Air Assault Infantry

Curious.....is there a way to do Air Assault Infantry? I know you can do Paratroopers (Airborne).

Mechanized VTOL would work, depends on your intended role

Depends on what you mean by "air assault infantry".  Technically you can do it with leg infantry loaded onto transport VTOLs.  Since the definition I found was light infantry supported by transport helicopters.

If you don't want to slow down, jump infantry and jump capable battle armor can leap out and land (terrain depending, don't do this over water) on the underlying hex.

I'm not sure which book, but one has rules for ziplining from choppers.

I think Ziplines is in Tac Ops which is what I think he means by Air Assault v/s Airborne.   IE  101st v/s 82nd US Infantry.

Thank you everyone. I got to thinking about this after reading the Warrior Trilogy (yes oddly enough I knew the story but had never read it) and there being a mention of the AFFS being known for it's non standard Infantry types.

Zip lines will work.  But in BT, I prefer jump troops and/or jump-capable BA jumping from VTOLs of your choice.

In one of the books there is something from the free worlds league that's talks about infantry with rotor wings and fly. One of the tech read outs maybe.

This is what I usually think of.

Paratroopers as were used in like the invasion of Normandy have tended to lose their effectiveness due to the prevalence of radar making it difficult to drop in masses of troops in the modern world, to say nothing of what is available in Battletech.  Not to mention, one usually wants armor dropped along with units, which usually means drop pods for the tanks and Mechs.

Now, spec ops using HALO would also be something to look in to as well, but those are not usually what one would think of using while on the game board.

Which is why I mentioned jump infantry and jump capable battle armor.  With that your troop transports would barely have to slow down.  In universe rather than table top?  If the enemy isn't looking too closely, it would be much harder to figure out where you dropped off the troops, since you weren't stationary or on the ground to give away the drop off.  Plus the extra troop mobility will let them clear the area in a hurry even if the enemy suspects a drop off happened.
