Not asking, but

Just wondering...

TT

I did the 2 KS to support CGL & the industry & to pick up a few mechs I didn't have.
(Of course there was a reason I didn't have them in most cases like the entire JF list from the JF Source Book.

And while it was nice to get some stuff I lacked, I also ended up with even more dupes than I already had.

I mean, my Marauder count was 2 pre CI-KS, then it went to 4, now w/ Merc-KS its 7?  (I think)
I like Marauders but I'm never going to field 7 of them, LOL  (Not counting the 3 Mad-IIs & the Mad-IIC)

My IS Mech Count is around 7 battalions once Merc-KS shows up.
I'm hoping to trim that down to about 4 battalions of IS mechs.

I had to ask myself, Do I "need" 6 Whammies, AKA a Warhammer in EVERY house color?  Or will a Black Widow (Dragoons),  a Whammie-D,  and maybe 1 other house be sufficient?

Do I need a Galaxy of clan mechs, or, will a couple clusters be plenty?    I know, I'm crazy right.

Said the man, while truetanker looks at his smaller army of five hundred IS vehicles and a double Cluster of Clan, mostly IS refit models as very few clan models are created.

Has a Trinary of Kokou / Kokou Xl custom 3d print. Shreck PPC and Burke printed mini. (Thanks SirMortimerBombito)

I own literally two companies of IS and a Binary of Clan mechs, several BattleTroops minis and a full Star of ClanTroops minis.

LOL, So you see the situation :)

What can I say, I'm getting old & thinking maybe I should "downsize" so I don't end up like my parents/grandparents w/ all their overstuffed closets/garages/storage sheds filled with things that haven't been touched in years.

But for the list, I'm just looking for a good faction feel balance to choose from for making Op4
Still waiting on a few of them to arrive from Merc's KS but a lot are already Marik Milz Purple.

Off the top of my head, my total FWL Mech list is something like this, w/ Italics being the stuff I'm dropping.
5 Lances will still be plenty for one of my "enemy" factions :)

Marik Militia:
Wraith, Cicada, Spider, Locust
Guillotine, Ostsol, Icarus-II, Flea
Griffin, Scorpion, Trebuchet, Assassin
Awesome, Goliath, Orion, Hunchback
Archer, Battlemaster, T-Bolt, Warhammer
Hermes-II, Vulcan, Quickdraw, Cicada

Silverhawk Irregulars:  Wolverine, Centurion, Hermes-II, Urbanmech

Orloff Grenadiers:  Orion, Hunchback, Trebuchet, Hermes-II
Free Worlds Guards:  Awesome, Orion, Guillotine, Trebuchet
3041: General Lance Hawkins: The Equalizers
3053: Star Colonel Rexor Kerensky: The Silver Wolves

Look as I’ve stated elsewhere… I take donations lol

But seriously I think what you have works out as a good mix of Marik forces: obviously depends on era.
I personally dislike both the Assassin and the Hermes, I’m not sure offhand what I’d replace them with. My own organization of those lances would probably be different (and I’d try to make it two companies to work out… which would balloon into a full battalion, etc), so I can’t really comment as I’d say put the T-Bolt in the Assault Lance, shuffle the Hunchback to the Urban Lance, put the Flea and Assassin (and Hermes!) in the Light Double Lance, find two Stalkers to pair with the Trebuchet, stick the Wolverine with the Mobile Fire…. And have the most irregular lances left lol

LOL, the 40 ton bracket never gets much love.

The reason I have the Assassin in there is of the 3 of them I own, (Davion, Lyran, Marik),  I decided to keep 1 & the Notable Pilot from TRO:3050 seemed like a good reason to make it the Marik Militia one.

The Hermes-II stays w/ the Irregulars because its my "C3PO" paint scheme project.
I'm designating 4 of my "character" mechs as SHI as "Minor Baronies" since the SHI have no single standard scheme.

I have Marik Milz & Orloff versions as well, but those are going in the sell/trade pile.

Arctic Wolf, Kontio, Phantom, Clint (admittedly the IIC), Carrion Crow, Battle Cobra, Pouncer, Viper…. I see what you mean. Took the Clans (or descendants) to make a good weight class lol

But fair enough: people like what people like.

Isn't the Clint-IIC a SHS/Clan mech?

That said the OG 3025 weren't the best & many seem not to like them.
It was only worse in 3050 when they got some of the less than stellar upgrades to them.

Assassin (Drops SRM for Artemis/Pulse, but not a single weight saving tech like XL/Endo/Ferro that it screams for)
Cicada (Does go to XL but uses it to add an Ultra-5?????)
Clint  (Adds ERPPC & Pulse but kept SHS?!?!?,   did get a later retcon to DHS)
Hermes-II  (Very basic Endo upgrade but still kept Ultra-5 as main gun)
Vulcan  (FINALLY A decent ONE!,  but it could have been better w/ ERLL instead of LPL)
Whitworth  (Drops 2 ML??!?!?!?!?!,  for double Artemis, ugh)

The first generation of most of the 40 ton bracket were very lack luster in both 3025/3050, that said, a few of the variants are quite solid.

A actually like the Assassin as a 4th mech in a fast sprinter lance v/s the 6/9 bugs group.
Cicada had a PPC variant in 3025 & later had the Jumping model added to 3050 that both shine.
Once the Clint got that DHS retcon it was quite solid & I don't mind the 3025 model for a 6/9 bugs/pixie group 4th.
Hermes-II "Dark Shadows/Mercury" & Vulcan-5T that both drop ACs for MLs get turned into solid infighters.
To me the Whit isn't a medium, its a tiny Heavy that I attach to Archer/Crusader/Catapult lances as filler BV & it works.

The Clint IIC “2” has DHS.  Still have to watch the heat when armed with 5 Medium Pulse Lasers.

The Free Worlds League made use of special forces lances of strictly Assassins for reconnaissance during the Succession Wars. It was a very intelligent choice, and something very unusual for a TRO to explicate.

Its 3050 upgrade was indeed horrid. I do not think the mech was designed in a way to survive the Clan invasion with what technology was initially available. The base chassis was simply too optimized to be an excellent recon mech.

The Assassin is easily upgraded with XL or eventually light engine technology. Use the extra tonnage for a better main gun, possibly electronic equipment, and you have a mobile hunter of other scout units. The Capellans went the other way with stealth equipped melee units.  The Leauge decided instead to proceed with Hermes II and Cicadas that had better armor and weapons from either Endo Steel or XL (or both), which follows the Leauge's standard SOP of fast ground movement with a potent main gun on medium units. Personally I think the Leauge had it right.

It acts like a laser version of Disl-A-Damage RAC, the closer you get the harder it hits, plus it's not just unique, it very cool looking.

Run up backside and blast away while still having a lighter ranged weapon, that allows you to still hit harder.

Like having all the Autocannons in a single weapon, or all Gauss family in a shot!

OMG--I just took a second look and that is QUITE impressive.  Very simplistic, weapons to hit fast mechs, adequate armor and high TMM.  Very nice.

It’s enough guns to trigger PSR, it’s damn fast, and it’s dirt cheap BV for a medium in ilclan.

I got reminded of it just days ago.

If so, wow, I like that for a WYSIWYG look on the OG.

Agreed on the XL.
The Lyrans just messed up with that choice of gun for a Scout/Hunter IMO.

Inner Sphere XL engines get a bad rap. The key is what you do with the tonnage.  The League has two of the best examples of both sides of equation.

Good: Wraith
Bad: Goliath 3M. The PTB threw the League a bone and gave us the 3M2 to help fix FASA engineering.

There is worse for sure.

Like the 3050 Jagermech, probably the single worst use of an XL out of that TRO.
Low Armor, lots of ammo, & no speed boost.   Look crosseyed at it & it explodes in nuclear fury.

Almost done with the green part of an Empire Alone Beemer for the Atrean Dragoons.

Those with sharp eyes and encyclopedic knowledge might be tempted to point out that the art shows the markings of the Silver Hawks, as opposed to the Atrean Dragoons.

I refuse to acknowledge this, as taking the colors of a unit 700 years their senior and spraying on a metallic overcoat doesn't make those colors yours, and this insult by provincial johnny-come-latelies will not be forgotten.

So when the next sourcebook comes out how much of the Empire will the Free Worlds have reconquered? Will there be any empire left at that point? Or only a handful of strongholds in a sea of purple? We know that the League declared all out war against the Empire and that the Wolves are clashing with the Capellans. Considering that the majority of the worlds are basically ripe for quick conquests I could assume that the majority of worlds will fall quickly. And the Foxes will most likely only be able to watch as it unfolds since they are part of the entire League.
