Actually the arty cannon with its ability to fire both directly and indirectly fits very well for Daryk's design, since both the early StuGs with the short-barreled 75mm L/24 gun and the late model H with the 105mm howitzer could and did also fire indirectly, and at least the early StuG units of 1940 were trained and organized (in batteries of 6 StuGs plus forward observer halftracks, instead of tank companies of up to 22 tanks) as artillery units. Later it was determined that a handfull of 75mm gun was a negligible contribution as indirect artillery compared to the time spent on dual training, and with the long-barreled L/43 and L/48 guns the later StuGs concentrated on direct fire.
