I really don't see a difference between the Nuln oil vs. panel liner technique and they both look a LOT better than the untreated one.  I'd say go with whichever is easier for you... :)

Yeah, that looks like a 3C to me!  What's the donor 'Mech for the parts?

What's funny to me is that the -3C stats are what I envision for the actual Defender.  Those Pom-Pom style AA guns are one gun in RT/Macross.

So finished the Pixiesader and the 3C and 2 more of the Armored Destroid Valks.

The Pixiesader is basically a Dervish, but quad LRM5s a ton of SRM ammo and the lasers removed for a large laser.  Keeps the WYSIWYG look essentially.

I love that emerald green you used for the Warsader, and the Pixiesader looks like it should - a lightly armored, fast fire support 'Mech.  Post stats over in my designs thread, will you?  I want to see how you put the missiles together for the Warsaders.

Reorganized the Devil's Dozen, this time with two War Phoenixes.  I did an experiment with the two battle lances; one is finished with Nuln Oil and the other is finished with Tamiya panel liner.  In person, the ones done in panel liner are a little darker and more defined, in the photos they look pretty similar to me.

Anyway, this is the force I'm taking to set up a house in exile on Astrokaszy, we'll see if I write or game anything out - this is just an excuse to paint miniatures, really.  And mod them into cool things; I personally like the War Phoenix a lot and will be making more when I can get more Phoenix Hawks.

I need to order gun bits from IWM to finish up the disarmed PXHs...

Made another Warsader Trooper type.  Wanted to make a heavier Enforcer, but didn't want to waste the Cataphract lower arm I had.  So stats are more like a reshuffled Cataphract.

Damn that looks good.  What'd you use for the torso guns?

Styrene rod.  Drilled a bit into the torso so it would look like part of it.

Damn that looks good.  What'd you use for the torso guns?

Having just done some spares math for my game on Astrokaszy, I daresay your exiled House is going to have an ammunition problem...

There's small arms manufacturing on Astrokaszy, so the 'Mech mounted Machine Guns are going to stay fed, but I'm not so sure about missiles or AC ammo.  Fortunately most of the 'Mechs are energy heavy...what all did you come up with?

So just a question, which ones look better - the nuln oil Warhammers or the panel liner warhammers?  I've got more control over the latter, and there's more definition (to me) but I'm wondering how well it photographs in everyone else's opinion.

Panel-lined.
Thought I might get a rocket ride when I was a child.          We are the wild youth,                                And through villages of ether
But it was a lie, that I told myself                                          Chasing visions of our futures.                   Oh, my crucifixion comes
When I needed something good.                                         One day we'll reveal the truth,                    Will you sing my hallelujah?
At 17, I had a better dream; now I'm 33, and it isn't me.      That one will die before he gets there.       Will you tell me when it's done?
But I'd think of something better if I could

What I came up with was that the unit barely came out ahead after their first real battle, and that led me to relent on the full-ton lots of MG ammo (something that should have been fixed WAY back in the day, like right after they started allowing half-ton lots).

As far as the minis, I thought both methods produced good results, so go with whichever one is easier for you... :)

Made two more War Phoenixes, I now have a full lance of them in the Devil's Dozen desert camouflage.  Tamiya panel liner instead of Nuln Oil, this time the panel lines really stand out (finally!) - I think I've figured out my lighting arrangements and how much black to apply.

Yeah, I'm a long way from paneling and highlighting and so on, but it turned out acceptable to me.
