Me too, I wanted to squeeze one of those in an Omni-config, but was told it was a no-no for the RecGuides.
The weapon would be horrible for new players as it was built by mad scientist with loony toons logic but thats what makes me chuckle about it.

Too much MWDA experience fighting with and against 'Mechs with those, I just had to try and squeeze one in. Maybe someday I'll find a place where it fits.

I had one on a config for the Skinwalker in XTRO Republic III, but it got shot down way back then, too. Being told I had no limits and to go wild led me to ask "Is there a limit?" I found it.

That's apples and oranges. The Ryoken III-XP wasn't allowed one because of narrative reasons. The... which one was it again, wantec? The <insert whichever OmniMech> wasn't allowed one because of deliberately restrained scope of the RecGuides.

Either way, none of you got to have any fun. :P

It was the Mad Dog. Although the revised version of that is pretty interesting on its own.

And you're right, I had no fun at all writing entries or making configs ;)

Wish we'd get that Mad Cat Mk IV Hyperlaser configuration/variant (unclear which it is) someday that is mentioned in some places.

Doesn't IO seem to indicate that most if not all the RISC hardware has already gone extinct? I feel like the story kinda breezed past the era of RISC when none of us were looking.
Good news is the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show an immediate latency of 44.6 years. So if you're thirty or over you're laughing. Worst case scenario you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you've forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into my calculator, it makes a happy face.

It got kind of a last gasp when the Republic deployed it against the incoming Wolves during the march towards Terra, and it alternated between giving them an edge and failing spectacularly, causing its user to self-destruct in many cases.  The Wolves crated up what could be salvaged for analysis, but didn't seem inclined to roll the dice quite that hard in combat.
"We have made of New Avalon a towering funeral pyre and wiped the Davion scourge from the universe.  Tikonov, Chesterton and Andurien are ours once more, and the cheers of the Capellan people nearly drown out the gnashing of our foes' teeth as they throw down their weapons in despair.  Now I am made First Lord of the Star League, and all shall bow down to me and pay homa...oooooo! Shiny thing!" - Maximillian Liao, "My Triumph", audio dictation, 3030.  Unpublished.

I'm curious if we will see super weapons or unique Mechs for the last stand that didn't appear in the book.  I've been pawing to see the Rifleman III put into production again and made better than it was. Especially, with the Republic access to Clan technology.

I believe other sources indicated those were still available (eg during the Battle Of Terra) even though the RISC organisation was shut down a decade ago.
XTRO RISC unit would be neat, we never got many RISC equipped units.

Out of the blue, what do you guys think of Kingfisher T? Not a bad mech by any means it is solid, but I can rarely bring myself to pick it over a Prime.

IO’s standard for extinct is a scale of completely gone to exceedingly rare. So deployment on a very limited number of units would not be out of the question

On the other hand it may be another example of ClickyTech’s contribution to canon that is permanently confined to the Dark Age

Eh, A Clantech Rifleman III would just be the Crucible. I would like to see RISC gear variants of Republic 'Mechs, though.

I’d like to see both the Rifleman III and the Rifleman II return to production.  ^-^
Hope springs eternal.

The Kingfisher T’s main advantage over the Prime is psychological: Fear of the head-capper. Some opponents will play differently against a mech that can end a fight in one round. If you know how they’ll react, you can work that into your plan. Unless you know you will be facing swarms of fast mechs or that five hex advantage the large pulse lasers have over the improved heavy is going to factor in, give the T a spin. And even then, the Kingfisher is a rugged machine that can stand up to fire as it brings its shorter ranged battery into play. Six of one, a half-dozen of the other in terms of fun.

Like, an XTRO: HotW?  small production runs used to assault/defend terra, and maybe unique variants used in Canada?

THAT WOULD BE AMAZING. :-)

Anthony just posted the Rifleman IIC sketch, and also said that we wont need to wait too long to see where this design is featured.

Tomorrow?

Somebody posted the RAT entries from Tamar Rising in an earlier thread.

IIRC, Goliath in tomorrow's Rec Guide and Rifleman IIC in the penultimate one..

I wonder what the Doom Courser was/is that was meant to be in RG20

From some of the things said by designers and the fact it was in the Tamar Rising RATs I’m thinking a CHH assault mech.

A courser was a type of medieval warhorse, so the name alone is highly suggestive of a Hell’s Horses quad.  But if someone picked up the old cavalry traditions of the AFFS, it could also be a FedRat design.

"I've fought in... what... a hundred battles, a thousand battles?  It could be a million as far as I know.  I've fought for anybody who offered a decent contract and a couple who didn't.  And the universe is not much different after all that.  I could go on fighting for another hundred years and it would still look the same."
"I'm in mourning for my life."

I feel like the name is just trying way too hard for it to be a fed design.

That kind of fourteen year old edgy screams clan.

The impressive bit on the Doom Courser is the saddle so a Light 'Mech can ride it into battle.  Ideally a Volkh or another lance-equipped 'Mech.
