Hi guys,

If anyone is interested in this kind of thing, my RPing community for Btech is looking for some people who would enjoy making interesting Mercenary contracts the mercenary units can apply for.

Also, we've had good experiences so far with GMs and would be interested in a couple more.  Could be both, meaning you make a contract and then GM for whoever takes that contract.

Era is currently 3051-52, just as the Clan invasion ends and Tukayyid is included.

Please reply or DM if interested/for details.

Here is one person who made an online merc contract generator:
Topic
Generator

Some other ideas:
  • Cadre Duty: your unit has been hired to train the local garrison, so the contract is based on how many experienced personnel you have.  Time to hire a few dozen grizzled sergeants, senior officers, and experienced techs/doctors/admin to get a bigger contract?  Of course, you will get attacked during this contract, but your forces will often be scattered around, so instead of having a nice compact force to fight with, you have to go around rescuing your students and personnel.
  • Diversionary Raid: your merc unit is being hired to strike a garrison force on  target planet, to cover for a political prisoner rescue being performed by another unit.  Hold off the enemy forces for X number of turns, then get out of of contact.  Units with speed 5/8 or higher are recommended.
  • Extraction Raid: a local freight company had its Dropship's Captain and Chief Engineer kidnapped in exchange for ransom.  The pirates have demanded a very high price, and your merc unit is cheaper.  Get in, rescue the two hostages, and get out.  Payment only if the two people are brought back alive and whole.
  • Garrison: pirates have attacked a planet often because the House force was sent to fight the Clans.  The locals have scraped together some cash to hire your force for a 12-month garrison contract.  You get plenty of salvage opportunity, but significant penalties if the pirates kidnap people or steal high-tech stuff (such as water filtration equipment).  Low basic payment, if you want more money take it from the pirates.
  • Objective Raid: a Mr Johnson wants to hire you to destroy 3 hexes of industrial buildings in a specific city on a specific planet in Lyran space.  (behind the scenes: this Mr Johnson works for a Lyran oligarch who owns an insurance company.  The person in building #3 has refused to buy the oligarch's insurance)
  • Observation Raid: your merc force will be brought along on an Objective Raid, and left on-planet for 4 months.  During that time, the PC's unit is expected to spy on the local military and defenses, plus raiding small targets if possible.  After 4 months, the hiring party is supposed to come back and perform another Objective Raid using data from your observations.  Might ant to bring along lots of energy weapons and spare parts/armor.  And food/medicine.  Hope the hirer doesn't leave you all alone on the planet
  • Riot Duty: your merc force is down on its luck, and had to accept this as part of the Garrison contract.  Your job is to disperse the mob, without causing too many casualties.  Do you trust the hirer to provide non-lethal weaponry?
  • Recon Raid: the defenders on planet have been issued some new Mechs, attack the location in order to figure out what their capabilities are.  Shooting them with weapons gives you more 'score'  based on damage done.  Having them open fire gives more score.  If you can disable it and steal it, mucho money but the defenders will want it back, and will have artillery coming in soon.
  • Relief Duty: your force is rescuing another group.  You need to get on-planet ASAP and rendezvous with them.  You will need additional cargo capacity to carry extra medical supplies, food, and repair materials that they need.  GM call if you are there to get the people off-planet, or if you are to defeat the defenders.
  • Security Contract: a corporation is doing its 2-month long gold mining contract on a hostile planet.  It is only for 2 months, but the schedule is known so expect lots of pirates and other House raiders stopping by for this golden opportunity.

One fun stunt for Garrison contracts is to bring along extra personnel to provide extra services.  Hire a few doctors to help train the local medical personnel.  Hire some extra technicians to train the local technical staff.  Bring along a database to help the planet uplift.  Bring along extra civilian gear to help wherever possible (i.e. bring along 5 tons of advanced CPUs massing ~100 grams each, so they can be installed in locally manufactured perscomps massing 3 kg each).

If defending a factory, try to see what the factory produces and if it would be a good idea to buy the stuff direct from the factory.

That's a cool system, thank you.  I was aware of an Excel-based one and this is similar, and very useful for some aspects.

To be more specific, our system calls for a little bit more to be generated.  IE, determining star system(s)/location, providing an employer situation and objectives, and some other minor details.  I'll provide a template shortly to give more scope.

Then, optionally the contract-maker could GM (GameMaster) the ensuing campaign for the mercenary unit that accepts the contract.

A bit too late of an era for me, sorry!  Otherwise, this would be something that would definitely suck me in...  :-\

EDIT: And +1 for AlphaMirage's recommendation!
