Need 80's-90's BT'er Input: Unseen Samurai

Like the LGB-0W Longbow, the SL-25 Samurai's stats were published in Sorenson's Sabres, but no image was included. So, where did you first see the Unseen image attached to the SL-25 Samurai name? Was it a canon product or elsewhere?

Aerotech box cover.  Plus it's not hard to kitbash one from the Sparrowhawk mini.

But the box cover doesn't call it a Samurai. Nor does the name appear in the rulebook. Where is it labeled as a Samurai?

I have to remember to have better reading comprehension first thing in the morning, before replying.  😅  pretty sure for me, it was either off these forums or Sarna.

Back in the day, the art used wasn’t always directly commissioned. You used what you had.

I believe Sorensen Sabers was the first publishing and the conversation probably went something like “hey, we have that cool art from aerotech, did we ever put stats to it?”

I got AeroTech and Sorensen's Sabres at roughly the same time in 1989, so it would have been concurrent to me. "What's this on the cover of AeroTech? Oh, here it is." Also, remember that AeroTech came with stats for six new fighters, but no accompanying images. It would have been easy to assume that the fighter on the cover was just the Eagle or Centurion, or one of the others.

The Longbow confused me more, because I had the Star League Sourcebook for a bit before getting Sorensen's Sabres, and the Longbow has a great pic on the last page of SLSB. That, and the 20 Year Update with it's Guillotine on the last page, before TRO 2750 even came out.

The only place I could think of with an image actually labeled is the Ral Partha Catalog, and that's the mini not artwork. That goes for both the Longbow and Samurai. There may be something in BattleTechnology, another Fan-zine, or a foreign publication, but no bells were ringing for me.

There is no appearance by the Samurai in any magazine that I'm aware of. That RP catalog may be it's first pairing of a visual with the name. I remember seeing it, and even have a couple of them, so it must have been through combining the three sources that I made the connection way back then.

The Longbow does appear in StarDate, Volume 3 number 2, with both art and stats, and that's from March 1987.

I do have a vague memory of reading something like letters to FASA asking about the fighter on the cover of AeroTech, but I couldn't tell you when or where I saw them. Might be worth checking the fan mail sections of MECH or maybe Future Wars.

Like others, I recognize that as the box art for Aerotech.  I don't remember why the name associates to that art, but it does for me.  I want to say something in the box made that connection for me...
