in "compensation" for having drawn the short straw in the Artillery Cannon production contract, Coventry Metal Works was also saddled with the Sniper Artillery Cannon.  This was at least an easier adaptation, as CMW produced the famously adaptable Hunchback.  Replacing the AC/20 of the original with a Sniper Artillery Cannon was almost trivial, but allowed for a few tweaks to the design.  The increased heat of the Sniper over the AC/20 finally gave the design engineers the excuse they needed to remove the Small Laser from the head in favor of a heat sink. Various tweaks to the armor protection also crept in, driven by various engineers' "good ideas".  Low executive inerest let these slide by, as not very many models made it off the production line.

Its a nice refit, my only criticism is the changing of the heat sinks and small laser and armor, when the 15t  sniper with 1t at 10 shots would be such a simple swap from a 14t ac20 with 2t at 10 shots.  Changing all the little subsystems make it feel less like a hunchback, plus require more maintenance time performing the gun swap.

Like I said, the tweaks to armor and the removal of the Small Laser were "slid by" higher level review, as corporate didn't really care.  Artillery Cannons never made it into full-rate production, after all.
