan, but this allows us to reorganize quickly, protect the Duchess and not lose ships moving around alone or in pairs moving to their new assignments.”  Mancuso said briefing her staff.  “In the next forty-eight hours we are going to redeploy.  We will secure most of the ground forces from their temporary garrisons in the March and prepare to conduct operations.”
“Admiral, I understand second and third Fleet’s missions escorting ground corps about.  What will Fourth Fleet be doing?”  This was asked of one of her Captains from the planning team.
“They will patrol the Sarna March freeing up FedCom naval assets to patrol the rest of their nation without having to worry about the Terran Corridor.  The Fourth will be supporting FedCom ground troops by responding to attacks and other calls for help throughout the region.”  Mancuso reported.  This would allow her staff to begin planning for contingencies.
“Yes Ma’am.”  Her staff officer responded.
“Look people this is why we attached combing communications companies with each of the FedCom commands in the region.  The Word of Blake has been knocking out HPG’s before jumping in with their assault forces.  This way if something happens, we can receive warning and deploy reinforcements and end it.  With the Jade Falcon Incursion halted and rumblings of a major fight going on in the Clan Homeworlds it looks like we do not have to worry right now about the Clans.”  Mancuso reported, she was still not fully briefed in and there was something nagging her about that.  “This means our forces in the Lyran State will be returning and we are going to begin a system by system clearance of the surrounding space within thirty lightyears of Terra to begin.”
A long whistle came from the back of the room and Mancuso smiled as she saw who it was.  “Admiral Al-Bakar, you have something to add?”
“Yes Ma’am, that will take more ships then we have period.  There are hundreds of systems within that footprint.  Even narrowing down for systems with radio signals and likely activity I don’t know if we have enough warships to do this.” Admiral Al-Bakar, fourth fleets commander reported.
“We do admiral.  However, the entire fleet will have to go one ship at a time.  We can use every warship and JumpShip.  Jump into a system complete a sweep and jump out.  If we find any sign of the Word of Blake, they either jump immediately or call for help.  Then everyone returns.”  Mancuso stated.
“That could work Ma’am we would still need to cover two or three systems with each ship.”  Al-Bakar said.
“Yes, that will be the biggest problem.  This will take about a month or so with having to recharge.  I don’t want anyone stuck in a system unable to withdraw.”  Mancuso stated.

Forty-eight hours later the whole plan Mancuso had come up with was flushed down the toilet when word came in of the devastation of the Terran Garrison.  I Corps was gutted in chemical and nuclear attacks.  Several regiments survived and even the 82ND Jump Infantry Division survived.  With several Divisions off world and in the Skye March the system was undermanned.  The Word of Blake had been infiltrating forces onto the planet through ComStar for the last few years and between the nearly three Divisions of Blakist militia on planet and the chemical and nuclear strikes the rest of I Corps was either dead, trapped in Castles Brian or located elsewhere in the system.
Duchess Ryan was aboard the flagship along with her two Corps and three fleet commanders present.  “I want to know right now what the plan is your thoughts are?”
“Your Grace, we need to strike back at the Word of Blake and relieve our people on in system.”  General Austin suggested.
“We need to get our people out of there Your Grace.”  Another person suggested.
Sarah sat back in her chair, watching as the various admirals and generals debated what to do.  Even Mancuso was unsure.  She noticed it all of their demeanors.  No one had a clue what to do.  The first instinct was to smash and then to assess.  No, we weren’t going to be doing that again.  She had lost half a Corps for the most part.
“Tell me of our casualties.”  Sarah ordered.
Major General Tom Turner – her staff link to administrative command – picked up a tablet before continuing.  “Your Grace, we lost about seventy percent of 1ST BattleMech, fifty-percent of 4th ID, 7th ID is effectively destroyed.  The 82ND lost a brigade to a direct nuclear strike and follow-up chemical attack.  They were responding to a breakout of violence on the African continent.  4TH Hussars were caught in a chemical attack and are combat ineffective and the 149TH Battle Regiment and Corps Headquarters are offline.  1ST CAAN is in combat against Blakist militia and the 1ST ACR and 10TH Light Cav are fighting alongside the 201ST ComGuard Division on North America and holding.”  Turner reported.
“Thank you, Tom.”  Sarah replied.  “Winslow, what’s in the tea leaves?”  She asked her staff intelligence officer.
“Ma’am, the Word of Blake managed to plot a pirate point that only had a few hours of life to it and jumped in a number of transports and made a burn to Terra.  We think they may have dropped as many as eight Divisions on the surface.”  Wilson Carlisle reported.
“Ok I want second fleet ready to move and prepare plans for both a relief force and a withdraw.”  She looked around the table.  “Terra officially belongs to ComStar and it is up to them to hold it.  I will contact the Precentor Martial within the hour to inform him.”
The various members of her staff all nodded agreement.  Sarah turned to Mancuso.  “Candice, I am leaving the Terran region in your hands while I reinforce III Corps and try and hunt down the Word of Blake spin-ward.”
Mancuso thought about that for a moment, then shook her head.  “I don’t think that would be a good idea Your Grace.”  She stated.  Continuing when she had Sarah’s attention.  “I need to go to No-Cal and coordinate the larger war effort.  We need to setup an alternate summit site as well.”
Sarah thought about that for several minutes.  “It’s the perfect site for a meeting.  Its centrally located and we can get everyone we need to there.  Besides it will be heavily defended.”
“I understand that, but Nova California is still our Capital and Homeworld.  If the Word of Blake find it or any of the other powers discover its actual location and that gets out, we will be forced to defend it.  With only a couple of Guard Divisions on planet we would be forced to rely on the Defense Network more than I am comfortable with.”  Mancuso pleaded.
Sarah thought about what Mancuso was saying and had to agree.  “Ok, we will use site Bravo.  It has a working SDS and a minimal population.  As you all know we are still repairing the damage from the Amaris Coup and the Succession Wars but its habitable healthy and defended.”  She looked towards Turner.  “It has what about a hundred-fifty thousand people living there right now?”
Turner nodded.  “Yes, Your Grace.  That’s about right.”
“Will that work Candice?”  Sarah asks.
“Yes, Your Grace.  That will work fine.  We can activate Cleansing in Phase One and delete the coordinates of the other worlds from all the data banks except the planetary backup core.  I will place an SAS battalion there in order to protect it and if this turns to shit, they can wipe it and destroyed the physical core.”  Sarah offered to the group seeking their suggestions.
   Those around the table agreed.

Landing Zone Mu
North America, Terra
Terran System
03 January 3066

Precentor Randolph Kanni walked his KGC-000 King Crab down the ramp of the DropShip that had returned him to Terra.  Six years after the failed Operation Odysseus and Kanni’s successful escape from Terra to return to Gibson.  Having returned in disgrace he was surprised when The Master had called for him by name.  He was now slated to ascend to be an Manei Domini as long as this operation was successful.  His rebuilt 3RD Division had six full Level III’s.  Five standard Militia battalions and a sixth of Manei Domini assigned to him personally by The Master.  He was leading three Militia Divisions and a regiment of Mercenaries against the surviving garrison of North America.  The traitorous 201ST Com Guard Division, the heretical 10TH Light Cavalry and the demons of the 1ST Armored Cavalry formerly the 1ST Dragoons.  Two of the most hated units by the Word of Blake were still alive having been out training against the 10TH Light Cavalry.
“It is good to be back Randolph.”  Precentor XI Shilpa Pai called from his Albatross as it lumbered down the ramp oh his own Assault Triumph.  The thought brought him back to the Jungles of Amazonia as they had first gathered the survivors of his and several other Divisions in the jungles and seized a Spaceport before abandoning their equipment and hijacking a DropShip and then a JumpShip to escape the system.
“It is at that old friend.”  Kanni replied.  “Let us join our comrades and end this taint upon Holy Terra my friend.”  Kanni said solemnly.
“By your leave Precentor.”  Pai responded waving his ‘Mech’s arm in salute.

Brigadier General Bianca Mathews swore as she watched the Blakist Shiva sweep in to strafe her lines.  Her fighter cover had been nuked along with the rest of the Bowling Green garrison.  Thankfully she had the full ground force out in the field armed with live rounds and was expecting to conduct a live fire exercise with the 201ST Division and the 10TH Cavalry as part of pre-deployment training.
“Star slayer 6, Blackhawk 6.  This is good enough start clearing my skies.”  Mathews ordered.
There was a pause then a response.  “Blackhawk 6, Star slayer 6.  Confirmed.  We are deployed and beginning to engage.”  Responded Major Rosas her air defense battalion commander.  Assigned for the operation and a Corps asset Mathews was grateful she had managed to secure the battalion during their deployment on Terra and as part of Regimental Combat Team 1.  In addition to her own battery of Pollux’s Rosas’s 121ST Air Defense Battalion brought another two batteries of Pollux ADA Tanks and a battery of the new Arrow-IV Air defense vehicles.
The Blackhawks and the 201ST Com Guards were all operating under the air defense bubble of the 121ST as Blakist fighters all began to take heaving fire.  After fifteen minutes the Blakist aerospace and VTOL assets were forced to operate in direct support of their ground forces and would only sortie behind coalition lines to strike at targets of value.
Looking at the data relay on her Abrams’ OmniMech’s Legion BMS display Mathews noticed a gap in the Word’s lines.  “X-Ray, Six.”  Mathews called.  “Look at CN 609 213 and tell me what you see.”  She ordered.
It took several minutes before Colonel Harris came back.  “Six, this is Five.  I see it but I think it’s a trap.”
“Yeah they have opened a hole in their lines, but I think that sixth battalion they haven’t wanted to show us is hiding back their somewhere ready to hammer us if we move through it.”  Mathews agreed.
“Roger Six, I don’t like it and I recommend we just hammer that gap with artillery and make it look like we are going to push through it.  I can coordinate with Buffalo and the Guards to make it look like a major attack on that position.”  Harris offered.
“No Five, we will launch a major attack.  Contact the Guards.  They will push in their zone with Buffalo and I want third squadron to attack to the North of that gap.  We will prep the gap with artillery and then hit somewhere else.”  Mathews ordered.
“Confirmed Six, coordinating now.”  The XO reported.
“Alright Six out.”  She said terminating the transmission and setting up attack points and support by fire positions for her Brigade assets.  At the same time, she was pushing the concept of operation to her squadron commanders and to the 10TH Light Cavalry – the Buffalo Soldiers – over the Legion BMS. When she was done, she waited about five minutes and then began to see graphics for her Squadron Commanders planning appear on the display.  She nodded and went about coordinating with the rest of the Task Force.

*         *         *
Precentor Kanni watched as the artillery came crashing down on the whole in his lines that he had opened between the 3RD and 6TH Divisions.  His reserve Division the 12TH was moving up to begin to flank the Com Guards along with the Hsien Hotheads.  His Masters Hand III-kappa was waiting to exploit the foolish charge of any Hegemony troops that chose to try and breach his lines at the gap he had intentionally left open.  His XO and soon to be replacement Precentor XIV David Fellers brought his Crown of Light III-iota in preparation of closing the escape of anyone who tried.
The artillery continued to pound the Crown of Light and the Glimpse of Pain III-eta from 6TH Division.  That’s when he heard it.
“Luminous Actual, this is Pure Thoughts Actual.  Fortunes of War is in contact with heavy ground forces.  I estimate two reinforced mixed battalions.”  The report came in from Fellers.  He was acting as the field commander for the 3RD Division – Pure Thoughts and Actions IV-Mu – while Kanni commanding the entire Sixth Army.
“That would be one of their new squadrons Precentor.”  Kanni corrected.
“Of Course, Precentor.”  Fellers corrected.  “They are advancing under fire and in good order.  It looks like an entire battalion of OmniMechs, Clan and their new ones.”
“Very well Precentor.  Hold them.  I want to see how they react to the 6TH closing ranks before I reinforce your position.”  Kanni ordered.
“Yes sir.”  Fellers responded and the channel closed.

Lasers and particle cannons crisscrossed the battlefield intermixed with contrails of missiles, tracers and the electromagnetic blurs of gauss slugs.  It was unmitigated hell unleashed.  Captain David Moreno watched as his India Troop advanced under the guns of the enemy battalion.  His Grimnir Prime waded into the fire already had the Elemental’s that had been riding his ‘Mech into the fight had jumped clear to bound forward by squads.  He spotted a Blakist Achileus battle suit as it bounded over to attempt to engage a squad of his Elemental’s.  He now spotted another half dozen bounding up to support the first half dozen.
“These must be their new squad organization.”  He said to his lance.
“Looks like base six for their Level I’s Sir.”  Sergeant Hurly agreed.
“Ok people let’s roll them back.”  Moreno ordered.  The two squads of five troopers were part of the new experiment with Clan battle armor organizations.  The platoon of main battle tanks attached to his Troop rolled up to the support by fire position he had spotted along with a pair of Nike infantry fighting vehicles to deploy another two platoons of mechanized infantry.  The new Alke tanks were split between the prime and bravo variants for this part of the operation.  Two LRM-AV carriers from the fire support battalion of reservists rolled up and began laying down volleys of LRM’s.
The Word of Blake troops continued to advance under the relentless firepower of the combined 3RD Squadron, 1ST Armored Cavalry Regiment.  The Blackhawks were engaged.
The two Alke Bravo’s worked as a team and paired up one each with their Prime variants and began hammering away at the Blakist advancing.  They singled out a Toyama and one section of two tanks began hammering it joined by one of the Nike’s.  The other section and the second Nike began firing on a Shadow Hawk.  The wester section’s Alke Prime opened up with its particle cannon, quickly following that up with a pair of gauss slugs from the Alke Bravo paired with it.   The Nike in that section loosed a flight from its LRM-15 launcher.
One of the two LRM-AV Carrier’s targeting systems swiveled and lined up with the Shadow Hawk.  Sixty Artemis-V guided long range missiles rippled free of its launchers and soared into the medium ‘Mech finishing off the already battered machine with an overkill of missiles.  The Blackhawks fought as combined arms troops all along the lines using OmniMechs, vehicles and artillery combined with several companies of Vector II Attack helicopters to hammer home the point that the Hegemony may have taken it in the face with the nuclear and chemical strikes, but it was anything but defeated.

All across Terra Hegemony forces dusted themselves off, emerged from bunkers and other dispersed bases and got into the fight.  The 4TH Cavalry and 34TH Striker Regiments in Europe fought alongside TerraSec battalions as they fought the 4TH, 5TH and 39TH Divisions across the continent.  The surviving brigade combat teams of the 82ND Jump Infantry Division sortied from their bases and executed an airborne counterattack on the Simonson’s Cutthroats on the African Continent and the 4TH Division on Australia.
Lieutenant General Jacob Corbin thought dead with his headquarters survived having been in Amazonia observing a joint exercise between the 3RD Mechanized Infantry Division’s 33RD Brigade Combat Team and the 104TH Com Guard Division.  Together they managed to team up and throwback the Khasparov’s Knights and a joint mercenary regiment made up of the Fist of Mokal, HeavyHell Raisers and Wannamaker’s Widowmakers.  The two experienced commands hammered the mercenary force.  General Corbin using the inexperience of the three separate mercenary battalions of merc’s as a weakness and began attacking them along the battalion boundaries.  With the Mercenary regiment fracturing under the pressure of the Com Guard assault General Corbin led the 33RD BCT against the Knights.  The jungles and plateau’s of the Amazon became a battle thought would forever be remembered in history as the Hegemony pushed the Blakist mercenaries to the Amazon river and once pinned against the river with only ‘Mechs and infantry who had thrown away their equipment could cross.
Operating from the back of a Badger Tracked transport converted into a mobile command post, Corbin watched the overall picture of the battle not just in the Amazon but across the planet.  The Legion BMS tied into the global satellite network and relaying information on units across the globe.  He punched up a message and hit send.
The system relayed across the planet to a unit hidden in the Hindukush, a very special unit made up of the boogiemen and the demons from the ninth ring of hell itself.  Because ‘Who dares wins’…

Mazar-e Sharif

Terra, Terran System
04 January 3066

Darkness fell across the valley as the black painted transports lifted off from the remote airfield.  The members of the Special Operations Aviation Regiment known as SOAR always fly at night.  A Dozen ungainly VTOLs with precious cargo slung beneath them as they made their way to the various targets across the region.  It would take days to get to their destination landing every morning to wait for darkness before lifting off again and continuing on.
Another group of hardened operators left by highspeed rail to travel to the European continent.  Built in secret by the Terran Hegemony’s Logistics command centuries before in order to move supplies and reinforcements around the planet without exposing them to the enemy.  They would only take a day to reach their objective without having to stop every morning to hide.  A third group had left the moment they received the orders for North America aboard the same rail line.  No system was perfect through and they would arrive when the air assets arrived.  All three groups would coordinate their strikes in order to hammer the enemy C3ISR – Command, Communications, Control, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance – networks.
The Word of Blake had made deals with the devil in order to advance their cause.  The devils were coming to collect their due.

DCS Siriwan
Epsilon Eridiani, Sarna March
Federated Commonwealth
11 April 3066

The collection of warships was interesting Theodore thought.  A FedCom Avalon, Capellan Feng Haung II, Compact Temeraire, League Agamemnon, a Com Star Cameron and his own Kirishima class Siriwan.  All led by a Hegemony Belfast as it sat there taking direct control of the coalition ships navigational computers.  The countdown ticked slowly until it hit zero and the entire group began jumping into the unknown.
Theodore recovered quickly from the jump and looked around as the sensors began to read the light in the surrounding area and then further and further out.  The coalition ships were visible.  Along with the hegemony pilot ship.  Klaxons sounded securing from jump stations while another series announced maneuvering.
The ships began to follow the cruiser into the system.  Theodore watched the holo-tank as the display began to fill with icons and images of stations and ships in the vicinity.  It looked like a a defensive force of six destroyers were burning impossibly hard to intercept the coalition ships.  Most likely to verify what they already knew to be the delegation arriving.  But they were moving to fast for anyone to just be conducting a verification.
A hail was received by the ship’s captain and he put it on the screen.  It was the Hegemony captain of the pilot ship.  “All ships do not take any actions other than following my ship in system.  Stay within the corridor and do not charge fire on anything in system unless you are directly engaged, or I inform you otherwise.  If you do the sentries will engage.”  The image winked out.
Theodore turned to his son.  “This is ominous.  What have we gotten ourselves into Hohiro-san?”  he asked.
Hohiro looked at his father knowingly.  “Yes Father, it is.”
The six warships cut acceleration flipped and began a hard deceleration burn to give them a half-gravity passing speed in order to inspect the coalition ships as they proceeded into the system.  It took nearly an hour for the ships to make intercept, but when the gasps could be heard on every ship.
“This cannot be so!”  Shouted Sho-sho Yui Iwata the ships captain.
Theodore exchanged looks with Hohiro with confusion.  “Sho-sho Iwata, what is the problem?”  Hohiro inquired.
She turned her command chair to look at her Coordinator and Son seated in the VIP stations.  “Sire, those are Casper’s.”
The meaning behind that one word was not lost on anyone.

The modified hull design of the Lola II destroyer gave the M-5 Casper an evil look with all of the gun ports and weapons blisters across its hull.  The five M-5 and one M-5C Casper drones slid past the coalition ships and made a very visible point of securing its weapons as it did.  This was more than a warning this was a statement.  The six sharks completed their pass of the inbound coalition ships before swinging around to shadow them from outside of weapons range.  They followed for two days before breaking off and returning to the jump point.

The group arrived in orbit around a water rich world.  Surrounding the planet were three of the M-9 Pavise SDS Battle stations.  The coalition war ships detected a swarm of aerospace fighters and dropships coming out to meet them as the settled into orbit.  Instructions from the nearest station indicated that shuttles were already on their way to pick up the delegations.
Sun-Tzu watched as the Mówáng luxury shuttles approached each of the coalition ships.  Turning to Naomi he smiled.  “Well at least we know what they were doing with those shuttles they bought from us.”
Naomi shaking her head replied.  “Well yes my dear. They may be a thorn in your hand when it comes to your plans to recoup the losses from the 4TH Succession War, but they do keep their word and are fair.”
Sun-Tzu found himself nodding at that.  “What does your Sister think of this new Duchess of theirs?”  Sun-Tzu asked.
“Danai loves her.”  Naomi said flatly.  “Her regiment has been fighting alongside Sarah’s Guard’s since Atreus and they seem to have become friends.”
“Hmm.”  Sun-Tzu caught himself making the sound.  He looked at his betrothed and catching her eye and the cocking of her head.
“Do not worry.  Danai said she doesn’t want to be Magestrix.  Even if she still takes the throne, she won’t deny the alliance between the Confederation and the Magistracy hasn’t been good for both nations.”  Naomi reached out at cupped her fiancés chin.  “Besides, maybe adding the Hegemony to the alliance wouldn’t be so bad.  Sure, you won’t get all of your worlds back but maybe something could be worked out.”
“Our shuttle is here my love.  I believe it is time to depart.”  Sun-Tzu said changing the subject.  He was still upset that Danai Centrella had not died during OPERATION BULLDOG as his agents had been ordered to ensure.  War is fickle like that.  He thought to himself.

Victor watched as the squadron of drone fighters swam around his shuttle as it escorted it towards the battle stations small craft bays.  He watched as the fighters peeled off and moved up to their own hanger doors and slipped into the robotic hangers one at a time.  His shuttles gear touched down on the deck and an arm extended and locked onto the shuttles docking collar.  As the airlocks cycled and opened Victor pulled himself along the tube and swung himself into the yellow painted square on the deck.
Arrayed before him was a side party of Terran Marines and Duchess Sarah Ryan in her dress uniform smiled as Victor stepped out of the circle.
“Welcome to Fort Hope Victor.”  Her smiled grew wide.  “Welcome to Brownsville.”
Victor’s face grew pale. “What the f…”

Dürnbucher Forst
Germany, Europe
Terra, Terran System

Precentor Sigma Phantom Izran watched as the Adepts from the 5TH Division finished with the terrain model.  He had The Deviants III-theta attached to his 39TH for the next attack on the 4TH Cavalry while his counter part Precentor Rule and his 4TH Division along with support from Ture Vision III-lambda of the 5TH would attack the 34TH Striker and the survivors of the German TerraSec battalion operating in the east.  The Hegemony forces were battered and bloodied, however they were still very dangerous as Precentor Endicott had discovered when his Sleight of Hand III-gamma was trapped behind the lines by one of the 4TH Cavalry’s squadrons and the French TerraSec battalion sold itself to pin them in place long enough for a major artillery bombardment to break the battalion.
Izran was not like his other Manei Domini filled with contempt for the frails within the Word of Blake.  He knew of their value and knew that they were the Word of Blake.  His view was that the Manei Domini were the protectors of the frails and that it was up to him to guide and lead them during war.  That was why he had argued to keep the Shadow Divisions out of the initial landings.  That was why they were holding in the system and not approaching Terra until he signaled.  A Signal he would have sent had not his mobile HPG been destroyed.  Now he was waiting on the slow crawl of radio waves to reach his reinforcements out beyond the ort cloud.
“Thank you, Adepts.”  Izran said as they two commanders of the Deviants’ recon and assault demi-companies finished the layout.  Demi-Precentor Vong commander of The Deviants approached with her other sub-unit commanders.  The Deviants III-theta had not yet been engaged during this whole campaign and were still fresh with their entire ground force compliment.  Vong’s aerospace assets were assigned to the Precentor in charge of aerospace operations as he fought to keep the skies above Terra free from Com Star and Hegemony fighters.  “Demi-Precentor Vong, shall we begin?”  He asked as Cori Vong arrived.
“Precentor Izran, please.”  She said nodding to the terrain model that her Adepts had labored to build of the proposed battlefield.
With his gathered battalion commanders and Demi Vong Izran began his briefing.  “As you can see here.  The 4TH Cavalry is set back from the front with a screen line set from Amberg to Roth as our strike force advances up the 9…”

Major Maia Jaso maneuvered her Exterminator slowly around a tree having remained stationary throughout the night as the Word of Blake Militia moved into the forest just as she suspected they would.  She was just over five-hundred meters from where her A-Team had identified the command team was conducting their Combine Arms Rehearsal for an upcoming mission.  She knew her detachment was surrounded and would have to race to get clear.  This wasn’t that sort of mission today.  Today she was hunting big game.  An HVI was in that group.  She had imagery relayed from the SOF guys and was sure she had an Manei Domini in her sights.  He was not allowed to live through this.
Her laser link locked onto her wingman in his Exterminator and along with the stealth systems the rest of the detachment had remained hidden and were slowly building up their weapons charges.  She heard the clicks and watched the status lights turn from red to green indicating weapons were armed and ready to fire.  She sent a burst message to Sergeant Martino to inform him of the exact time they would strike while selecting the relay antenna for her Special Forces A Team and bounced the same signal.
It was time…  It was time for the SAS to get into this fight.  Who Dares Wins…

“…ith the 4TH postured to support their screen line we will need to strike fast here just south of Nuremberg between Roth and Allersberg in order to drive up the 3 and cut the Laufamholzstraße and split the 4TH Cavalry’s lin…”  Izran’s briefing was cut short with cargo truck not sixty meters away exploded with the red coherent light of a laser stabbing through it and back into the trees.
Like ghost from the morning fog BattleMechs deactivating their Chameleon Light Polarization Shield’s and Null Signature systems faded into view as they unleashed lasers and missiles within the Divisions assembly area.  He saw four Exterminator’s and a pair of Spector’s moving about killing everyone and everything they could find.  They must have been here all night.  He thought as he turned and ran off to his Seraph OmniMech.
Izran didn’t make it twenty meters before out of a spider hole two armored forms appeared laser rifles at the ready and fired.  The pulse laser rifles hammered Izran in the chest sending him to the ground.  His ocular implants fading out as the damage overloaded his system and the last of his frail systems ceased to function…

“Pale Horse, this is Spector we are inbound with five and ten I say again inbound with five and ten.”  Jaso reported as she maneuvered her EXT-4Db Exterminator through the trees north approaching Münchsmünster hoping to get to the Danube and cross it before the 39TH could rally and hunt her detachment down.  The 4Th was supposed to have a combined arms Troop near Pfӧrring to support the extraction of her troopers from the fighting and cover the withdraw back north towards Nuremberg and the coalition lines.
“Spector this is Apache Six, we are in position and have battle armor and ‘Mechs on the southern bank to cover you.  Begin calling targets for indirect when ready.”  The commander of the Troop reported.
“Apache Six, Spector.  Confirmed we are passing through Münchsmünster now and have toasters in pursuit.”  Jaso report.  “Adjust fire over.”
The change in her wording automatically switched her over to that troops fire support net and put her in contact with the troop fire support officer in his track as he sat with the pair of guns north of the 299 in a field of wheat.  “Spector, Red Leg 27.  Adjust fire out.”  He replied.
“Red Leg 27 shift from Echo-Zulu 271 two-hundred-sixty-eight meters ninety-three degrees, BattleMech’s and armor in the tree line over.”
“Spector, shift from Echo-Zulu 271 two-hundred-sixty-eight meters, ninety-three degrees, BattleMech’s and armor in the tree line out.”  Thirty seconds passed before the FSO came back with the fire mission.  “Spector, message to observer. Target number Foxtrot-Delta 032 Tomahawk 2, four rounds DPICM over.”
“Red Leg 27, MTO. Target number Foxtrot-Delta 032 Tomahawk 2, four round DPICM out.”  Jaso responded.
A minute passed and then the radio crackled to life again.  “Spector, target number Foxtrot-Delta 032 shot over.”  Red Leg 27 called.
“Target number Foxtrot-Delta 032 shot out.”  Jaos confirmed that she knew the guns were firing.  She stopped turned and fired off her large laser hitting a Grigori as it stalked out of the trees.
“Spector, target number Foxtrot-Delta 032 splash over.”  Red Leg 27 reported indicating they should have impact on target.
The first round slammed into the ground fifty meters from the Grigori right on target as the rest of a reinforced Level II of ‘Mech’s, vehicles and battle armor began to emerge from the trees.  “Target number Foxtrot-Delta 032 splash out.”  She looked at the impact and determined it was spot on this time.  “Red Leg 27 fire for effect over.”  She called out before her wingman loosed a flight of LRMs from his EXT-4D Exterminator.  At the same time a team of six Nighthawk armored commandos bounded past her to their next covered and concealed position on the retreat to the river.
“Spector, target number Foxtrot-Delta 032 fire for effect out.” Red Leg 27 reported.
The horizon erupted as the six guns of Tomahawk 2 fired their two rounds from each gun before they displaced to an alternate firing position to avoid counter battery fire.
Maia Jaso watched as the ground erupted and armored infantry, vehicles and BattleMechs were thrown into the air or exploded with direct impacts.  Some of the rounds broke open in the air to deliver sub-munitions to crackle across the ground to add further chaos and destruction to the Word of Blake infantry.  She picked out the Grigori again and fired her extended range large laser again severing the OmniMech’s right arm and watched as its MRM launcher dropped to the ground useless.
Her people were not without casualties themselves.  One of her Exterminator’s had died in the forest when Sergeant Ericson held off a Blakist patrol that was getting ready to sortie when they launched their attack.  He took out a pair of hover tanks and crippled a light ‘Mech before he was overwhelmed.  Also lost were the two commando’s who killed the 39TH Divisions commander when battle armor assigned to the protection of the command group jumped to the aid of their dead commander and tore the Nighthawk equipped commands apart with their battle claws.
“Red leg 27, repeat target number Foxtrot-Delta 032.”  She ordered halting the guns movement from their firing position to give her one more barrage before they reached the river and safety.
“Spector, Red Leg 27 confirmed repeat target number Foxtrot-Delta 032.  Shot over…”

“I would like to thank everyone for coming.  We need to have this meeting to see where we stand.  The Word of Blake is sowing chaos across the Inner Sphere and all of your capitals are either under siege or the fires of their visit are still burning.  Terra is under siege four divisions nuked, 2 other regiments as well.  Survivors are fighting for their lives across the planet.  Word of Blake striking across the region surrounding Terra in an attempt to destabilize it.”  Sarah looked around the table.  She rested her eyes on Primus Mori and Precentor Martial Gavin Dow and the man he succeeded Anastasius Focht.  “Primus, your Com Star is fracturing.  I know why Precentor Martial’s Dow and Focht have been unable to reach a majority of the Guards.  Twenty-five divisions joined the Word of Blake in the last week alone.  Eight others destroyed when they refused to join or from internal conflicts.  I have twelve divisions and three army commands attempting to rally with my forces or any other coalition command they can find.”
The room was silent and those gathered shocked.  “ComStar isn’t the only ones.  A third of the Free World’s League federal troops have gone over to the Word of Blake along with about half their fleet.”  She said looking at Thomas ‘Marik’, now calling himself Halas after taking his late wife’s last name.  “In the Combine the Black Dragons have picked a fight between the government and the Azami Brotherhood and have Luthien under siege.”
“The FedCom is still reeling from having been split into two realms and is only slowly reforming.  Half of the realm is still finishing up pushing the Falcon’s back while at the same time reinforcing the border with the League.”  She looked at Victor and then to Sun-Tzu.  “The Confederation is plagued by the Blakist raiding their worlds.  The Suns State Command could reinforce the Confederation or surge into the Sarna March and reinforce the Lyran State.”
Sarah swept her gaze around the room.  “In twenty-four hours, representatives from the Inner Sphere Clans will be here at my invitation.  What do you all as the leaders of the Inner Sphere want to tell them?  They will already be in a bad mood after I am done with them.  Do you want to approach them united or do you want to remain fractured and weak?”
Those gathered around the table looked at one another and it was Chancellor Liao that spoke first.  “I would invite help from the Commonwealth and the Hegemony in halting these attacks.”  He turned to Victor.  “We have never seen eye to eye.  I know you are an honorable man who stands by his word.  I will pull my troops off of our borders to reinforce my League flank and the Magistracy.  I also grant access to all members of this coalition to transit through Confederation space and safe harbor wherever they can find it in my realm.”  He looked at Sarah.  “I also forswear all claims to worlds formerly of the Terran Hegemony.”
This clearly shocked Sarah.  She looked at him and nodded.  “My people have dreamt of a day when we could rebuild our nation.  We know that this is not to be the case.  One thing we can do is build a new nation and we will look into that when this conflict is over.  Until then let’s leave all talk of this for those later days.”  She said quietly.  Then she cleared her throat.  “I have a confession to make.  And it has to do with why I invited the Clans to the summit.”
She looked around and met all of their eyes.  “My Intelligence people have been working Clan contacts for some time.  Its how we got most of our Clan equipment and the new OmniMechs we have been manufacturing.”  She said filling them in.  “These contacts are a secret society within their scientist caste.  Oddly enough they call themselves The Society.”  She said shaking her head and getting chuckles from those at the table.
“We have recently broken off contact with them following a most gruesome discovery.”  She activated a command at her place at the table and monitors began playing footage of a lab.  “This is a genetics laboratory hidden in the periphery as part of the Society.  At first we simply thought they were just tweaking the normal genetic codes of the warriors who would be gestated.  What we discovered was much worse.”  The images switched to a room full of children.  They were playing, it switched again to show what looked like days later when some were clearly sick and limping around or laying on beds around the room.  The next image showed half the children dead while the other half healthy unharmed.  “They are developing viruses to target specific gene codes and to slaughter the most aggressive blood houses of the Clans.”
The image switched again to a scene of a Temeraire frigate in orbit a lone object jettisoned from it and accelerated away from the ship on its own propellant.  Then a second and third were launched towards the surface.  After about thirty seconds a fourth was launched.  The image switched again to a magnified image of a facility surrounded by jungle the first missile impacted and exploded.  Followed by the next two.  The people could be seen rushing about in all directions trying to get away from the bombardment.  The building was cracked open and a crater extended down into the subterranean rooms and passageways.  That was with the fourth missile raced in and disappeared into the depths of the facility.  A moment later the ground heaved towards the sky and a bright flash of light was expelled from the openings.  A four additional nuclear missiles raced into impact around the facility to ensure the incineration of the deadly viruses and their creators.
“Shortly afterwards our ship was engaged by a pair of Society dropships and a small warship.  All were defeated and she left the system.  Returning to a forward naval station we operate in that region.”  Sarah finished.
“My God.”  Victor mumbled.  Several people joined him in nodding his agreement.
“This was not the only location we were able to find.  They brought us to this one.  We found two additional genetics labs in the Falcon Occupation Zone that were run by their former Scientist-General Etienne.  Others back in the Homeworlds were dedicated to combat vehicles, weapons research and OmniMechs.  We have yet to find them and also my access to our agents in that region has been cut off.  I have sent a ship to extract them and find out what happened, but I fear the Society have initiated their plans.”  Sarah reported.
“This knowledge could force the Clans to unit and conduct a Trial of Annihilation against you.”  Focht said.
Sarah was nodding her agreement.  “Yes, it could.  But I believe the Homeworld Clans have been busy slaughtering themselves in something called the Reaving.”

Khan Vlad Wad held his tongue as Khan Pryde tore into this Sarah.  He thought about what he just learned.  This Society, under their noses all this time.  Khan Jorgensson likewise was quiet.  Although he didn’t have the problems this Society would bring to some of the more aggressive Clans.
“Like I said Khan Pryde the reason there is no proof is because my Captain nuked the site from orbit.  It was the only way to be sure.  We had to make sure that those viruses were destroyed.  I do not think we got all of them, however, I am willing to hunt the Society to the ends of time to make up for the aide we gave them.  I also have a list of what we provided them.”  Sarah said cutting off the Falcon Khan.  “I am not here to fight with you but If I must, I will.  I just so happen to be fighting half of the Com Guard, a much larger Word of Blake and about a third of the Free World’s League all at the same time.”  Sarah argued.
Victor had asked to be present when Sarah informed the Clans of what her Father had done.  With him was Anastasius Focht who was respected by the Clans for his command of the Battle of Tukayyid.  One of the things that even Duchess Ryan didn’t expect was the arrival of the Diamond Sharks, Snow Ravens and Hell’s Horses.  Khan West of the Nova Cats had arrived with Coordinator Kurita as per the request of Duchess Ryan bringing a DropShip full of personnel also at her request.
“Khan Pryde,” Vlad found himself saying “I think we should hear out our host.”
Martha stopped turning to look at Vlad.  The fury in her deflated as she realized her emotions had gotten the better of her for once.  “Very well Wolf Khan.”  She said then looked back at Sarah.  “Ok Sarah, what is your proposal that is supposed to make all of this better.”  She said waving her hand around to take in the whole universe.  Which just so happened to be one big dumpster fire.
Sarah relaxed a minute and thought about it.  “Included in your datapackets are the locations of all known Society cells in the Inner Sphere and the few back in the Homeworlds we were able to find.  The interesting thing is that the Falcons, Wolves and Ghost Bears have few if no active cells.  Nova Cat has some, but most have distanced themselves from the main network or are working against the Combine’s attempt at taking over the Nova Cat’s research teams.”  Sarah said.  “I have also included the list of equipment.  Besides a large supply of OmniMechs built to their specifications and Elemental battle armor.  They received Aerospace fighters, DropShips and four large Warships which could be used as Arks to keep their cells mobile and functional for years.  They could use them as the basis of a new civilization if they chose to flee the Homeworlds.  The specs of these ships are included.  I have chosen to keep the last two completed and will finish out construction of two more.”
The Diamond Shark Khan Barbara Sennet leaned forward, she had been reading the documents and looked at the two vessels which had been completed.  The design intrigued her.  “Duchess Ryan.”  She began getting the Hegemony leaders attention as none of the other Khans had used her last name or title.  “My Clan would be interested in these ships.  Please could you tell me more about them?”
Sarah called up the data.  “Of course, Khan Sennet.  They were completed to Society spec and are two-million tons, fifteen hundred meters long.  Clad in over thirty-five hundred tons of Lamellor Ferro-carbide armor.  Lithium-Fusion batteries of course.  All equipped with HPG’s and Naval Comm-Scanners.  They carry eight-one fighters, thirty-six small craft and over two-hundred tons of cargo.  Equipped with a mobile factory unit and a reinforced repair bay capable of holding up to one-hundred tons.”
“And they carry thirty-eight DropShips quaiff?”  Sennet asked.
“Aff, Khan Sennet.  They do indeed.”  Sarah said others around the table looking at her shocked.  “They have a genetics repository, and full Sibko facilities.  Each one of these could ensure the survival of a clan.”
Khan McKenna spoke up.  “I would try and trial for these, but I do not believe I have the personnel to crew them.”  She said.
Sarah asked a question.  One that shook even the Inner Sphere observers.  “I have to ask you all.  What is going on in the Homeworlds?”
The Khans all shifted uncomfortably.  “All of the Inner Sphere Clans have been abjured and they are in the throes of madness.”  These were the words spoken by Khan Bjorn Jorgensson.  His silence broken.
“The Snake Alliance is sweeping through the Clans and destroying everything.”  Spoke Khan James Cobb the Horse Khan.  “We cannot evacuate fast enough.  They have unleashed total war in the Homeworlds.  ilKhan Brett Andrews of the Steel Vipers is destroying all that Nicholas Kerensky built.”
“What is this Snake Alliance?”  Victor found himself asking.
Vlad would answer that question.  “Clan’s Steel Viper, Star Adder and Cloud Cobra have allied themselves into a power block and combined their fleets in order to crush any opposition.”
“The Vipers built a Leviathan.”  McKenna said causing Jorgensson to snap his head around.
“They did what?”  He was shocked.
“They built a Leviathan Prime.”  McKenna repeated.  “They destroyed the Lum garrison fleet with it.”  She said quietly.
Focht cleared his throat getting their attention.  “Correct me if I am wrong but it seems like the Homeworld Clans are trying to push you out and either absorb or destroy everything you have there.”
Vlad answered for the gathering.  “That would be correct.”  He said.
“Form a new Grand Council, band together and coordinate your withdraw.  I will trial for the use of Com Guard fleet assets to assist with your withdraw from the Homeworlds to the Inner Sphere.”  Focht suggested.  “What assets I can guarantee are not part of the Word of Blake by now.”
“I will also place up for trial assets to help with the move.  Placed under the Grand Council’s command until you have made it out of the Homeworlds.”  Sarah said.
“May we have the room?”  Martha asked.
“Of Course.”  Sarah said and motioned to Victor and Focht to leave with her.
As Sarah reached the door Vlad spoke up.  “If you would, could you summon Khan West to us?”  Vlad asked shocking Sarah.
“I’ll notify him personally.”  Sarah promised.

Continued

Five hours later, the House lords and Sarah were requested to join the Khans in the conference room.  When the doors slid shut Khan Lynn McKenna stood from her position at the table.  “Thank you all for coming.  Precentor Martial Focht, we took your advice.  In the last five hours we have formed a new Grand Council and planned the orderly withdraw of our Clans from the Homeworlds.”  She waved a hand at the Shark Khan.  “Khan Sennet and I have been selected to organize the movement of ships and Khan Ward is responsible for the defense of ground assets until the withdraw is complete.”
Victor asked the question that everyone else was wondering.  “Who did you pick to be the new ilKhan?”
Vlad spoke up before anyone could say anything.  “I nominated Khan Kell, of my estranged brethren.”
Duchess Allard-Liao spoke up for the first time.  “You did what?”  She said exasperated.
“I nominated Khan Kell.  While I have considered the exiled Wolves as traitors and harbored a dislike of the Freebirth Spheroid.”  Vlad began
“That is putting it mildly Khan Ward.”  Focht said knowingly eliciting a smile from the Wolf Khan.
Vlad continued on.  “I grew to respect Ulric Kerensky and Khan Kell has been a good leader and fair in his dealings with us over the years since the split.”
“So, who’s going to tell him?”  Victor asked.
“We will in a joint message to be delivered by Duchess Ryan’s people if she would do us the honor.”  Khan Jorgensson said.
“I would be honored to.  What is your plan to move your people from the Homeworlds?”  Sarah continued.
“That falls to me.  I would like to trial for the assistance of Hegemony heavy lift assets for the upcoming operation.”  Khan Sennet.
Sarah considered that and she thought hard.  “I have two heavy transport squadrons available and will provide escorts for the transports.”  She looked at Focht.  “That is in addition to the ships you will receive from the Com Guard.”
By this time Precentor Dow was livid.  “Is no one going to ask the Primus or the sitting Precentor Martial on how we feel about this?”
Sarah looked at them.  “Your Guards are either dead, traitors or falling back with my forces trying to hold a perimeter against the Blakist.  No one has heard from your Second Fleet or your facility at Ross 248.  Second Squadron is basically an Auxiliary of my Third Fleet and refused your orders to return to Com Star control.  My communications people are moving in to assume control of pretty much every HPG in the Commonwealth as the network went offline and your people are turning out to be sympathizing with the very people out to destroy them.  Also, I’m pretty sure your Precentor ROM has been a Blakist planet this whole time.”  Sarah leveled her eyes at him.  “So no, I’m not going to ask you for permission when both myself and Focht have effective control of the remaining Com Guard forces who are not trying to murder everyone in the Inner Sphere.”
Sarah’s expression softened.  “Precentor Martial Dow, you are an honorable man and do your people proud.  ComStar is finished.  This war is evidence of that fact.  Estimates have us fighting around fifty plus divisions of Word of Blake troops alone.  Add to that the twenty-five divisions that joined them, the ten or so League regiments and the scores of Mercenaries and we are fighting one of the great houses who like us back in ’57 didn’t have to worry about defending large swaths of territory.”  Sarah sat back down.  “We are at a disadvantage due to the dispersion of our forces due to the needs to defending territory.”
Dow sufficiently chastened sat back in his seat and deflated.  “I apologize for my outburst Duchess.  You are quite correct.  We are finished.”
Sarah returned to the discussion of supporting the Clans.  “I will assign both squadrons to the mission and as many DropShips as I can spare.  I will also send one escort Squadron with them.  My intelligence reported that the Raven fleet is battered.  Some of your forces are in good order but the rest need repairs.  This will support the Raven fleet adding another two stars to your ORBAT.”
Khan McKenna spoke up.  “We will have the Wolf and Falcon fleets to assist.  While the Ghost Bears and the Nova Cat’s deploy to cover our occupation zones.  This level of coordination has not been seen amongst the Clans since Operation Klondike.”  She looked around.  “My flagship for the operation will be the GBS Leviathan.”  She said nodding to Khan Jorgensson.  “Send escorts if you must but the fighting will be led by Clan vessels.”
“We are each sending a Galaxy of troops to help defend our people on the ground while we extract them.  Those combined with our remaining forces in the Homeworlds will be sufficient for out needs of delaying the Snake Alliance and the others until we have completed our withdraw.”  The Wolf Khan reported.
“All that is left is to figure out what the rest of us are going to do with the Word of Blake?”  Coordinator Kurita asked.
“Yes Theodore-sama.”  Victor answered.  “I have forces preparing to retake both Tharkad and New Avalon.  I can surge some help towards Luthien if you need it old friend.”  Victor said looking at Theodore and Hohiro.
“That would be helpful, however, the Kokuryu-kai would just use that as more justification of my Father and I’s dishonor and inability to lead the Combine to glory.”  Hohiro answered receiving a nod from Theodore.
“Something needs to be done.”  Candice Allard-Liao said.
“Yes.”  Theodore said.  “We have identified several loyal commands and are preparing to assault Luthien to break the siege.”
“Is there anything we can do?”  Sarah asked waving her hands around.
“Send an envoy and escort a representative of the Dragon to the Azami.  This fighting needs to stop.  We have plans to make things right, but we need them.  We cannot let our nation fracture more than it has.”  Theodore continued.  “The Azami were wronged gravely by the Kokuryu-kai.  This must be set right.”
“I will send what I can.”  Sarah agreed.
“No,” Focht spoke up “I will go.”
Sarah looked and nodded.  “Ok.  Is that good for you Theodore?”
   “Yes, thank you.”  Theodore responded.
“Our next subject.  The Free World’s League.”  She said looking towards Thomas Halas.
“Its dead.  I can speak for the Duchy of Oriente and possibly the Marik Commonwealth.  However, Corinne Marik is gathering the remnants of the Marik Commonwealth, Duchy of Graham-Marik and the Stewart Commonality under one banner.”  Thomas was saddened.  “I am not hopeful.”
“Between the Confederation, Magistracy and the Commonwealth we should be able to contain the Word of Blake within the League.”  Sun-Tzu said receiving a nod from Victor and his hand squeezed by Naomi.
“We will sortie out of the March when we identify Blakist positions.  I would like your consent now to be able to target Word of Blake units in every nation.  We will not operate without impunity.  We will identify the position and invite along local forces should there be any to participate.”  Sarah proposed.
“Granted,” Sun-Tzu agreed “I will also assign two regiments to your command for that purpose alone.”
“The St. Ives Compact likewise assigns the 2ND Janissaries.”  Candice Allard-Liao offered.
“Take your pick of the FedCom RCT’s in the Sarna March.”  Victor said shrugging knowing that he had already given Sarah command of all forces assigned to the March.
“I will assign a regiment possibly two when I can determine their loyalty.”  Theodore promised.
“Until then I will assign a Cluster to that end.”  Khan West said receiving a nod from Theodore.
“Very well I will establish liaison positions with each of your militaries as well.”  Sarah said walking around the table.  “We need to coordinate our responses not just against the Word of Blake but also against the Clans back in the Homeworlds.  These events are all linked.  It may not be apparent now, but I feel that the Word of Blake triggered this in some way.”  She stopped at the head before the main viewer in the conference room.  “There is a force at play within the galaxy that is driving events and we must work together in order to stop it.  Should we fail, we will all be pushed into a Dark Age I fear we will not recover from and we will be at the mercies of a maniacal power for which will make the Word of Blake look like nuns of old.”
Sarah placed her hands on the table and leaned over it.  “Do not get me wrong this isn’t the beginning of some merry band of idiots, a third Star League or a unified single government.  We are going to have our problems; we are going to fight each other.  But right now, in this time we need to work together to defeat the threat at hand.  Should we fail to do that we will not survive.”

Parlin
Colorado, North America
Terra, Terran System
22 April 3066

Parlin sat eighteen kilometers east of Gunnison, the current site of the most organized point of resistance on Terra with the exception of the fighting in South America.  Elements of the 1ST BattleMech and 4TH Mechanized Infantry Divisions were dug in across the Rockies.  Brigadier General Bianca Mathews sat in her field command post as she sipped her coffee and watched the updates from the scouts.  Her combined force of the 1ST Armored Cavalry, 10TH Light Cavalry and the 201ST Com Guard Division were reduced to two reinforced combined arms regiments of effectives.  A trail of devastation had been left across the Great Plains from Salina to the Rocky Mountains.  Her three commands had faced twice their initial numbers over the course of the last few weeks.  Three Blakist Militia Divisions and two regiments of mercenaries and then the dreaded 51ST Shadow Division when it arrived.
The 4TH Cavalry and the 34TH Striker Regiments had been hammered with the arrival of two fresh Com Guard Divisions which landed inside of a perimeter secured by the Hegemony troops and guided by the remains of two TerraSec battalions.  The Com Guards marched off of their transports, formed up and then began destroying everything in sight.  The event almost saw the destruction of the 104TH and 201ST Com Guard Divisions if it wasn’t for Mathews and Corbin who vouched for them having fought alongside the entire time.
Once the traitorous Com Guards had been identified the 82ND Jump Infantry’s, 821ST Brigade was destroyed in Mongolia while its remaining brigade crossed the Atlantic and joined with the 1ST CAAN to evacuate Hilton Head and the eastern seaboard.  In other words, the whole situation sucked.  Gunnison had been reinforced by all surviving commands in the western hemisphere.  General Corbin had gone to ground in Amazonia following the destruction of Blakist forces there.
“General Mathews.”  One of her command post NCO’s called to her.
She stood up and walked into the main tactical operations center – TOC – and found the source of the call.  A young sergeant sitting at a table with a hand mic to his head and a pen writing notes down as fast as he could.
“What is it Garry?”  She asked.
He finished his writing and looked up.  “Ma’am, General Corbin made linkup with the Central American TerraSec force and they are crossing the Rio Grande now.”
Mathews nodded.  She knew that the Word of Blake would be aiming to cut Corbin off from making linkup with their forces in the Rockies.  “That doesn’t seem to be what you were writing now does it?”  Mathews asked giving him a sidelong look.
“No Ma’am.”  He said handing her the note.  “This was just received by HPG and General Hayden tapped us.”
Mathews read it and shook her head.  “Of Course, he did.”  She said as she turned to leave the command post.  “Tell the brigade staff to assemble and I want all of my commanders here in thirty minutes.”  She said as she stormed out.
Bianca jumped into the utility vehicle assigned to her and drove to Gunnison to make her opinion’s known.  It took her ten minutes to make the drive having to dodge a convoy moving supplies out to her brigade.  She pulled into the Division headquarters at the university’s Mountaineer Field House.  She jumped out engine still running and threw open the doors.  The building was a hive of activity She looked through the building and out through the shattered windows and could see the ground mobile HPG being packed up even as she stormed towards the Division TOC and called out.
“Who’s dumb ****** idea was it to abandon Terra and why?”  Mathews bellowed.
Everything stopped.  You cold hear a mouse fart in that room at that moment.  No one wanted to face General Mathews.  Her command was the only force that had survived the intial bombardments and nuclear strikes to fight the Word of Blake on the open field in both North America and Europe.  Her 1ST Regimental Combat Team had bled to buy time for the rest of the defenders of Terra to rally and fight back.  It was Mathews who saved the rest of the 4TH Infantry as they marched across the southern United States to link up with their division headquarters as they moved into the Rockies. It was her command that secured a ground mobile HPG and called in the Tirpitz from Venus.  Which managed to intercept a Com Guard division moving in to try and secure the Gunnison Castle Brian.  The ADC Drone control ship deployed its squadron of M-3, M-10 and Model 96C DropShips to intercept and destroy the assault force.  It was that ships Voidseeker’s that were ensuring Hegemony and friendly Com Guard fighters had a chance in the air and were not swamped by Blakist craft.
Major General Charles Hayden emerged from his office and waved Mathews over.  “Bianca, calm the hell down.  What is wrong?”  He demanded.
“Why am I getting orders to prepare to lift?”  She accused.
“Because we have lost Terra.  We have broken four Blakist armies here.  But we lost.”  Hayden said with sadness entering his eyes.
“We can hold.  3RD BattleMech can break the siege and we can win.”  Mathews demanded.
“But at what cost?”  He pleaded.
She didn’t have an answer.  “You have your orders direct from the Duchess.  You and your task force lift first and jump with the Tirpitz.  They will drop you and jump back with more DropShips and continue to provide cover with the drones.  The Word of Blake took First Fleet on a merry escapade across the region and they are reforming to swamp the system and provide cover for us on Terra and for the 8TH to lift off of Mars.  We can hold the passes until we get additional transports in here.  But Terra is lost.  There is fighting everywhere with half of the Com Guard joining the fanatics.  Eight other divisions destroyed and twelve siding with us.”
Mathews went to speak, and Hayden held up a hand.  “Do not argue with me.  Tell it to the Duchess you are joining her on Nova California to reorganize and prepare for the next operation.  I hope its to return and kick these ****** off this rock.”  He said.  “I Corps is effectively destroyed.  General Corbin is only moving a few more kilometers north before the 104TH Com Guard and the rest of his force prepares for evacuation as well.”
“And what about you?”  She asked.
“We have the Castle Brian open now and can withdraw into it and hold out for a year or two if we have to.  We are not worried about Nukes anymore as we know about them now.  Chemical and Biological weapons won’t affect us as long as we take the precautions.  No, it is supplies and the determination of the Word of Blake to pry us out which will be the only determining factors if we can hold or not.  But that’s only if we can’t get pulled out.”  Hayden said.
He laid a hand on her shoulder.  “Now get moving Bianca.  I have a regiment of Mechanized infantry and armor moving down to cover your withdraw.  They will hold our sector until you board the DropShips and then they are falling back into the Castle.”
Mathews hung her head.  “Yes sir.”  She said turning to leave.
“And Bianca.”  Hayden said causing her to pause and turn to face him.  “Kick their ****** asses if we don’t get out of this.”
Mathews straightened up to attention and snapped a perfect academy salute.  Which Hayden returned.

Six hours later Mathews and her hodgepodge mixed brigade lifted from the valley north of Gunnison.  She could see out the porthole the Word of Blake lines as they advanced up the passes in the hopes of crushing the last organized resistance on Terra.  To the south she saw another four DropShips lifting.  Then a flash of a nuclear fire.
“What is that.”  Mathews pointed catching the attention of the DropShips commander.
“That was General Corbin nuking all of the equipment they left behind.  They only have people on those ships.”  The ships commander reported.
“We are coming back.”  Mathews said staring out the porthole.

The passenger cabin of the hyper loop was quiet.  She could see her Exterminator strapped to one of the transport cradles on its back as they raced along the secret network from Europe.  Major Maia Jaso was on the hunt.  It was time to link up with Detachment 1113 in North American and pay the 51ST a little visit…

Fort Sherman, Nova California
Terran Hegemony-in-Exile

19 December 3066

The aircraft rolled to a stop and the passenger boarding stair car rolled up to the side of the VIP transport.  The hatch receded in and then slid up and out of the way to be replaced by a pair of stern looking troopers in dress uniform as the stopped at the bottom of the stairs they stepped to either side.  The troops arrayed alongside the ramp were in dress uniform, ranks of Soldiers in their blue dress and the white and gold of the Com Guards.
Sarah Ryan stepped off of the stairs and saluted her guards as she advanced forward to meet Lieutenant General Jacob Corbin and Brigadier General Bianca Mathews.  As she reached the group at the edge of the painted line designating between the ramp and the support areas of the airfield Sarah smiled and returned the salutes of the officers gathered.
“Its good to see you Jacob.  And you Bianca.”  Sarah said shaking both of their hands.
“Duchess Ryan as always it is good to see you.”  Corbin said giving a slight bow.
“Your Grace.”  Mathews said with a bow.
Sarah smiled and shook her head.  “Please.  I’m in uniform and it wasn’t so long ago that you were my commander Bianca.”  Sarah said.
“Oh, how one has fallen, Your Grace.”  Mathews said holding back laughter.
“But you have not fallen at all General.”  Sarah said with sympathy.
“I did not mean myself Your Grace.”  She said letting out the laughter she had been trying to bottle up.
With a look of mock pain Sarah held her hand over her chest.  “Oh, the depths that your dagger can reach Bianca is beyond comprehension.”
The entire group shared a laugh.  Bianca turned towards the two members of the greeting party standing there in silence.  “Your Grace, may I introduce Colonel Flanders of the 10TH and Precentor Marietta Winger senior commander of the 201ST and 104TH Com Guard Divisions.”
Winger saluted the Duchess and accepted her hand when Sarah offered it.  “Precentor, General Corbin tells me you fought very well in South America.”
“She did a hell of a job all the way up through Central America before I made her board transports.”  Corbin interjected.
“Thank you.”  Sarah said catching the Guardsmen off guard.
   “Your Grace?”  She said questioningly.
Sarah gave her back a tight-lipped smile.  “Precentor with the state of the Com Guards as a whole with nearly half of the force joining the Word of Blake and another quarter plus joining us.  We can’t be sure of who we can trust.  I am pretty sure some of the Com Guard that joined the Word of Blake did not go voluntarily.  I am also quite sure that some of the Guard who sided with the coalition did not do it because they wanted to.”
Winger nodded understanding.  “I can vouch for every Guardsmen of my 104TH and the 201ST Divisions that we will not turn.  I would put my side arm to my head and go to Fiddler’s Green first.”  She said looking at Mathews.
“Fiddler’s Green huh?”  Sarah said looking at Mathews.
“What can I say?  When all of the Cav traditions feature getting smashed at a bar and fighting, we seem to attract all the best people.”  Mathews said with a wide smile.
“Oh, I know from experience Bianca.”  Sarah said laughing.
“Shall we troop the line Your Grace?”  Corbin suggested.

Sarah looked up and down the line and saw just how few were left.  This was not the entire combat team.  Just the survivors of Terra.  Those who fought and were pulled off the planet.  The 1ST CAAN was still on Terra fighting a guerrilla war in North and South America operating from mobile sea bases and Hegemony built underwater Castles Brian.  The Gunnison Castle and all of its defenders were dead.  The 51ST Shadow Division managed to breach the perimeter and infiltrated a nuclear weapon into the facility in a convoy of supply vehicles that had managed to secure food and munitions from Fort Carson and hid in the mountains until the rally point had been called.  The base exploded two days after the Mathews and her task force had lifted for the Tirpitz.
The group made it to the base command post and were sitting in a conference room going over readiness reports and other information about the commands being rebuilt.  Sarah watched the numbers scroll across the screen.  She was about to flex on the Word of Blake soon.  This defensive fight was not going to win the war.  She was about to kick off a major ambush by leaking the location of one of the Homeworlds.  A target the Word of Blake could not pass up.  She also had information going out of major factories and stockpiles of weapons, munitions and equipment being readied for shipment to the successor states to bring their military capabilities up to that of the Hegemony.  The bait was so good that She knew the Blakist would be forced to act soon.
“Thank you for bringing me up to date Generals.”  Sarah found herself saying.  “How soon can you get I Corps moving?”
Corbin thought about that.  “I have 3RD BattleMech, 3RD and 8TH Mechanized, 101ST Jump Infantry Divisions all ready to move.  The 1ST and 10TH Cav are both here and fully equipped and manned from the replacement pools.  They have been training hard and will be ready.”
“You don’t get to keep those regiments.  They are being pulled from your command Jake.  I don’t have anything to replace them with right now, but they will only be gone for the next operation at least.  I have something special for them to do.”  Sarah said.
Sarah pulled a palm computer from her uniform pocket and keyed in a code which dumped a file to the rooms display.  She turned to Precentor Winger.  “Your 104TH and Precentor Kearny’s 201ST are assigned to the Twelfth Com Star Army under the command of Precentor Koenigs-Cober.  However, you all are going to operate under the Command of General Mathews as part of Regimental Combat Team One.”
Sarah continued manipulating the data on the screen.  “Together your four commands will garrison Brownsville.  This information is being leaked to the Word of Blake along with the false information of a major buildup of equipment and munitions to be transferred to the Great Houses and friendly Com Guard units.”
“You hope to draw in the Word of Blake with the location of the planet and the units that escaped from Terra?”  Winger asked.
“That is correct.  They will be forced to gather a significant force to breach the system and land on the planet.  They will be told that only your four commands and a reserve division will be on the planet.  A small grouping of Warships will be all that is reported also.  A pair of Star League destroyers and two old Vincent’s will be all that we have to defend the system.  The rest of our Space defense system is offline as we are moving a pair of battle stations in and bringing in drones.  The information will give a timeline for June for the activation of the defenses.  Until then we are grossly understrength with our navy stretched thin.”  Sarah finished.
“We are bait then Your Grace?”  Mathews asked.
“Yes, you all and the eight regiments of equipment that will be transferred to the coalition.”  Sarah said.  “Which will not be on planet.  Just some underground bunkers with old Succession Wars equipment left over from when the Legion and the Hoplites were active.”
Mathews thought about it a bit.  “That is very doable, devious.  I like it Your Grace.”

December 3066 - April 3067

Across the Inner Sphere, Coalition forces began fighting back in a coordinated manner.  New Avalon saw the Archon Prince arrive with a large Naval Battlegroup and several supporting ground commands.  The battle in near Avalonian space was fierce but the three ships of the Word of Blake attack force were destroyed along with all of their modified Pocket Warships.

Over Tharkad General Adam Steiner led a joint force of FedCom, Wolf-in-Exile and Jade Falcon supported by two Hegemony independent regiments to liberate the Lyran State Capital.  The fighting on the ground was quick once their Warship support was run off.

Luthien saw a join Nova Cat and Ghost Bear ground force arrive along with the 1ST Genyosha to begin the liberation of the planet from the three way war being waged on the surface.  The fighting flared up with the arrival of Clan forces and the situation remains in the balance.

On Sian, Confederation, Compact, Canopian and Hegemony forces fought a Word of Blake army supporting two Thugee staffed Manei Domini Warrior Houses.  The fighting still continues though the Word of Blake have been pushed to the outskirts of the capital.

The Expeditionary force to evacuate the Inner Sphere Clans from the Homeworlds is underway and Khans Lynn McKenna and Barbara Sennet are leading the fleet making their way to the Kerensky Cluster aboard the Ghost Bear Warship Leviathan.  The transport assets provided by the Hegemony having been repainted in Diamond Shark and Snow Raven colors would not fool the Snake Alliance for long.  The Clans hoped they would arrive in time to be able to save what they could.

Across the Inner Sphere the Word of Blake reinforced by the Com Guards are waging Jihad upon those that would keep them from fulfilling the Third Transfer of power.  The War is heating up, Hegemony Intelligence is searching for the Word of Blake's logistics base and supply Nodes.  They have to be getting support from somewhere other than the Free World's League.  Where did they get all of their new forces from.  If anyone knows how to build an army and hide in plain sight it would be the Terran Hegemony-in-Exile.

Major General Marcus Briggs reviewed the battle plan for his Division when the alert would finally go out.  He had his Division aboard DropShips equipment stowed all they needed to do was lift off of the surface and dock with the transports holding at the L1 point.  Across the table from his sat Precentor XI Lisa Koenigs-Cober, newest commander of 12TH Com Guard Army.  Having executed Precentor Allian Higham on Tukayyid we he tried to take the Army and join with the Word of Blake.  Briggs was impressed with the Precentor; she was not only a very capable commander from the reports of one Colonel Bianca Mathews from the fighting on Terra back in ’58.  She was also diplomatically skilled as she managed to convince the Wolves and Ghost Bears that while the Twelfth Army was pulling out of the Free Rasalhague Republic to fight the fanatics she would return and make any gains they exploited more costly than any Clan Trial would allow for.
Koenigs-Cober had at her command two of the best divisions in the Guards.  The 278TH under Precentor Eduard Karen and her own 472ND.  Combined with his 1ST Cavalry Division and the squadron of Warships in orbit he planned to make the Word of Blake pay greatly for their actions.  Now it was time to train together and shake out the dust.
“It looks like RCT 1 will be touching down on Brownsville in about four days.  That should give them about a month before I expect the Blakist will begin hearing of the rumors.”  Briggs said.
Lisa thought about that for a moment.  “Yes, that sounds about right.  Do you really think they will go for it?”
“Would you if you didn’t already know it was a trap?”  Briggs countered.  “I know eight regiments of equipment is a lot but it’s not all BattleMechs.”  He added.
“I would be skeptical.  Even with it being retired Star League equipment to make way for your new OmniMechs.”  Lisa responded.  “I would go for it.  If anything, to try and get information on where the rest of your Homeworlds were.  That would be my primary goal.”
“That is what we are counting on.”  Briggs said.

Fleet Rally Point
Groombridge 1618
Federated Commonwealth
03 May 3067

The fleet floated in space in the uninhabited system.  The strike had been planned in depth.  This was not an assault to take a star system.  This was to be a raid to cause as much devastation on the military infrastructure on the target system.  The Word of Blake planned for the Terran Navy to be sitting in the Homeworlds in the defense since the evacuation of the Terran System.  All three Battle Squadrons and the Hegemony Command Group’s Fleet Command Division were assembled and ready for their attack.  Five Battleships, four Fleet Carriers, seven Heavy Cruisers, three Light Cruisers and eighteen destroyers.  Additionally, three ADC control ships would accompany the raid to provide expendable assets to tie up the Word of Blake and its allies.
Fleet Admiral Candice Mancuso was about to launch forty warships into the target system and bring hellfire down upon those who would unleash weapons of mass destruction on her people.  This would be repayment for the battles of Marik and Atreus.  The first to jump were the battle wagons, the five Battleships of the fleet.  Followed quickly by the destroyers as they filtered into the system quickly.  The cruisers were next and then finally the carriers and the modified Potemkin’s.

Terran System
Word of Blake Protectorate

Fleet Admiral Mancuso on her flag bridge tapped a key at her console and her face lit up with the holographic recording lights as her image was being beamed by HPG to Terra, Mars, Venus, Titan, the Belter communities.  All through the use of her ships multiple HPG’s and high bandwidth laser communications links between the ships.  The Word of Blake HPG’s throughout the system were highjacked by the Terran Navy using ancient overrides dating back to the days of their first construction.  The systems were linked into long forgotten communications networks and transmitted around the local stellar objects and stations via fiber optic data links.
The end result was every device capable of receiving the signal received it without the ability of being jammed or locked out.  Mancuso’s face appeared everywhere.  Including the rubble of the Hilton Head complex where Cameron St. Jamais and Primus Blane were reviewing reconstruction times.
“To the inhabitants of the Sol System.  I am Fleet Admiral Candice Mancuso of the Terran Navy.  I am here now within the star system to bring you a warning.  Evacuate all military industrial facilities throughout the system.  Do not assist the Word of Blake in any way.  We have not forgotten you.  Those who we swore to defend, to safeguard from the night.  This is only the beginning, this is only the start of the Blakists Ragnarök, for we are its harbingers.  We are the death that awaits those that would use nuclear, biological and chemical weapons upon the world of our species birth.  For we will seek revenge on those that defend the vile.”
Those gathered around the two Blakist leaders all exchanged looks with one another and continued to listen.
“We stand here on the precipice.  We can continue to hide in the shadows and fear advancement in everywhere or we can throw off the shackles of these would be slavers and say never again.”
Mancuso’s face looked around as if she was peering into the souls of all those watching.  Making judgment upon them for their deeds and actions in life.
“There comes a time, when a Woman must spit on her hands, hoist the black flag…”

“and begin to slit throats.”  Mancuso finished cutting the links and opening up the fleet command net.  “All commands, this is Mancuso.  Hoist the black flag.”  She said.  Turning to her repeater to her flag captain who was in the CIC she smiled.  “Alright Doug, set the cam-plates to special six.”
“Aye, aye Ma’am.”  Commodore Douglas Mitchell responded.  He turned to someone off screen and repeated.  “Cam-plates to special six!”
All around the fleet the hulls shifted color from the normal drab paint scheme of the Terran Navy to a new color scheme.  Crimson, with black squares across the hulls of the Jolly Roger.  The feet lit off their drives and began the burn to their targets.  One group of ships jumped form the fleet location two days burn from Terra to Titan.  Once in range the warships unleashed their Drone escorts and all of their combat DropShips and fighters.  They began to wreck the Blakist warships located there.  Not intending to capture the facility they began the whole sale destruction of the site following a brief boarding operation by Terran Marines to evacuate the Terran and Belter workers trapped on the stations due to the Word of Blake’s orders.

Admiral Rinehart watched as his squadron ripped through the stations and left nothing to be salvaged.  He had destroyed a Blakist Eagle and a pair of Pinto corvettes that had been undergoing repairs when he arrived.  The squadron was fast charging their drives to prepare for their exit from the system.

Mancuso watched as a squadron of eight Word of Blake ships.  She noticed most of them were former Com Guard ships broke orbit to come out and meet her much larger fleet.  Just as she thought of that another squadron jumped away to the Belt.  They were off to remove a destroyer and a squadron of DropShips that were trying to press the Belter shipyards into the service of the Word.  Today we burn the heavens, tomorrow we salt the earth…

Andromache Asteroid
Jupiter L5, Terran System
WOB Occupation Zone
04 May 3067

Colonel Martin Yu watched as his assault shuttles and the DropShips supporting his regiment blasted free of the THS Renewed Valor.  The 11TH Battle Squadron was assigned to support the Belters as they moved in to engage a Word of Blake Baron class destroyer which had seized the Mercator-Campion Shipyards in the Andromache asteroid of Jupiter’s L5 Lagrange point.  The squadron was deploying an entire Battalion of Marines to this one station with the rest of the regiment being spread around to the other stations and habitats.
As his Mk. VIIb shuttle raced in under the protective guns of the Valor and an entire wing of aerospace fighters the ten shuttles arrived at the Andromache asteroid and set down on the exterior.  Two Hundred and fifty marines disembarked from the shuttles and moved to the hidden exterior airlocks known to the Hegemony from their centuries of working alongside the Belters.
The Marines swarmed through the airlocks cycling in ten at a time.  The first four in at every lock were Nighthawk equipped Marines in order to hold the locks for as long as possible.  The rest were wearing standard Marine Corps combat skin suits.  A full company was aboard before the first shots were fired.  The Word of Blake troops were woefully under-prepared for a fight in zero atmosphere like the Belters and Marines were.  The Belters had dropped the pressure to zero and only ran the recycling systems and other life support functions in the bastions spread throughout the asteroid.  Each time the Marines found a bastion, they would mark it and deploy a squad in its defense before moving on.  The first engagement was at the site of one of these bastions when a squad from Barvo Company ran into a Level I of Blakist infantry trying to gain access to the bastion through its disabled airlock.  When the Blakist infantry was about to force the outer hatch of the lock a Marine Corporal opened up with his pulse laser rifle.
The fighting throughout the facility was brutal. Blakist and Marines fought and died on every level, in every section.  Colonel Yu was standing in an atrium as a squad of Marines in Elemental armor moved forward to support a platoon fighting in a greenhouse against a Blakist squad of Battle Armor.  The Marines were well prepared.  Regular infantry to move fast and secure ground, Nighthawk powered armor for the harder objectives and then finally the Elemental suits for the heavier fighting.  He even had his engineers moving through behind the combat troops to repair damaged infrastructure and make sure the habitats were safe to pressurize and support life.
“Raider Six, this is long glass 2.”  The radio crackled and clicked as the signal was pumped through relays from the long glass communications relays on the surface of the asteroid who were in direct contact with the Squadron.
“Long glass 2, Raider Six send it.”  He responded.
“Message from Valor Actual.  Rest of operation proceeding.  Leaving two destroyers and the Heracles in support.  Moving squadron to point Macon for Phase 2.  Good Hunting.”  Long glass 2 reported.
“Roger, send to Valor.  Estimate we will have objective secured in the next two hours.  Request deployment of package Gamma and then fleet assets can pull out of port.”  Yu ordered.  He was the ground forces commander on site and therefor the mission commander in this area.  Just like his counterpart Colonel O’Connor would be at the squadron’s next objective.

THS Texas
Terra, Terran System
WOB Occupation Zone
05 May 3067

The fighting was vicious.  Lasers, particle cannons and naval autocannon crisscrossed the battlespace.  The fleets two Ark Royal carriers had launched nearly three hundred drone fighters to hammer back the Word of Blake’s aerospace screen that swarmed up from the surface.  The human pilots’ wings from the two carriers were heavily invested in seeking out Blakist targets in orbit while DropShips spread out to open up the secured local space more.  That was when ground based defensive batteries opened up and scored several hits.  The most telling was the THS Avalon taking a number of heavy laser and particle cannon hits as she vented atmosphere and was being towed into a higher more stable orbit by fleet tugs.
Admiral Mancuso watched the display showing the Word of Blake bases emptying of ground troops expecting an orbital bombardment similar to the 41ST Battle Squadron’s strike on Mars against the 7TH Word of Blake Division which had been gassing the population of Mars that refused to submit to Blakist rule.  The 41ST Marine Infantry Regiment was already on the surface and securing the domed cities while the 4TH Marine Expeditionary Force was readying itself for long term deployment in the system once the fleet leaves following operations at Terra.
The last Word of Blake ship to survive the fleets passage was a new build Dante-class frigate secured from the Titan yards and made ready.  The unknown ship of her class faced off with the cruisers Doolin and Killarney as they swooped in to screen the Texas from the ships suicidal charge.  The ship was hulled, venting atmosphere and in a high G spin as it moved off to be captured by Luna’s gravity.  The system was indeed empty.  The previous reports of a Blakist fleet of fifteen plus warships in system showed this was no longer the case.
“Now Amanda, why would the Word of Blake, after going through all of the trouble to push us and Com Star off of Terra leave it so undefended?”  Mancuso asked to her aide with a knowing look.
“I have no idea Admiral.”  Commander Amanda Beckwith responded with a smile on her face.
“Good luck, Mathews.  You are going to need it.”  Mancuso whispered.

System Defense Command
Brownsville System
Terran Hegemony-in-Exile
Federated Commonwealth
06 May 3067

Vice Admiral Herman Gonzalez watched from his office as the symbols that represented the defense stations around the zenith jump point.  He was Aerospace Defense Commands trouble shooter.  If anyone had more experienced in drone combat, they were not in the Hegemony Armed Forces.  He had ensured the layered defensive systems in place in Brownsville were capable of the mission at hand.  The survivors of the Word of Blake’s Second Fleet from the Battle of Marik were in system and baring down on the planet and the two destroyers in system acting as the systems only major defense force.
Eighteen Blakist warships were cautiously moving into the system.  Gonzalez’s face turned into a vicious smile as he watched the symbols marking the Blakist fleet crossed the line of commitment.  They were committed or would be forced to burn a lot of fuel in breaking off their dive towards Brownsville.
“SysOps, send the activation code.  Bring all units along approach axis Delta from defensive to neutral.”  Gonzalez ordered.
“Aye sir, sending activation code, bringing all drones along axis delta to neutral stance.”  A lieutenant responded.
The stations HPG thrummed as it fired its pulse towards the zenith point.  Fifteen minutes later the symbols began populating on the systems master control holo-tank.  Twelve points of light illuminated followed shortly after by another two dozen.  Ten minutes later the last six icons glowed blue.
“Admiral, all drones are reporting Condition One and in neutral mode.”  The lieutenant at the console reported.
“Very well.  Send to control platform three, move division three to point Epsilon.”  Gonzalez ordered.  He was watching the big picture.  Time to begin planning moves two and three steps down the road.  In about thirty minutes the Word of Blake would spot the thermal blooms of the ships powering up and beginning to maneuver into formation.  It was time to setup what will happen following when contact was made.
“Aye sir, sending to control platform three, move division three to point Epsilon.”  She repeated.
The crews aboard the Howdah command ship would be crossing over to the Drones in their area to shut down the delicate SDS Drone Control Systems and securing them for travel.  With each Howdah was a pair of Longstreet pocket warships detailed to protect the vulnerable control ships.  The icons went grey into their dormant status as human crews boarded the ships.  The coordinates saved and updated each time the ships were stopped the drones with their human operators aboard jumped twenty minutes later to another point in the system a bit closer to Brownsville and slightly off approach axis of the Blakist battlegroup.
The ships were met by another Howdah and a pair of Longstreet’s which received the jump teams and sent the activation codes to the recently arrived drones.  Having known this would be an issue, Gonzalez had prepositioned another support squadron at that location.  Twelve icons glowed joining the six present followed by another three ten minutes later.
“All units report operational and are set to neutral sir.”  Lieutenant Sanders reported.
“Very well, order point Epsilon to begin maneuvering towards the Tango’s.  Have primary group go to independent and set priority target for the Thera, followed by the two cruisers.”  Gonzalez added.
“Aye sir, group one set to independent and priority targets are Thera, Agamemnon and Aegis.”  Sanders responded.
The HPG burst pumped out one following the other.  The crew aboard Fort Alamo watched as the Word of Blake continued in system crawling unawares of what they were walking into.

Precentor Carson Wheeler scratched at his collar.  Formerly Vice Admiral Wheeler of the Free Worlds League Navy and commander of the now renamed WoBS Corinth.  There were days during this war that he regretted his decision to side with the Word of Blake.  He knew that if he didn’t, he was sure to have died when the sleepers and Blakist communications officers activated their plans to seize as many Warships of the League fleet as they could.  He knew he was not in command of this operation.  The man selected by Precentor Naval Zwick was with him on the flag bridge.
This dumb bastard thinks that this whole operation is going to be as easy as taking the jump point.  Wheeler thought to himself.  It was just too easy.
“…I’m expecting to get hammered here soon Precentor.”  Demi-Precentor Martin Kovač the Corinth’s Captain was in a heated debate with Precentor XVI Jian Hsu a native of Terra and a lifelong member of both Com Star and Word of Blake.  This man was overconfident in Word of Blake’s technological superiority against anyone outside of the order.
“Demi Kovač, we have seen no sign of the Heretics being ready for us or even defending this system with anything more than the two ships in planetary orbit.”  Hsu responded and to his credit in a calm collected tone.
“STATUS CHANGE!”  Shouted one of the sensor techs watching his console intently.
   “Report.”  Wheeler ordered calmly.
“I have twelve capital signatures in the 600-kiloton range about thirty-five light minutes out.”  The sensor tech reported.
The icons began to appear in the holo-tank in the center of the flag bridge.  “They are still about four days away.  At current thrust.”  Wheeler said aloud.
“I don’t think they will just wait for us to join them.”  Kovač said sarcastically.
They watched the displays for another thirty minutes and they determined the twelve destroyers and the twenty-eight dropships escorting them were approaching at two gravities of acceleration.  They were pushing hard and would make contact if they kept their current acceleration in five hours.
He looked at the fleet roster and he had a carrier, two heavy cruisers, four frigates, eight destroyers and three corvettes.  Forty-three DropShips filled the collars half of those were fleet defense ships the rest were dedicated to the landing force.  The fleet aerospace fighter force numbered three-hundred and fifty fighters not including those assigned to the ground force aboard their own transports.
“They will be swatted from the skies.”  Precentor Hsu spoke quietly.
Wheeler and Kovač shared a look.
“STATUS CHANGE!”  Called another sensor tech.
The holo-tank began populating more icons.  “Paint me a picture Ms. Němeček.”  Wheeler calmly ordered.
“Admiral, I am detected six additional destroyer class vessels and what looks like another fifteen DropShips in support.”  The young tech said slipping and using his old rank.  He missed his old rank.  The choices he had made.  He should have just jumped in a lifeboat and took his chances in space with a third of his air wing when they abandoned him over Clipperton.
“Very well Ms. Němeček.  Thank you for the report.”  Wheeler said ignoring Hsu’s look.  He would have to find a way to shield that young crewman from ROM.  He was not about to have his crew, who for the most part joined him because he asked them to.
“Precentor Hsu, I recommend at contact minus one-hour we conduct DropShip separation and at minus thirty minutes I want to have all of our fighters in space and formed up.  This will give us plenty of time to begin maneuvering and possibly take the initiative.”  Wheeler suggested turning to the Fleet Commander.  This man is an idiot.
Hsu, to his credit deferred to Wheeler on almost everything.  Having been the most senior commander left out of the 2ND Fleet officers that survived the Battle of Marik he was incompetent to put it mildly.  How he managed to get his cruiser clear of the fighting he would never know.
“I concur, we will have the fleet loosen up its formation in order to better unmask our weapons for this formation.  While they may be destroyers I do not like the look of them.  Something seems off.  They have been burning at too high of thrust for too long to make this seem like a normal closing engagement.”  Hsu said.
Ok maybe he isn’t such an idiot after all.  There is something bugging me about these two formations on approach.  Wheeler thought to himself.  “We have three hours until we make contact I say we adjust formation just before separation and beginning of flight operations for the fighters.”
“Very well Precentor Wheeler.  I shall retire to my quarters for the next hour and I will be back to relieve you so that you may rest as well.”  Hsu stated as he walked off the bridge with his ROM body guards in tow.

Approach Axis Delta
Brownsville System
Terran Hegemony-in-Exile
Federated Commonwealth

Command unit B11 had just received its finale instructions from System Defense Command and was processing the numerous permutations those instructions might illicit from the approaching fleet.  Once it had settled on the enemies most likely course of action, reserving the most dangerous for a preset alternate battle plan that would be continuously updated and relayed to all of the major combatants.  B11 communicated through the fleet datalink with B21 and they shared results.  Both agreed on Option three from the ten results that were similar between the two command units and they began pushing orders to the escorting craft.  Sixty minutes until contact.
Aboard the fleets six M-10 carriers robotic arms retracted fuel lines and computers confirmed what was already known.  The one-hundred-eight fighters were ready to launch.  The launch doors slid silently open and the first Voidseeker was slid into place.  Engines throttling up to for a quick test then back down into standby.  The electromagnetic catapult flung the interceptor into space to be replaced by another twenty-seconds later.  In two minutes, the entire squadron had been launched.  The entire wing of interceptors and strikers were away by three minutes from when the doors opened to when the doors slid shut.  The six carriers maneuvered and began to burn to build up delta-V and maneuver to a holding area where they would await the results of the battle or be called in to refuel, rearm and repair the fighters in space.
The two dozen M-3 drones began to spread out some taking up fleet defense positions to act as the squadron%u2019s aerospace defense screen.  The same was being done for the much larger M-5 Casper%u2019s and their two command ships.  Twelve of the most sadistic war machines ever developed were now baring down on the Word of Blake in order to blot them from existence.
Several thousand kilometers away and approaching on its own intercept course was the remainder of the squadron with its five M-5%u2019s and one M-5C Casper, another twelve M-3%u2019s and three additional M-10 carriers with their complements of fifty-four additional Voirdseekers.  Both groups would make intercept with the Word of Blake fleet within five minutes of each other.
System Defense System Squadron Brownsville-1 is in space and weapons hot.

WoBS Corinth
Brownsville System
Terran Hegemony-in-Exile

“STATUS CHANGE!”  Called out a sensor tech from the pit.
“Report Mr. Weatherby.”  Wheeler demanded.  They were too close to contact now for anything to upset his deployment.
“Precentor,” the man begun looking around to the ROM guards and Blakist Marines.  “Contacts have adjusted formation and they have fighters in the black.  I am detecting over a hundred fifty fighters.”  The tech reported.
“What is the issue Mr. Weatherby?”  Wheeler said disapprovingly.  “We have twice that just from the fleet in space right now.”
“Sir, they have all moved into a precise defensive formation.  I don’t think anyone is flying those ships.  I, I…”  He trailed off thinking this was too insane to be true.
“Out with-it Mr. Weatherby.  We do not have time for this.”  Wheeler said as he stalked over to the man’s station.
“Sir, I think these are drones.”  Weatherby stated.
   “The fighters?”  Wheeler demanded.
“Everything.  All contacts are in precise positions to defend the destroyers which themselves are flying in perfect formation.”  Weatherby revealed.
Wheeler was not convinced.  Turning to the pit he yelled.  “Get me a visual on the screens of the capital ships and one of those fighters!”
Thirty seconds later Wheeler turned white as a ghost.  “My God.  They have Casper’s.”  He said.  “Flash Traffic to the fleet.  We are engaging a full Star League SDS.  Prepare for high speed combat and begin plotting for possible jump points for evacuation.”
Precentor Hsu stood up from his station around the holo-tank and interceded.  “You will do nothing of the sort Precentor Wheeler.  We will continue on and secure Brownsville and its spoils.”
“Do you know what the Casper and the other drones involved in a Hegemony SDS could do?”  Wheeler blurted out.  Hsu just glared at him through glazed eyes.  The man was obviously high.  His ROM guards were eyeing him and the rest of the crew on the Flag Bridge.  Demi-Precentor Kovač was in the Combat Information Center – the ships nerve center during combat actions.  There was a traditional bridge on the Corinth that was used to command the ship in during normal operations and could function as a primary command node.  Though lessons learned with fighting the Terran exiles – the heretics to the Word of Blake – was that you needed to decentralize all command as they would gut a ship quickly or board and seize the three key objectives on any ship.  Command, engineering and weapons.  The loss of those three could cripple a ship.  But if you decentralize command and spread it around to any of the three control nodes the ship could survive a little longer.  Maybe long enough for the marines to defeat a boarding attempt or for a friendly ship to send over marines to conduct a counter boarding operation.
“Precentor Hsu, the Space Defense System doesn’t have to defeat us.  It just needs to cause enough damage to the fleet or the landing force to give forces on the ground an advantage.  We need more warships and pocket warships if we are going to win here.  Otherwise we will lose a lot of our ships for no gain.”  Wheeler pleaded.
Hsu stood his drug fueled ground.  “The Master’s fleet will not be defeated we will defeat the heretics and their mythical demons.  They do not have a real defense system this will be the triumph we need to defeat the Hegemony and expand the Protectorate.”  Wheeler stared at him in shock.  “We will continue to advance Precentor.”  Hsu ordered in a sneer.
“Yes sir.”  Wheeler said exchanging looks with his former flag aide now Demi-Precentor Dominika Kuznetsov.
She saw the panic in his eyes and glanced at his fingers.  “Precentor Wheeler we should try dance party maybe it will break up the drones long enough for the troop ships to make it through to the planet.”
Wheeler nodded.  “Yes Demi Kuznetsov, that sounds like a good idea.”  He turned to Hsu.  “With your permission Precentor?”
“What is this Dance Party?”  Hsu demanded.
“We send out half of our DropShips and fighters ahead of our force and they disrupt the enemy’s formation.”  Wheeler replied with a half-truth.
Hsu rolled his eyes into the back of his head and his eye lids fluttered as he moaned for a moment.  “Yes.”  He hissed.  “Do it.  Destroy these abominations.”  He mumbled.

B11
Brownsville System
Terran Hegemony-in-Exile
Federated Commonwealth

The fleets raced in to clash B11 identified the hostile fleet was changing formations.  It was deploying a significant portion of its screen into a disadvantageous position ahead of the main force.
   Recalculating…Solution identified…Confirm with B21 and B31…Concur…Re-task…B31 intercept…B11 and B21 continue mission…
The third division under B31 adjusted its intercept and slowed its approached by flipping ship and decelerating at three gravities.  It took fifteen minutes to slow to normal space combat maneuvering velocities.  The division again flipped ship but not before unleashing with the aft barracuda and capital laser batteries into the squadrons of DropShips and fighters that were surging out into a vanguard position.  The results were predictable.  The divisions M-3’s began targeting fighters while Interceptors and Strikers swarmed out to engage their counterparts.  The Casper’s targeted a trio of Interdictor pocket warships and gutted them with two drones targeting each before spreading their fire out to the rest of the pocket warships as they maneuvered.
B34 took a pair of White Shark missiles shrugging off the hits to its armor and replied with broadsides into several nearby DropShips.
First and Second Divisions clashed with the main force destroying a Pinto and Carson in short order.  The primary target was the Thera-class supercarrier Corinth.  The carrier had all of First division targeted upon it and began hammering the ship.

WoBS Corinth
Brownsville System
Terran Hegemony-in-Exile

Precentor Wheeler finished strapping himself into his acceleration chair just as the massive carrier began to maneuver wildly to try and throw off shots meant for the Corinth.  The carrier was the primary target of the drones.  And why not without it the fighters couldn’t refuel and rearm.  Although he would have thought they would have gone after the transports first.  Maybe the escorting warships to cut them down as fast as possible.
As he was thinking it three of the drones had singled out the Herald of Justice and it was breaking up, venting atmosphere and debris swarming with drone DropShips, fighters and the three M-5’s assigned to destroy it.
Dance party was a code phrase to a plan designed to save the Battlegroup from the Word of Blake should they feel they had made a mistake.  The only people in on the plan were key officers aboard the ships of the group and the native League born Marines.  Dance party saw mostly Blakist fighters and DropShips sent out into the vanguard, exposed from supporting fighters while the Corinth’s original wings and squadrons remained for close in ‘defense’.
At D+ fifteen minutes marines would be securing all of the critical areas aboard the former League ships.  The hatch to the flag bridge cycled and in stepped two squads of marines in Achileus battle armor.  Fighting was being waged across the Corinth as former League Marines ambushed their Blakist counterparts and known ROM personnel.  In the corridor outside would be a full platoon of Longinus battle armor ready to counter the squads of Blakist battle armor aboard ship.
The ship continued to shake from multiple strikes from the Casper’s that were approaching to unmask their broadsides.  Wheeler turned to his staff communications officer.
“Gary, send to the battlegroup.  Strike the colors.”  He said receiving a nod and a slight grin.  Then Wheeler turned drew his sidearm and raised it to the head of one of his staff members.  The one who he knew was a ROM operative planted on his staff long before they had switched to the Word of Blake.  It was Raul Gronchi who had turned most of the crew to support the Word of Blake and force the staff to abandon the Free World’s League.  “Goodbye Raul, I won’t be missing you.”  He said as he fired into the man’s temple.  The Hawk Eagle Auto-Pistol barked and Rual’s shocked expression remained on his face as he fell into his terminal.
Wheeler quickly turned to a shrieking Hsu who was watching his ROM guards being slaughtered by the battle armored equipped Marines.  He turned to face Wheeler.  “What is the meaning of this Precentor Wheeler!”
“The meaning of this is you are relieved of command Precentor Hsu for incompetence.”  Wheeler spat.  Squeezing the trigger one more time the Hawk Eagle barked again, and Hsu went limp in his acceleration couch.  Wheeler keyed his connection to the Battlegroup.  “All commands execute Anabasis.  This is Wheeler clear.”

Admiral Gonzalez was watching the plot as the Blakist Aegis exploded along with one of their captured Suffren’s.  That was when ever rebel League Warship turned sharply away from the rest of the fleet and burned hard building delta-v in order to change directions.  Gonzalez saw what was happening.
“They are withdrawing.”  He whispered.  “SysOps, have third division shadow that carrier group.  Re-task first and second divisions to destroy the rest of the assault force still on approach.”
“Aye sir.”  The captain in charge of System Operations reported.  The HPG thrummed to life and the pulse sent out.
Gonzalez continued to watch as the Word of Blake fleet fought hard to try and get through his defenses.  That’s when it began to happen.  His Drones were still being overwhelmed.  He was losing Voidseeker and M-3’s rapidly.  The Blakists high numbers of pocket warships were the reason for this.  He was cleaning up the Warships and other ships in the main force.  He was already down two of his M-5’s as the fanatics tried to concentrate fire on the high G maneuvering warships.
That was when it happened.  A flash in the holo-tank showed it first then the call from SysOps.
“Sir, B21 is down we just lost half of our command and control for group 1.”
“Understood.  Set all ships to aggressive.  Time to go after the transports while we still can.  Keep third division on task with screening the force from the carrier group.”  Gonzalez ordered.
The HPG hummed to life and fired another burst out into the black to be received by the surviving drones.  They switched to aggressive mode with the Troop Transports as priorities.  A pair of Blakist destroyers were taken out as the divisions dove through the swarm of fighters, DropShips and Warships.  Another Casper was lost along with a score of fighters and a pair of DropShips.  SysOps ordered third divisions M-10’s to move to support the fighters escorting the third division Casper’s.
This fight was ending quick with the lack of aerospace fighters on the Hegemony side the numbers were quickly dwindling.  The Casper’s were taking Warships and transports with them in droves.
