Battletech: Legends coming to PDF?
« on: 22 November 2021, 13:58:39 »
Sorry if this has been asked before, but as the title says. Also, is there any examples of the artwork of the book? It's a pretty significant outlay for me, so I'd like to know if there is a PDF version coming and what I might be getting for the $$$.

KS backers already got a PDF copy of it so I imagine it will be available soon.

Backers already have the PDF.   So I would imagine it is coming out as a pdf soon. Suprised it isn't yet to be honest.  As to what you might be getting.  It is a page of Art with a page of fluff on each character.  You get a pic of the person on the page with the fluff and a picture of the mech on the other with some partial mech stats

You can see a printer's proof of a 2-page spread from Legends in this Kickstarter update:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cgl/battletech-clan-invasion/posts/3079882

The book is laid out along these lines, it's divided by era, with each era having a short story at the start and then a 2-page spread like this per MechWarrior.  The left page has a portrait and a bio, and the right has art of the mech and a writeup of its notable history.

is there a plan for a PDF version of battletech legends?
I for one prefer nonphysical books.

Aw hell.

We'll work on this today. Stay tuned.

Apparently that had slipped somebody's radar; hopefully it is back on.

Just FYI, I ponied up for the book, have read it twice now, and don't regret it one bit.  Illustrations are awesome and the writing is good.  Value is totally subjective, but definitely get the .pdf when it finally is available.

I have just got the pdf and I really feel the need to say that Takashi's Battlemaster is beautiful.  I wonder whether it swapped out 1 or 2 heat sinks for extra armour?

Takashi’s BattleMaster is indeed awesome.  He is such a traditionalist I’d be surprised if it was anything but the standard 1G.

Well, the page describes how it was upgraded with advanced tech - ER PPC, double heat sinks and more armour.  They just didn't manage to work out the snags in time for th Battle of Luthien.

A straight -3M, most likely.

I don't think so: the -3M has the same armour as the -1G, and the page specifically says that the custom upgrade to Takashi's 'mech has more armour,

A little less heat dissipation than the -3M in exchange for more armour was the original idea.  But while I built out the customs for each entry in the SW chapter, they're not canon builds until they appear in print, and someone else might wind up getting assigned that (if it ever were to happen) and go their own way.  The need to follow the text as it stands and the technology available at the time is going to tie their hands pretty heavily, however.

Would I be right in saying that there's a total of 8 modified 'Mechs with no sheets in the book?

Shin Yodama's Kuroi Kiri (switch ER Large and 2 Medium Pulse out for a PPC and two 2 Mediums)
Janos Marik's Rifleman (Downgrade ACs to 2 and drop Mediums to add armour and heat sinks)
Trenton Marik's Habeus Corpus (Drop Mediums for extra armour and ammo) (Apparently Mariks like Riflemans and dislike Medium Lasers -)
Pavel Ridzik's Thunderbolt (Drop SRM for heat sinks, then FrankenMech the left arm for one from a Quickdraw)
Morgan Kell's Archer (Switch the LRMs to Clantech and get so much ammo)
Cameron St Jamais' Demona (Switch Heavy PPCs for Clantech, add a TC and armour the compact components)
Takashi Kurita's Battlemaster (Upgrade PPC to ER, heat sinks to Double and drop one or two for more armour)
Malvina Hazen's Black Rose (Switch Ultra ACs for PPCs and use all the mass freed up for heat sinks, I suppose)

There also isn't a sheet for Jonah Levin's clantech Atlas, but I'm expecting that in the Recognition Guide.

Demona has a record sheet in Total Chaos, just like Phantom. Also, I believe Black Rose is a Shrike 3. Or the Shrike 3 is an exact copy of Black Rose. I forget which.

Custom that would later become a production variant

According to Legends, Black Rose has 2 ER Mediums, like the Shrike 2, whereas the Shrike 3 in TRO 3145 Clans has 2 ER Larges.

oop. I was thinking of the Gyrfalcon 5 (Aleksandr Hazen's ride aka White Lily) that became a production variant
