This thing feels like it'd flip end over end every time it fires.

It's just a TAC, not an actual Thumper...  ;)

This reads like one of those meme light tanks from World of Tanks or War Thunder.

I love it.

Hrrm...given StuGs were supposed to be light artillery support, would a 'mech mortar fit better?

You could fit a 'Mech Mortar on something quite a bit smaller, but the bang is MUCH less...  ^-^

Doesn't really fit. Mortars are indirect fire weapons. StuGs are direct fire.

Direct fire only artillery weapons [as a concept] pretty much died out around that time period. With the only remnant of it being found in tank guns.

Actually the arty cannon with its ability to fire both directly and indirectly fits very well for Daryk's design, since both the early StuGs with the short-barreled 75mm L/24 gun and the late model H with the 105mm howitzer could and did also fire indirectly, and at least the early StuG units of 1940 were trained and organized (in batteries of 6 StuGs plus forward observer halftracks, instead of tank companies of up to 22 tanks) as artillery units. Later it was determined that a handfull of 75mm gun was a negligible contribution as indirect artillery compared to the time spent on dual training, and with the long-barreled L/43 and L/48 guns the later StuGs concentrated on direct fire.
/edit: fixed a typo
